I've been noticing this happening to other people's YT videos too lately. Wonder if YT changed something in the settings for up-loaders, so the audio is only coming out the left side or mono.
7 year ST205 owner here. Sorry to break it to you, but the WRC edition is the same as any other ST205. It just has a bunch of parts that weight and dont work. Anti-lag, water injection, nothing works. I've never heard anyone making the oem AL work. 1st and 2nd gears are restricted to 0.7 bar, afterwards it is 0.9. The JDM version is 252HP, the others are 239. The car is permanent 50:50 power split to the rear and front. The spoiler was a factory option, didnt come only to the WRC edition. It is a great car, I really love mine.
Great to find this video. I just finalized a deal with a broker to get one over from the rising Sun. Currently in transit. The TCS video was a huge help and I plan on reaching out to them for some refreshments also. Love the content. Hope to see more of this beaut.
I own a 165 with forged Gen 4 3sgte, 205 box and diff. Careful with the box, parts are getting scarce and they 'ain't the Xtrac that came in the rally cars!!
This car needs the kouki tail and headlights! I had an FWD one growing up and those alone will dramatically improve the looks of this car. It's a shame that I literally sold my set a few months ago. I spent multiple days of my youth converting those projectors to LHD cutoff.
I can relate to not having a road car for the last however many years. Drift cars on trailer life :/ I have an STI on the way from Japan at the moment for a nice road car. Celica is cool
The WRC bits are waste of time bits, that people pay way to much for the car because they reckon they are "WRC" which they never were... Would be good to see you actually getting them working. I have ran on 1.2bar for years on stock map with no issues. Maybe 1.22 max you want to go. Stock is .9bar about .5bar in 1st and second so uping the boost gets rid of the .5 too (that may affect your Dyno too)
Nice GT4. When you are ready to upgrade the turbo to something that can handle anti-lag better, reach out. Check out my MR2 build, which has an inconel WRC manifold with a Borg Warner EFR. May be able to source another setup if your keen.
lets goo!!! when is papadakis racing going to have a rally team!? sign me up!!! i have an st165 project, camry all-trac and 2wd (homemade) "rally" tacoma and more toyota projects, needless to say I'm spread too thin between all these and saving up for the gr corolla!! but I'm getting suspicious of toyota releasing another celica from some of the weird hints I've heard deep in grapevines around youtube. between this and papadakis' rav-4 build my toyota cup is getting too full. i just need more homies to toast with!!! haha
From memory you also need to drill out the bosses on the exhaust manifold to let the air in. Being a wrc it should have a steel turbine wheel. However if it’s been changed to ceramic it won’t like life on Antilag. Stock 205’s go ok on 17psi. Being a map car a FCD isn’t ideal. Above 17psi the turbo chokes up, worse at high rpm. Car is 50/50 split. The centre diff is open its fed by the vicious coupler. If you plan to make over 400hp look into a 5s block from a Camry. The casting is stronger. Also don’t weigh the car unless you want to be depressed. They are very heavy over 3000lbs.
Yeah, was going to add that you have to drill out all the blanked off holes for the Anti lag, And there is a spot weld on the Actuator stopping it from operating. Later Corolla WRC cars had Inconel exhaust manifolds to stop them shitting themselves. Hopefully Dom can make one for Ryan that will hold up to the job. Some Mitsubishi EVO's Had Titanium and/ or Inconel Compressor wheels, but Exhaust turbine wheel is the one that will take the hammering
Thanks for writing this so I didn't have to. Hope Ryan sees this before he wastes a bunch of time and money trying to get something working that would kill his engine in short order if he even could. One of mine broke a ring land at stock power and 120k miles and I have another one in the workshop at the moment that's got low compression on cylinder 3, which I suspect will be the same when I get it apart. Also going with a Motec is a waste of time in my opinion. Definitely get a programmable ECU for it, as the factory map is very rich. But ECU to go for on MR2s and GT-Fours is Link; there's a plug-in for this car that saves a ton of wiring work.
For being AWD the Celica gt4 is not that heavy I think, the Supra is a good bit heavier for only being rwd and theyre not very far apart from each other in terms of size
@@benrankin8772 you definitely can hold the power but it wont be for long the block tends to crack around the water pump with high hp around 500+ go 5s for the added strength and peace of mind
4:48 it's 50:50 split. torque goes to the center diff first before it gets sent to the front and rear even though it's a transverse layout. it's why you can't do clutches on these by just splitting the transmission and transfer case like you can with evo's. Bad Obsession Motorsports did a complete teardown on how genius this drivetrain is. theoretically, if you destroy the viscous center diff, and strap down the front wheels, the drivetrain is capable of 0:100 rear bias. it's one of the hidden gem's about these cars that not a lot of people know about.
One of my all time favorite cars.. hopefully one day I can have a st-205 before they become over priced 😭. Can't wait to see more videos on this and if there's a build process 👀
they were under 10k for the longest time and now they go for 20+ :( ever since america first got the r32 (legally) the jdm market went to absolute shit
Such a sick car! Been hunting for one of these for quite some time in my price range.. Will be following this build! absolutely love it, keep it coming
Find one quick they go up in price daily, I'm guessing this video won't help with the cost savings much... As an example I imported a ST185 and a ST205 and payed a total of 13K CAN and you will be hard pressed to find one GT-FOUR for 13k in todays market
Yeah but "eeka" sounds stupid. I've always told everyone that tries to correct me that they can call it whatever they wish but I'll still call it "my car"
Had numerous intanetz fights with kids that can't grasp the requirement of the air ancillary lines in the manifold for legitimate antilag. I blame modern ecu companies using the term as a sales gimmick and some trickery to convince punters they got antilag. Got called names. I stood strong 💪 Intanetz fights are important.
@@sumosami I am an SW20 owner. It’s definitely becoming less and less common to see 2/3/4/5 3SGTE’s compared to 2GRFE’s, K20’s, even 3VZ-FE/ti swaps. At least in my community. It’s also not everyday that people are talking about a 3SGTE on RU-vid.
Google is your friend. Pretty easy to look up. Also, look at my username, im a gt four owner since 2003 and know pretty much all there is to know aboit these cars. Not bragging just saying. I could go into insanely lenghty detail about all this but its just easier for you to google it.
Back when I worked at HKS I used to always recommend the purple/round insert for the SSQV. The standard tri-fin one sounds very tweety bird on some cars (like yours). Get one, you'll get much more of a better sounding woosh sound assuming you keep that.
@@JD-eo7dr ST165 and ST185 didn't cheat with the ST185 being Toyota's most successful rally car :D it was just the ST205 that had the breakable turbo restrictor plate cheat (after the FIA changed the rules as Group A rally was getting towards scary Group B speeds).
One of my fav all time cars, always in their natural environment over here in the circut of ireland rally, good luck with the build ill be watching with envy lol
I’ve always read that they are 50/50 split 4wd. My Caldina also has torsen rear diff. The back used to slide out and lose traction in wet 1st gear boosting. Not on my newer potenzas tho. It feels rear wheel bias but everything I look up says 50/50 🤷♂️
Toyota got kicked out of wrc when they brought in the ST205 for cheating. They lied about the exhaust and got kicked out. There a fun car just expensive to replace the suspension and brake rotors.
I don't get why people prefer the WRC. All the stuff doesnt work, just adds weight and complexity and theres no special 1/2500 plaque type thing either (with the exception of the Austrailian market cars). They're literally just random cars taken from the production line and given the extra stuff, no record kept from toyota as far as I know. Also to add it was homologated to Group A, not WRC so dont know why they're called that.
According to a owner of a ST205 GT4 WRC, it only came out with the ports ready to fit the antilag system, but it doesn't came stock with it. Maybe this one already have been modified and received an antilag.
i decided to start saving for a gt4 several years ago when i got my first job, i was hoping that by the 25 year mark for its model id have enough. well, i have enough... for the price they were several years ago. theyre inflating faster than i can save.best i was able to do was implant an engine from one into my 1998 rav4. plenty fun but not short of issues. and hitting 360k on it im hoping to find one for a decent price before my rav dies.
this drivetrain is not your typical tranverse awd. there's some trickery with the way it's built (see Bad Obsession Motorsports channel to see a breakdown of it) power goes to center diff first then split into the front and rear. depending on how much slip the viscous center is allowing, it's essentially the same as a diff splitting an axle left and right. theoretically if the center diff isn't locking at all, you can have 100% front or 100% rear bias with exactly the same probability.
I found out about drifting from the old ass videos of you in your driveway with the 1j hatch!!! Watching this is so cool to me, seeing you shred the driveway again
HEY NICE CARRRR I JUST GOT AN MR2 SW20 TURBO WITH ONLY 74K CAR HAS BEEN PARKED SINCE O5 SUPER CLEAN ONE OWNER.. CAR WAS AT A TOWING YARD.. THE OWNER GOT DEPORTED SO I ASKED THE OWNER OF THE TOWING COMPANY AN HE SAID "GET IT OUT OF HERE""" GAVE HIM A FEW BUCKS NOW THE CAR IS MINE...
Hello i have a 95 celica with a gt4 bumper, bonnet and spoiler, however the engine is the 115hp 2.0 non turbo and it is blown, so need a new engine anyway, does anyone know will the gt4 engine be an easy swap in and what gearbox to pair it with as mine i plan to keep fwd? The reason why i decided not to just buy a gt4 is the current price and because i already have a celica shell that needs and engine anyway, any help would be appreciated
good luck either trying to find the anti lag kit from actual rally teams.. kudos to you champ but not a simple ecu swap will magically make the antilag lines/ kit appear :D
weak ass clickbait i have a wrc motor in my garage and it does not have factory antilag, even if you did drill the holes for the hardlines etc the factory ecu cant control it, thus no factory antilag.
There is actually one of theese for sale close to where I live I always looked over it but now I'm seeing the pictures of the engine bay I can see that it is a wrc spec
On the rally success, they also did the big cheating with restrictor plates. I love Toyota engineering but you gotta mention that scandal because they won at least a couple races with that dirty trick. Nice car though! I especially love the st165
