Nice! I would say that you're wasting quite a lot of energy there - most of the heat will be going upwards and not to the target area. Although it is expensive, getting a pulse proportional thermostat (HabiStat make great ones) and a deep reflector some will save you lots of money on electricity in the long run ;)

JTB Reptiles definitely losing a lot of heat. I will eventually switch to a heat panel underneath the bin, i have avoided a deep dome with the CHE as I didn't want the heat to build up inside it .👍

Jeremiah Natte I could and probably will need one for the summer, during the cooler parts of the year, i need it at 100% capacity just to reach target temperature 👍

Aquarimax If you have a thermostat connected and the CHE is suitably close to the hotspot you don't risk heat build up. You could even try putting the crickets somewhere where the CHE could be positioned underneath it, then as the heat rose you would waste much less of it. I would not use a standard on/off stat because CHEs produce so much heat that there would be a massive temperature swing. Pulse props also extend the life of the CHE ;)

Good information, I'll definitely keep all of this in mind as I consider my options. Thanks!

Is it normal to have a hairline cracks in the ceramic heat emitter bulb?
