In this Celestion A type shootout video we see how the speaker in question holds up again 21 other speakers in a direct shootout, and also how it sounds mixed with these speakers too.
The A type was introduced in to the Celestion range back in around 2015/16 to cater a little more for American voiced amps.
The speakers are Celestion Alnico Blue, Vintage 30, Century Vintage, G12-65 (Heritage not classic series), Alnico Cream, V type, H heritage 55Hz, Classic Lead 80, Alnico Gold, H heritage 75Hz, H creamback 75, G12H Redback, M creamback 65, H anniversary, M heritage, G12T-75, Neo Creamback, Alnico Ruby, Mystery Speaker, A Type, WGS Invader 50
If you have any qxperience of the A type then please let us know... if there is anything you want to hear or other comparisons then please let us know.

Very good comparison.

Thanks for another great video! 2 thoughts. It would have been nice to have the A Type by itself just before the paired examples to calibrate to its tone first. Having these isolated 1x12 tracks of all these different speaker types, it would be cool if you had a web app where you could combine any of the speakers. You could listen to each speaker individually or in combination with 1 or more other speaker all playing the same track. Kind of a build your own shootout. Would help people customize to their own tastes.

Thanks mate. We will be re-recording everything soon and I think there's going to be mostly 8ohm speakers there.

I thought it mixed well with the greenback too.

I love the combination of V30 and A-Type that I have in my Redseven 4x12 cab. It sounds amazing!

I am doing a similar combo with a v-type with a-type. Does the v30 add honk? I am running a super crush 100 and it has some harsher mids.
@FabrizioCalderara76
@FabrizioCalderara76 Год назад
@@nickschaffner250 the A-Type has more midrange than the V30 and they sound perfect if combined together. I am not a fan of the V-Type, it sounds too scooped to my ears.

Thanks, that is very kind of you. We have a neo speaker shootout on the way... just Celestions but we are planning another with some different brands too.

Great comparison! Just got a used A-type in my 4x12. I have with it an -87 T75, a -73 pulsonic 75hz greenback and a g12h 30th anniversary. It's a great tight sounding blend live and I'm eager to start recording and mixing the speakers!
@ZillaCabs

I'm glad you like it. Which one of those speakers is your favourite? I;ve got to say the pulsonic greenbacks are a personal favourite of mine.

@@ZillaCabs i'm really fond of the T75s that came with the cab. The older ones aren't as trebley as these modern ones, and it gets that 80's tone to a tee. But the greenback is a classic for a reason. It adds the right mids that are missing in the T75. If I had to choose one, I'd go with the T75 because, it's the sound that I'm used to for my tone. But if you're asking which one's best sounding it's the greenback.

I don't know why but there is something about the A type which I absolutely love.. Really appreciate this mate, I just bought 2 A types and want to blend them with 2 Marshal G12 Heritage Celestion's and hope I know what i'm doing =)

Wow I’m in shock! How close the G1265 is to the A type! Almost identical, the 65 have a hair of extra mids and more tighter highs and lows but they’re so close!
@ZillaCabs
@ZillaCabs 2 года назад
I know what you mean but I think the G12-65 didn't record as well as some of the other speakers. I feel the restrictions of recording in this way leant quite heavily on the G12-65. I think the differences were more noticeable in the room.

My favorites were V Type, Gold and M65. Those seemed the most balanced and complimentary.

v type has a weird mid range thing to me. i think a type is better when mixing with other instruments. and other speakers since it mostly trebly end... and doesn't have any weird scoopy spikes like others do.

Interesting - when set against the sound of the A-type as a reference point, I start to perceive a 'fizziness' in certain speakers that I use frequently and would never normally describe as 'fizzy'. Given that I use these other speakers frequently (G12H anniversary, H creamback, M greenback, Alnico blue, out of the ones that are in this comparison!), I suspect that this is just my mind playing tricks on me and I actually would probably find that for my tastes the A-type's top end is a bit too rolled off. Will probably stick with Jensens with my fender type amps.
@ZillaCabs
@ZillaCabs 3 года назад
When you are comparing speaker like this you can start to hear them differently but often it is aspects such as fizzyness that can be useful in a mix. The A type to me is a relatively flat sounding speaker.... not is flat response but doesn;t have a massive amount of character like some of the others. Thanks for the great comment.
