One of my favourite pieces of music from Animal Crossing New Horizons is the song that plays during dedication ceremonies. Its so hopeful and wistful with a touch of melancholy, and somehow it felt nostalgic after just one listen.
I'm not the first one to point out that the tune has some American Football vibes, particularly its chord progression and melody - but as far as I know, nobody has covered the song in the band's iconic midwest emo style. So I decided to give it a try! The band's debut album is a favourite of mine and it was fun to work with a style I don't often do. I especially enjoyed including some math rock inspired time signature shifts. I definitely did not nail the band's distinctive guitar tones, but I'm overall happy with the result.
Interestingly, nearly every time I've arranged an Animal Crossing song, I was directly inspired by a specific band or artist's style. Huh.
