the french equivalent of "like" (usage wise) is "genre". theyll even use it the same way ("i was like..." = "j'étais là genre....") other filler words/hesitation words are "fin" "bon" "ben" "allez", not sure which one brooke was hearing but they are used VERY often

Thank you for at least addressing what's happening, a lot of the podcasts I watch were talking about it and although it is very important to tackle the issue head on, it is also not good for our mental health to 100% consume ourselves with the awful news. This definitely offered a break and an escape for me.

saying ‘like’ a lot is using it as a discourse marker! its basically a space filler so you can think of what to say next. but like also has a ton of other linguistics functions (like the verb, introducing quotations, approximating, etc.) so it gets used a lot and people tend to really notice it often

Ayo french person here, i think the word you’re thinking of that young french ppl sprinkle everywhere like « like » is « genre ». It’s a cursed word because you can’t fucking stop saying it and it’s just a filler (like... like)
