He is literally one of the BEST top 2 session guys in the bizz! Between him and Tim, yeah, good frigging luck deciding that spot of number 1 or 2. Lmao
I have them in a 2x12 and am replacing with a vintage 30 and g12h30. The original v types have a hair to them that does not appeal to me. I never realized how much I didn't enjoy them until I heard my JJ Jr head with what I would consider better speakers.
Hey Pete! I’m excited about this speaker, thank you for the demo! Also, your composition skills are head spinning, really great chords and turns in the harmony. Kudos!
Just finished building a 1x12 cabinet with one of these, in a 16" x 16" x 24" solid pine / closed back / bass reflex design. I had the exterior sprayed with Line-X truck bed finish, and the entire thing weighs about 20 lbs. 😊 With my H&K Tube Meister 18 plugged into it, it has a fantastic full-sounding tone, in an easy-on-the-back package. The Neo-V is easily one of the warmest sounding neodymium speakers I know of, and not thin sounding like some earlier generation neo speakers were.
Just commented elsewhere regarding swapping my Vintage 30s in my Mesa Recto combo and sealed Recto cab with Celestion G-12 Neo speakers and have never looked back. They do sound a little tighter, but better than most others…. And the Neo magnet is almost seven pounds lighter per speaker! Carrying your shit in and out of venues is enough of a drag, switching to SKB style cases, Mono bags, and knocking 14 pounds out of the guitar amp (while still having the same sound)…. Yes Thank You!!! Glad to hear others are having the same experience with these speakers. ☮️❤️🎶
I have one and have in a small open back pine cabinet which weighs a lot less than a guitar in hardshell case. LOL I run my 50 watt Plexi into it. My rig is both compact and reasonably light but zero compromise on tone in my 3 piece Power Trio.
Yeah, sounds rather nice and likely versatile for many tones, overdrives. Seeing that I'm building a stereo 20 watt Plexi into a Twin Reverb size cabinet, at 67 years old I'll probably appreciate the weight savings. There is a V30 in my gigging single channel 20 watt Plexi and I do like how they work in the genres and style I play but, these NEO V's seem worth giving a shot. Nice Pete, thanks. - Phil Donovan
Well I did not expect this... Interesting that they would make the V-Type their next Neo speaker, but it also kind of makes sense. Less pressure of actually matching the V30 in Neo version if you're not naming it V30. Wondering if this was asked by an OEM in hopes of making lighter combos, seeing how popular the V-Type is with OEMs.
I have a Celestion Neo Vintage in my Blackstar HT5MKII and it sounds so good and huge while being light to carry to jams...I have the V Style in my Bassbreaker will have to check this one out to make it more portable.
I’ve used 2 Neo’s in builds. A lil Texas in a 5C3 build and a Celestion V12 Century Vintage in Marshall 18W build. Both great. Cannot find the Celestion anymore. They should better and the weight relief is significant
One characteristic with neo speakers is they seem to always have a more open and chimey top end than their ceramic counterparts as well as more definition. Great for cutting through a mix. I'm a fan of neo speakers.
Celestion creambacks are my favorite speakers. I have a pair with the alnico magnets. Incredible. However, I have listening to reviews of the cream neos and am very impressed, not only for sound, but for light weight. If I hadn't already bought the alnicos, I think I would now go for the neos. Thanks for the review.
Nice video. Too bad Celestion dropped the ball and forgot to post a product page on their website. They also have a Neo Creamback, and the Neo Copperback looks like something I need to try out, my EVMs seem to be getting heavier.
Great Video Pete!!! I use a homemade mini stack. 12´NEO Celestion Century & a G10. Driven from stereo out by my trusty old MOSFET CRATE POWERBLOCK!! Each cab weighs less than 5kg. Handy as I live on 4th floor with no lift & no car for gigs iin Madrid,,,,, .... Mind you ...They have not been downstairs in a while .
Six minutes, beautiful tone. Six twentyfive, awesome too. A bit like Brad Roberts' tone in the crash test dummies cover of the ballad of Peter pumpkinhead.
I really hope you do go through with putting it into a cabinet more suitable for high gain stuff. I'm very interested in how these will handle heavy amps and fuzz.
It sounds good, but how does it place in comparison with other speakers if someone would replace their current speaker with this? After all a speaker in isolation can sound good, but it might not fit your setup.
Which did you get? Tornado classic or the jet? The bell cover or non bell cover? I’m torn and now they have the n12k which is gorgeous but way too much
Hi Pete, always a treat to watch your videos! Now this speaker is up on Celestions site and it's EQ curve looks fairly similar to the Classic G12M-25. Did you get any Greenback vibe at all from it?
Great tones, but I missed higher gain examples in this Review. I guess there's a reason for It? I mean, these speakers don't sound good on high gain tones?
I love my Aguilar neo 112, so light and sounds great. Pete, you've mentioned some affordable headphones that you like but I can't find the reference, do you mind sharing again thanks!
Awesome tones, I'm loving that Suhr PT into the Neo! I'm curious how you're adding the fx, you have your pedalboard patched into the amps fx loop or you adding them in post? Thanks!
Man my back has been hurting and i wanna put a neo speaker in my bassbreaker 30 its just do i want the v type (it comes stock with a v type very bass heavy) or the neo creamback
Maestro- is this the same ribbon mic you recently recommended in another video? (Sorry I forget which vid it was) In that video you were really excited about a particular ribbon mic you were using. ✌🏼
Pete could you please recommend a good set of studio monitors that sound great with irs like to be used with a tube amp and captor x. I’m just looking for good recommendations in the $300 to $500 range. I wanna be able to enjoy what I hear when recording and stuff. It’s important to be inspired by what you hear when your playing, super important for me to play my best. Anyway I’d greatly appreciate any recommendations!
I can't understand how it sounds compared to the original, great, V Type. Neo versions of speakers tend to have less low mids due to lower weight construction and less open highs due to lower sensitivity than their ceramic counterparts. They tend to feel faster too. To me they have more of an aluminum sound, not a bad thing, as speakers with aluminum/ metal dust cups.
Sounds awesome! Have been wondering which neo speaker to get paired with a Neo Creamback in a 2x12 and now I know! Sounds full and balanced but still clear! But as others mentioned, I can't find any info or anything about the Neo Type-V being announced by Celestion!
Just by seeing your video Pete I can't ear much differences compares to your "normal" tone, I'm pretty sure if I had this speaker in my gear I will notice a difference and it may be as well a feeling difference as much as a tonal difference I bet...
