It also didn't help that the music business didn't love them that much, either. Motown prided itself on being this one big family, but it was all about business. Some of the artists experienced some real trauma that "the family" didn't care about. Paul Williams had sickle cell. Who cared? Flo Ballard was raped as a teen at knifepoint. Who cared?

I liked Al's voice and you can hear him really well on many songs from that very first album. Oddly enough, there's a live version of "I Want A Love I Can See" from "Recorded Live The Motortown Revue (Vol. 2)" where him and Paul go back and forth towards the end and I think their voices complement each other really well. Drugs and alcohol man, the destroyers of lives.

@@Driveright698 No this guy got it confused (No disrespect). Al didn't want to go back out and perform while Paul was excited to go out again. Paul was a natural performer. Al got fired for his behavior and not being a team player. Otis final straw with him is when Paul was singing lead he led the other Temptations into a choreography breakdown and Al didn't join in. He told Otis that they are the "pretty boys" and that "Eddie and Paul should do the work (choreography) while you, me and Melvin stand their and sing". Otis let him go after that.

@@Theredeyedjedi Paul did not want to go out! In fact, Al was the only one who really wanted to go back out, the others would have, but Paul was adamant he wasn’t. The movie is fabricated by people who were not there, Otis had nothing to do with the movie, nor has he ever even seen it.

I read Otis William's book and as you stated it was a really good book! In the movie of the Temptations it portrayed that Paul wanted to go back out on stage but Al kept saying he was tired when he and Paul began arguing! That's when Al hit Paul across the head with the bottle, portraying Al as lazy and a trouble maker.
@TheGhettoSnobSeries

Let’s get this understood.In late 1963 in October the tempts appeared at a gig(chappys lounge)and the crowd had them going for it,so the late great David Ruffin got on stage and caused a sensation splits,throwing microphone and as Otis says singing like a man possessed.On the other hand,Al bryant noticed Ruffin onstage and thought it was a slap in the face so he started to crank his moves 2 and 3 encore.After the 3 Paul Williams said let’s go because he didn’t want to keep doing the same thing and al wanted to stay on stage because of the crowd going wild and to finish what he precieved as a two man faceoff.That led to al angrerly getting ignored by Paul then hit him with a beer bottle.
@xtreskiiii
@xtreskiiii 3 года назад
So to sum it up the movie is false al wanted to go back because he loved the adulation but Paul didn’t because as the lead singer at the time,was tired and didn’t want to keep doing the same thing.

So I made a statement a month ago about wanting to see something on Patti Austin. I know she is not dead, but I don't feel that she is celebrated enough. If anyone remember a while back he did something on Russell and Ronald Neal. Russell was in the group Hi Five and murdered his longtime girlfriend. Ronald his younger brother murdered his wife. I get that he was doing a piece on the murders of their partners, but the fact remains they themselves are still alive and kicking serving life in prison. I enjoy the way he researches everything and is very unbiased in what he put out there. I would not only like to see Patti Austin but Cameo and Ready for the World also. He may not do them because they are, at least some, still alive. That do not deflect from me wanting to see him cover it. Thank you to everyone who let me know Patti Duke is not dead it's much appreciated

For some reason in the temptations movie, they showed that Elbridge Bryant was tired of singing and did not want to go back out on stage,but Paul Williams and the rest of the three members wanted to go back out and sing.

Otis is a hater. If he was at one time best friends with Al; he should have mentioned more about him in his book on a positive note. That's just hateful to at least mention how bad he looked. The man was on the verge of death.

It wasn't the fact that they didn't Love themselves, it was that they had serious issues. All of them Migrated to Detroit from Jim Crow South Otis from Texas Ruffin from Mississippi Edwards, Kendricks, Franklin and Williams were from Alabama. The video just said that Bryant was from Georgia. They had rough upbringings, I. do remember. reading in Otis' book. that he was a stepchild and didn't meet his real Pops until he was grown and his Pops was on his deathbed. Ruffin's main issue was his trust of women that probably got something to do with the fact that his Moms was a prostitute Look at his unsung. Kendricks was a hothead probably got something to do with the fact that he was stab at a game when he was a teenager when he was still living in Bombingham. Paul Williams had a big family and just trying to make ends meet. What I remember. from Kendricks' Unsung., the reason he started drinking because he was diagnosed with Sickle Cell.
