My Mom's parents, my late Nana and Papa had two boats at Lake Erie and when my Mom was a teen she would go up to Cedar Point to meet her friends and ride all the rides and, of course eat the yummy food, i.e., famous fries, waffles, etc. It was always a fun, safe, and clean park.

Thanks for the memories....it would be tame by kids standards today but 50 years ago I was a kid riding these rides with my brother.....this was utopia for our generation and no summer vacation was complete if our folks didn't take us here. If money prohibited it ruined the year. What a wonderful place. So many children's impressions have to be left behind...all those happy faces and fond memories surely bless CP to this day. I loved the waffles with ice cream!!!

Thank you for sharing your memories here. I'm very sad to see Space Spiral go as well. I've been riding it since I was a kid. It's hard to imagine seeing the CP skyline without it. And we'll continue to changes as the years pass.

I remember swimming at the Lake Erie beach they had open back in the 70's. I wonder why they took it out? That was a big deal! Loved the slide and earthquake and the fun house. Cedar Point was and is a great park. Thnks for upldg!!

To celebrate my Nana and Papa's lives my mother and I went to Cedar Point on July 16, 2012. It was a nice way of remembering them. We wondered way the Space Spiral wasn't lit up at night and the windows were dirty when we rode it. Now we all know why. The Space Spiral is a historic part of the park (Midway) and you could see the park. It was a safe ride for all to enjoy. I pray Cedar Point and Cedar Fair Entertainment decides to keep it and relocate it to another location in the park.

I can't believe CP is going to remove the Space Spiral aka The Needle for a new coaster. It's a sad time. Recentally, My Nana passed and she loved it along with the Giant Wheel, etc. My Papa passed away in 2005, and he loved to ride all the coasters. His favorite was The Blue Streak. There's a petition of Facebook of people trying to save the Space Spiral or at least relocate it somewhere in the park. I breaks my heart. These were fun family memories. To loose my Nana and the Spiral is too much

Blue Streak is the original name.

Prior & Church (P&C)-designed roller coasters were known as being turbulent and wild rides, though not unsafe. I suspect two main factors went into the destruction of most P&C coasters; 1.) The rides were wild, designed to have strong negative & lateral forces. Many people stay away from extremely thrilling rides & coasters. 2.) Because of their wild nature and the weight of the magnificent, well-built trains, P&C coasters were difficult and costly to maintain. More above...

They should build Cyclone back as an RMC Hybrid Coaster. If they build it with today's standards I believe it would be safe.

Or a GCI replica. Any would just be as good.

Was the Blue Streak renamed or was that the original name of the coaster?

The Cyclone was a creation of Prior & Church, who were known for extremely turbulent and thrilling coasters, yet they rode the track very smoothly due to the heavy, articulated single-seat trailered cars. For these men to claim they Cyclone was extremely rough and bruising is probably not the most accurate description of this Prior & Church masterpiece. If Cyclone were still operating it would probably rank among the world's 10 most thrilling wood coasters.

I suspect one, or both of the below reasons is why Cedar Point's Cyclone was torn down. There could be other reasons. Somebody with more Cedar Point knowledge than me might be able to chime in here and teach us something. There is only one Prior & Church coaster left in the world, the restored, 1923 Giant Dipper at Mission Beach, San Diego. It's a small coaster with (unfortunately) modern trains, but is fun & thrilling & certainly gives a taste of a P&C coaster. No straight track on a P&C!

Too much Moderation is not cool. You need old school and new school mixed. Could you imagine if the government made millions of classic car owners turn in their cars and they crush them? The Fun House was really cool. They don't even have a real haunted house anymore, a all year one not Halloween crap

Do you know why it was demolished?

what a joke, considering they just added a giant new roller coaster: Gatekeeper. Not to mention Cedar Point does not completely rely on Ohioans for business, but rather all over the country and world for that matter.
