Ceiling Repair: Under $30. Really simple and affordable (stomp) textured ceiling repair using tools you already have around the house and a couple of additional items including a stomp brush and some lightweight joint compound (I used ultra lightweight joint compound that I already had around the shop).
I’ll show you how to match stomp texture after a drywall repair step by step, or stomp texture also known as crows foot texture. I’ll show you the tools tips tricks techniques needed to match a stomp texture and how to apply a stomp texture. Additionally, I will show you how to match stomp texture after drywall repair, match stomp texture, and match crows foot texture.
This repair easily comes in around or under $30 depending on how many of tools and material you need purchase. You can save money by only using the drywall knife (putty knife) to spread the compound and skip buying a roller and frame. Also, the link for the joint compound below is for a 5 gallon bucket, because that is exactly the product I used. However, for a small repair that is way to much and you can get by with less compound (perhaps the kind you mix with water…and it is cheaper).
I have included links to the items on Amazon as well (except the joint compound) in case you would rather purchase online instead of in store. These are not the exact items I used, but they are comparable.

I am so happy that these videos are able to help! You know what? Even if you don't do this repair yourself, you can at least know what it entails so you don't get cheated in the event you do need to hire a professional. Thanks for commenting and being a part of the community!!

Thank you for the guide on how to fix this, my husband accidentally stepped through our ceiling in the kitchen this summer. None of the repairman I called either wouldn't give me a call back or were all to busy, so I will attempt to fix this myself this weekend. I have done my share of drywall over the years but not a textured ceiling, with this great video I now feel confident. Thank you!

Awesome! I understand the frustration of hiring a professional. Most of the reason I started this channel and my previous business was because of the lack of confidence in either “professionals/handymen”. You can do this and Please let me know how it turns out. Just keep in mind, There are many different texture (stomp) brushes out there...look at the size of the existing pattern and then look for a stomp brush that matches as close as possible.

@@TonyCollumtheHOWTOHERO That is the hardest part I know I haven't been able to nail it down what they used. I am very handy and not afraid of power tools, but wasn't wanting to work with this as it's over my head...literally! lol What I will do is take a picture and try take it to the hardware store and see if they know which tool they used. Thank you for your reply.

Samantha Aimee I’m not a big fan of textured ceilings, but when all you need is a small repair, it sure is nice to be able to match the look. Thanks for the super positive comment on the channel name.

Mate this is great stuff. I’m always looking for ways to save cash and actually experience the satisfaction of fixing something around the house myself. Especially given how tough it is to find good and reliable tradies these days. Really appreciate this content. The wife will make sure the car is fuelled up and ready to drive me to the emergency room just in case! Haha! All the best!

I am glad you enjoyed the video! Yes, I have learned many different skills for the same reason you mentioned...it really is difficult to find good skilled workers. I don't think you will need any emergency room visits, but better safe than sorry. Thanks for watching and being a part of the community!

Did you have to prime the Sheetrock first? Is there a risk of it peeling off later? Great video.
@TonyCollumtheHOWTOHERO
@TonyCollumtheHOWTOHERO 5 лет назад
Curt and Care Family Vlog very good point. It never hurts to prime! This situation is somewhat unique in that the compound weakened over time due to excess moisture from the exhaust bath fan. It was not enough moisture to do any significant damage only loosen the compound. I don’t foresee it coming off in the future either. It was a thin coat and I’ve fixed the moisture issue. Fingers crossed 🤞

Did you thin the joint compound down with any water?
@TonyCollumtheHOWTOHERO
@TonyCollumtheHOWTOHERO 4 года назад
I didn’t on this particular job.. I had a hard edge (from the original mud) that I wanted to hide so I left it thicker. But, thinning it with water does make it easier to work with and leaves a nice texture.

I’m sorry but.... that’s gonna look terrible. Better to call a pro on this one, good texture match can fool the home inspectors
@TonyCollumtheHOWTOHERO
@TonyCollumtheHOWTOHERO 4 года назад
I’ve watched many pros do this the same way...not saying it’s the only way, but it is literally putting mud on a flat surface and stippling. Nothing to hide here. The sheetrock was not damaged and there was nothing to “fool” anyone in the beginning. It only needed to have the loose material removed and new put back on.
