I live about 30 miles from this site and never ever dreamed it would have Ice Age Flood scablands up there. We drove there this weekend and couldn't see much of the scabland from the road. Glad to have your beautiful footage to reveal what's there.
I was raised in Goldendale Washington. My dad, who was a wheat and alfalfa farmer, always said he would have loved to have been able to stand on top of the Columbia Hills on the Washington side, and experience just one of the Missoula Ice Age Floods roaring down the Columbia River Gorge. Thank you sir, for all your efforts..
The first time I saw the scabbard was with my mom. We had no knowledge about what we were looking at, but we both felt like something really bad had happened. It was the strangest experience. Now I know why we felt that way. It amazes me that the feeling of disaster is still there. Heck, it amazes me that water lines and ripple marks and so many other things are still there. Like it happened in our lifetime.
From Miller Island (the island that you see toward the end of this video) to Avery Park (WA side) has a huge gravel deposit. I'm guessing from the bottom of the flood waters bouncing off the basalt lobe that makes up the "Celilo scablands."
What are the bumpy bits we see more or less throughout but especially at 2:30? Are they related to the basalt columns underneath? Obviously, they're a lot larger than the columns, but maybe the columns clump together leading to similar patterns repeated on a larger scale?
