Ceiling Fan Downrod Length Makes a Huge Difference 

Yeah, I didn't see a sloped ceiling guide. The twirly thing idea just came to me to show the lack of breeze. Then, of course, I had to youtube it to figure out how to make one.

Glad you liked it! I don't remember where I learned how to make the spinner... probably a 30 year old memory from when the kids were little.

That might be a requirement...I didn't check the building code. There's probably a few things around my house that are not compliant. I expect tall gesticulators will only make that mistake once, LOL!

You hire a handyman or licensed contractor to do it if you can't figure it out on your own. I welded my own rod and bolted it onto the roof joists, but I also have all the equipment and experience to do so. If you're a layman and don't have the tools, don't attempt it because if you mess something up, that fan can fall off, hurt someone, cause a fire, or all of the above.

I looked for the instructions, but came up empty. Those fans match real nice, and we're so far pleased with the purchase, but I'm afraid I can't come up with the item number for you.

I attached the string lights to the roof beams with nylon string, mostly. I just wrapped the string around the roof beam and around the string lights' wire. On the corners, I used zip ties.

My fans are pretty stable. Fans often wobble when the fan blades are not equal in weight, or the fan blades are not all in the same plane. I would first get a fan balancing kit and follow those instructions, which detail how to place a test weight on different blades. If you find smoother operation, you add a permanent stick-on weight. Before you get the kit, you might just swap pairs of blades, swapping the position of two blades opposite of each other. Good luck in smoothing things out!

That was the first thing I checked. I installed both fans and it was hot outside. I was going to reward my installation efforts by sitting down under the fans and enjoying the breeze, but I could barely feel anything. I turned them off, looked at the way the blades were pitched and when I started the fans again, the trailing edge was down... pushing air down. I expect that there's aliasing due to the frame rate of the video that's causing misinterpreting the direction of rotation. There probably are people in the world that would either not understand ceiling fan direction or would mess with people by falsifying results, and I'm just SGOTI and could be one of those people. You only have my claim that I'm not either type.

@@sengsational The original question was referring to whether or not the ROTATION of both fans in the video were indeed spinning in the exact same direction. During the summer, looking up at the fan from the ground, the fan should be spinning counterclockwise. It's hard to discern from the video which direction your fans are spinning. He was not referring to whether or not you had the blades upside down, though that also is a possibility. Lower you can hang the fan from the ceiling, the better.

@@komoru Yes, the lower the better for air flow, but my tall friends who like to come over, stand, and gesticulate with their arms above their heads adds another dimension to the problem. A compromise is required, and I think I found it.

@@lcassidy3607 The structure seems very solid to me; I never worried about the capacity to bear the weight of the fans. I'm not sure what rain has to do with it, unless there's a concern that water will blow in sideways and get on the fans. So far, these fans are continuing to work just fine.

I agree. Because the paper fan changes the direction as well, when moved from one fan to another.

Yes, the fan is hard wired (no switch to the power). The fan comes with a remote control to turn it on and off. This makes installation much simpler.

Yeah, it was surprising to me. I was relieved that it worked. Dropping another 6 inches would have put the blades a little to low for tall people who gesticulate, hehe!
