You also need to buy more units to prepare for the widening war with Italy, etc. I think your idea to start on defense is going to doom you as your troops will be greatly outnumbered. If the Allies get ahead of you in tech, then your boys will be outgunned as well.

I suggest encirclement since it would lower enemies morale which would giving u a higher chance of winning

Tip: Try not to have too many edges in your lines, try to keep them as straight as possible. That minimizes the number of tiles the enemy can attack from, thus making the entire thing more survivable.

Just saying but like what you are saying about the Russians being stopped at your wall makes me think of the battle of Gettysburg a little because on the first day the confederates were only advancing on one road on the western side of the town of Gettysburg and Buford and his Calvary men were just like the kind of wall that you are doing in this game

Download the BlueMax mod, makes the game a whole lot better. New counters, sounds etc etc. Gives it a whole another dimensions according to me at least. I've seen a bit of a play through were it was the French that invaded Belgium and Belgium sided with the Germans. Hold off and that may happen with your game.

36 hour audiobook? I watched The Great War from start to finish, its 225 Episodes long, each about 10 minutes on average. And that comes out to 37.5 hours in total. And thats JUST the main series. Theres a bunch of side material on various other topics that i never even scratched the surface on. The channel as a whole, as it stands, is the biggest WW1 Documentary ever made so far.

You can strategically deploy along rail lines but it will cost you MPPs so only do so if you really have to. Research to maximum as soon as you possibly can or you will pay dearly later in the war, especially as France will be teching for strong infantry and arty especially when they have nothing else to spend their dosh on. Your strategy is sound but you are going to have to get the Russians to surrender before the French get strong or you are doomed. The Entente may even declare against Belgium themselves to get at you. Strong arty in the late game rules over everything else.

You mentioned you were listening to a WWI audiobook. Mind sharing the title? I'm looking for something new, and ideally something that lets me learn a thing.

Okay, so I'm going to speak a lot, but some general tips here. 1. Research. In order of importance, I'd say it's artillery weapons, infantry weapons/tactics/trench warfare, command and control/industrial technology, gas/shell production, and then everything else, with anything related to armored warfare being the lowest. Logistics would be lower if you were not doing an East First strategy, which requires the mass transfer of troops after Russia's defeat. 2. Diplomacy. Out of the nations that you can get involved with diplomacy, Bulgaria is quite useful, Sweden is useful against Russia (there's probably four corps up there), Switzerland is against Italy, and the other Nordics and Spain if there are points left. Do *not* spend diplomacy on the Netherlands, as it is slated to join the Central Powers and an early entry deprives you of MPPs. Also do *not* spend MPPs on majors at all costs, as it barely does anything. And do *not* spend it on Iran, as although it may carry a lot of MPPs due to broken game mechanics, it only has one unit defending the whole country. Well, actually, spend diplomacy on the Netherlands if it threatens to go towards the Allies. Otherwise, no. 3. Fortresses. They offer key defensive bonuses, especially in the early war when trench warfare isn't that developed yet. Try to defend them, but even if you cannot, at least fight for them and have them ruin them before they use them. In other words, fill the hex adjacent to Konigsberg. Also, in addition to the fortresses Lemberg needs to be defended as well, because its fall would draw the Romanians in. 4. For future games. Please, please do west first, because east first means no quick victory in the west, a flanking maneuver in the Low Countries, and just a general slog after Russia is defeated. On the first turn, you can literally take Reims and Lille with cavalry, almost cutting off Belgium after the infantry follows. Also push hard on Serbia because you do outnumber them, and they cannot replace the experience nor the troop count within a short period of time. Belgrade should be taken within the first or second turn, and Serbia is essential for both convincing Bulgaria into the war and sending supplies to the Ottomans, who desperately need them. 5. Speaking of the Ottomans, they will be facing a few units in Egypt, a vicious strike led by a superb general in the Caucasus, and a single detachment in Mesopotamia. Whether you want to push Egypt or the Caucasus is up to you, but the detachment can be dealt with by sneaking a cavalry unit around its flank, since its assured to advance towards Baghdad provided no resistance. In later turns, however, more units will come, so do this quickly. Also, beware of partisans, whose spawn locations can be shown by pressing P. This is not a concern for 1914, but the Arab Revolt starts in mid-1915, so be prepared for them.

You should get the game mod that gives you standard counters but with unit images next to them that evolve with increasing tech. The regular NATO counters are so dull and boring and makes you forget you are fighting a war with people and machines. I have played a ton of SC:WW2 but I don't have this game, but I'm sure the game mechanics are similar. Get to know the S button for supply and how to force march/naval cruise by double clicking. Also the supply mechanics and how you can starve a city by keeping 3+ units around a city until supply runs out. Another thing is subs don't raid unless they have supply and you run out of supply quick on sub patrol.

You might want to be a bit more aggressive, Russia more specifically. I think the germans have favorable odds in battles against russian units but im not sure. Also, the british can blockade germany and, over time, cause them to surrender from dwindling national morale. So if you cant contest the Royal Navy, time is not on your side

Interesting so far. Send your subs out to commerce raid/mess with the blockade. If you can break out then send some DDs and CAs out to do more commerce raiding.

I would have shortened the eastern front in Poland and funneled more troops into Serbia. After all they started the war in the first place :)!

I feel like you should've pushed into Russia earlier because they had so many holes in her front line. If you had pushed into Poland you might have been able to get better defensive ground behind rivers and stuff like that. Although I do prefer a more defensive doctorate myself. Wait for the enemy to kill themselves on your borders and then counter attack when they are the most weak.

This game reminds me of the old Strategy and Tactics games by SI. Don't leave units on corners where enemy can use 4 or more units to attack. That's how those two Austro-Hungarian units died. Also don't be afraid to attack. When you have a solid line against a solid line, attack with first line and finish off or weaken by switching second line units with first line units.

Thanks for this video, really nice to watch! I think you should first try and take Belgrade and finally the Serbians out of the war. There will be a lot of casualties, but that's the price for conquering. Doing that you will have more units to use in other fronts.
