The prefix system can be written all kilo, mega, giga, milli, nano, whatever or with the corresponding 10^x. @@dottn No, it's 1024. The International Electronic Commission doesn't have the authority to just 'change' language because it finds something inconvenient. No one actually uses or cares about kibibyte. It's a dead word referring to a concept no one cares about or has any real world application. A computer system is binary (until we finally have quantum) and thus thinking in terms of flat units of 1000^n is utterly pointless. A kilobyte is 1024. That is the accepted standard the world over. What a few 'intellectuals' squirreled away in some basement think is utterly irrelevant. Common societal usage is what defines a word, this is the way it's been for all words, in all languages, since the dawn of the spoken word and it's not changing just cause the IEC doesn't like it.

Kilo is thousand (grams, meters, joules, watts, liters. It applies to anything), mega is million, giga is billion, and so on... milli is a thousandth of something, centi is a hundreth of something, deci or desi is a tenth of it. The reason metric is better is because it isn't arbitrary. The Imperial system uses measurements based on random monarchs silly decisions or ancient body part measurements. The metric system is just 1, 10, 100, 1000, 1000000, 1000000000 etc. Also celsius functions the same way more or less, but focusing on water (most of the planet is water, all weather conditions are directly related to water, boiling food is relative to water, humans are mostly water) as in celsius water freezes below 0° and melts above 0°, and it boils at 100°. It's incredibly handy, which is why most scientists, even in America only use celsius and the metric system... especially weapons manufacturers... nobody says a basic pistol round is "a bit over third of an inch", you say 9mm (nine millimetres)

just an fyi. Many people put "freude schöner Götterfunke"/"Ode to joy" as the EU anthem, but that is not true. The EU has no anthem in that sense, just the melody. But singing with the melody is done on occasion. Usually either the german text by Schiller is used or the english translation, but other translations exist.

The "superior" system. Also known as the "impractical" system for common daily use. meteric is based on abstract numbers. While Imperial is based on practical objects for the common man. Things such as "tablespoons" and "cups" are superior to "30 milliliters" in a kitchen context things like *5 feet" is superior to 1.5 meters for a person who is walking. of course, each system has limits of practicality. you don't measure a wave in any imperial unit, but strictly by metric for accuracy.

Like, for someone that has used both, with familiarity you end up visualizing either meters and feet as easily as the other. More everyday practical units like tablespoons or cups are used in every system, including metric. They're just not part of the definition of the systems and instead use them. A standard metric cup is exactly 250 mL (~8 fl. oz.) and a standard metric teaspoon is exactly 5 mL (~1/6 fl. oz.) for instance. But they're not really that helpful anyway, are they? 250 mL is just as unintuitive as 8 fl. oz, both are 1 cup.
