The combo is entirely non-deterministic. You can not specify or shortcut how long it would take, even if it is mathematically certain to end up in that state eventually. At competitive REL, After the 2nd time of not advancing the gamestate a judge could come by and immediately stop the action, forcing them to do something else. He would have to draw any Titan consistently to keep the loop, which is never guaranteed with the Dredging from Dakmor Salvage.

The Gitrog Monster is probably the hardest combo in the game rn to interact with. You pretty much have to run graveyard hate or in the 2nd game’s case know exactly what to counter in the right moment.

I'm back! After watching this video, i went back to your first video and watched all of them in order. It only took me 4 months, haha. Love seeing the progress you all have made. The quality of the videos have improved, and I love to see how dedicated you are to the community and tailoring your content to what they want. Also, I caught one more tiny rules thing on this one. Should have drawn when najeela ETBd due to selvala.

@@KingdomsTV honestly, favorite video is this one so far. I still have to watch every video you've made since so I'm sure there are even better ones out there. Gitrog has such complicated lines, and i think they were actually explained pretty elegantly in this game. The game with pheldagryf also sticks out in my brain.

just a heads up Tangle Wire doesn't get sac'd when the last counter is removed but when you can't remove more counters from it. it didn't matter at all at this game but it might matter for Dockside

That’s incorrect, permanents with fading sacrifice themselves once the last fading coiner is removed.

@@bobeverbirch4020 nope. you might be confusing Fading with Vanishing. a permanent with Vanishing gets sacced when last counter is removed a permanent with Fading gets sacced when you can't remove any more counters from it. check the rulings c:

Gitrog misplayed the crop rotation loop. When you sac gaea’s cradle for crop rotation it generates a draw trigger that you have to resolve before you search.

Ya I noticed that and I wasn't sure why, but I found out after I finished the video. The sequence was 60 frames per second but the video of me was filmed in 30 frames per second. It should be fixed for next time.

I agree, I enjoy playing non partner cedh. I feel like its closer to a regular edh deck that way where your commander really is important to the deck strategy and not just a mana sync or draw card engine.

I love bouncing Tangle Wire with Teleportation Circle in my Enchantment/Token/Pillowfort deck. Nothing like a Tangle Wire that keeps coming back with 8 counters every turn because of Doubling Season.

Might want to ask a judge on that, fading comes into play with counters. Doubling season would work with proliferate, that does put counters on the wire.

Gitrog is one of the most fun decks to play! You can also loop lotus Petal at sorcery speed to get infinite colored mana. Makes it less confusing for some. If you really wanna confuse people do deathrite Shaman loops

I should have shown this better, but you use Urzas ability to tap it to get a blue instead of its own ability that requires you to tap it. Urza can tap any artifact you control to get a Blue mana. He's busted.

Lotus Petal is sacrificed…so I don’t think you can bounce it. However, you can get the same effect by tapping the Mana Crypt for either 2 Colorless or 1 Blue if you have Urza on the board.

My favorite degenerate evil combo is in Selesnya anyway and it's pretty simple: Elesh Norn + Living Plane. As a state based action all your opponent's lands are dead before they can even tap them for mana, including indestructible lands. And any new land that gets played is immediately annihilated. Not even Crucible of Worlds can save you now! Muahahahaha! Finding a way to buff them +2/+2 or more would get around this problem, or using 0 mana artifacts to ramp up into things without lands, assuming there's no Null Rod or Karn the Great Creator... I have a Captain Sisay Stax deck that revolves around getting off this combo and can also tutor up other degenerate legendaries like Hokori or Linvala Keeper of Silence and such

I love the frog. I also run urza polymorph. Aka the tide pod challenge. You explained the combo weird. Also lotus petal does the same and creates both Mana. I studied that combo for days. It's crazy. I also run raths edge combo too.

@@KingdomsTV it is hard to explain. But the part where he got infinite Mana was confusing. Discard a land then discard kozilik. Shuffle then use dakmor salvage to create three draw triggers. With three draw triggers sacrifice the lotus petal then repeat till you have infinite Mana of both colors. I did enjoy the way he got to gitrog and the discard outlet. That's what makes frog crazy. Wins out of nowhere and it's hard to interact with. He piloted the deck well. Kudos.

Najeela in game 2 could be one turn quicker throughout the game and would have threatened a win on turn 5 (maybe even turn 4 depending on what you had in your hand). On turn two, use the city of brass to play Carpet of Flowers, and then in the second main play Najeela with the help of Carpet of Flowers. In the following turn, you would have had additional mana which would allow you to play the Elvish Mystic and get an activation of Najeela the following turn. It would have given you 4 additional warriors, which meant you could have searched and played Eldritch Evolution/Neoform and put Derevi into play on turn 5 and gotten infinite activations.

I think cedh would be hard. We did a couple episodes with $25 edh though if you want to check those out. We made them the best we could with everything under $25.

I'm just curious why did the deflecting swat goes to the selvala instead of the urza? The urza player already drew so many cards from the rhystic and the selvala is almost juice out (at that point of time) Overall is quite entertaining too 👍🏻

According to the rules on Gatherer: "Mindblade Render’s ability triggers only once, regardless of how many opponents were dealt damage, how much damage they were dealt, or how many Warriors dealt damage." It could be dangerous for a Najeela player if it hit with every warrior. >

shortcutting gitrog is so weird to me since we have this guy at our locals who basically forces us to play out combo. weirdly enough i stopped playing gitrog and started playing selvala

That's my Klothys deck. It aims to land a few mana or card producing permanents and then resolve an Obliterate-like effect. Apocalypse is used to wipe everything after floating mana for Klothys, or exiling a Gaea's Will or Rousing Refrain.

Anyone else not think Gitrog is that complicated? It's discard+dredge with a draw trigger and library shuffles.

The principles aren't complicated but actually completing them are. You really can't short cut in the same way you can with a real infinte combo. At least thats how I've seen it.

I do understand how the "every time I should sac a land to crop rotation I respond by discarding Ulamog" loop works, but I don't understand how, before that, the Gitrog player managed to have enough draw trigger to draw their whole deck. I kinda have the same deck (with torment of hailfire instead of finale) but that part of the loop is too convoluted for me so I generally cant explain it. Could you ?

@@thedoctor1471 when Gitrog and a discard outlet are in play, you discard Dakmor. Discarding Dakmor triggers Gitrog's ability, which gets replaced with the dredge 2 on Dakmor. If you mill a land, you get an extra draw trigger, then keep repeating until you draw your deck. Basically, once his board was setup, they did a technically not legal shortcut, but one that is generally accepted by cEDH groups as fine, to draw his deck instead of doing the dredge lines

@@thedoctor1471 because the loop isn't deterministic. You never know how many times you have to reshuffle your library before you are going to be able to draw your deck. This isn't usually a problem as almost every cEDH table will be fine with the illegal shortcut because they understand at the bare minimum that Gitrog+discard outlet+Dakmor=you eventually draw your library. Even as a Gitrog pilot, I don't fully understand the exact reason why different milling states can't be avoided by simply discarding more lands to draw more of the deck, but presumably the loop you get stuck in is no lands in hand, dredge 2, and always hit a Titan /nonland every time. In theory, if this happens, you would never be able to draw your deck as you will never accumulate draw triggers

Cedh is meant to be played at the highest levels and that’s why proxies are encouraged in the format. We do have some budget games that we do in regular edh that you can check out.

@@KingdomsTV cedh is just really boring to watch. It just comes down to certain win cons like thassas oracle and 2 card infinite combos. I think your channel would grow much faster if you focused more on less competitive stuff. It's what 90% of edh players play.

@@Zeromus5555 I enjoy all levels of edh and I think there is value in all of it. Having said that our cedh videos get the most views. So I was tempted to do the opposite of what you suggest, but I enjoy regular edh too much. :)

Gitrog may be my least favorite commander in Magic, and this video just reassures me, I will never build him in my lifetime not because I don’t understand him but I think his entire play is just dumb

I can see where you are coming from. Although I personally will most likely not play it as a commander too I think it’s cool that the combo is even possible in the game.
