days of painting the first collection of 2021!
got real chatty in the studes after a tough (+ freezing) week, but made it through. bought a very exciting new addition to the studio too that I'm hoping will make life 10 times easier!

do you put your pieces on top of something in the kiln or how does the stamp at the bottom not stick?

great question! since underglaze is essentially just clay water and colourant it won’t stick to the kiln shelf, just like how a raw bottom of a piece won’t stick. it does sometimes leave and imprint on the shelf but it won’t affect future pieces you put in the same place! I hope that makes sense! I use an underglaze ink pad too so it’s applied super thinly 💕

also one of the first things a ceramics teacher taught me is to not hold greenware by the handle bc it can break off so u gave me anxiety so many times! but maybe it's just fine and i've been paranoid about that for years for no reason??

that’s definitely good practice! I don’t typically hold things by the handle before they’ve been bisqued but I’m also pretty confident in my attachments and was feeling spicy in this video haha 😉
