Great video. My first visit to Oulton was for the 1969 Gold Cup when Graham Hill drove a Formula 2 Lotus entered by Winkleman racing. I well remember seeing him powersliding that car through Lodge. Formula 5000 was favourite of mine and thrilling to watch from the outside of Old Hall as the cars thundered round. Happy days!
I live within earshot (almost) and cannot recommend it enough. The facilities are good (and they have been upgrading them), prices are reasonable (especially for smaller events), get there early and you can almost park anywhere, take a picnic and some folding chairs and it is fantastic day out. Then walk over to paddock, walk amongst the cars, talk to the drivers, mechanics etc; no where else will you get this close to the cars and the action. The Gold Cup is a great event with loads to see with the auction and car clubs, but if you like racing and cars the smaller events are great value and welcome your support. It never feels over crowded, staff are friendly it is quite frankly a proper gem. I went once out of curiosity and was hooked and have been going ever since.
My abiding memory of the Gold Cup was seeing John Surtees wrestle a Ferrari 246 front engined F1 car from 1960 round the circuit, often sideways but very much in control and winning the Gold Cup race. Surtees was probably 60 or so and had never driven these difficult cars in period but he really ragged it and put on a show for the spectators. Historic was the way to go. I also remember Aurora F1 with names such as Tuff Noodle, Guy Edwards, Davina Galica , all driving 2 or 3 year old F1 cars with no skirts. Heady days.

WHY has there to be, this awful awful , music being played, it should be the sound of engines. It is motor racing, being watched, NOT a rotten music score, completely spoiling the video, am I the only one, thinking this. Thanks for ruining a good show. From, Harry Currell, New Zealand. PS, Have been to Oulton Park, many times, since about 1953, my mate and I , cycled there from Whitley Bay, a few times, and stayed with my Aunt, Chester Road, Northwitch.
