I don't really understand the hate for CV, maybe it's different when you hear them brand new out of the box, bought AT-15's from Circuit City in the early 90s and used them for 20+ years, they were popular in our home and friends were talking about them, they sounded great even at low volumes using a Kenwood KR-V8010 Receiver (100w / channel). wouldn't mind getting another pair now that I have the space for them again, I had ended up giving my original pair to a cousin when we moved into an apartment.
Cerwin Vega! Always wanted a pair of S-1. So dynamic quick and durable with circuit breakers! Plus those fabulous solid block cabinets! Red surrounds. Really nice looking and even better sounding pair of bookshelf speakers.
My brother had a chance to get this speaker for free from a woman that needed space, but the speaker was not stored very well at all. She had that for years in here basement after the death of her husband, all the driver and the tweeter was all in good shape but the speaker grill and the speaker cabinet that was in a hell of a shape so like my brother work in wood he made brand new speaker cabinet all in Oak, damn it is crazy how they look nice and the sound is so crazy now i am looking for some for myself i would love to get some D9 but hard ti fine some nice one
I have a set of AT-15s and need to power them for the backyard/garage (they are not in great shape). I am glad I listened to the last part of the video because yes they do sound great even in lower watt receivers but there is a point where the receiver tops out and distorts (Sansui G-5000, pre amp FX audio tube 03 upgraded with tubes and 4 BB OPA627). Would an Emotiva BasX A-300 and the Same pre amp do the job to power these beasts? I like bass at parties and it’s sometimes difficult to do so in a back yard, LOL!!
Id go for something nice and powerful, like a Crown amp. Nice clean power with plenty of over head. You have a good pre, you just need to add a nice power amp to it. I found a cts 8200 on Craigslist for $200. It is an 8 channel bridgeable amp with DSP that pushes out a total of 1960watts on 240v, or 1640 on 120v. Power amps, like Crown around 1000 watts can easily be found on CL or similar for $150 - 300, and then you can add more speakers down the road if you want. I have 8 speakers cabinets hooked to my crown, 6 15" Technics and 2 12's JBL's plus mids and highs, and it has a separate gain knob for each speaker, so the ones that need more power get "mo-powa", and the ones that cant handle it get less. If you can find, have the $, and want stay with Sansui, id hunt down an old Sanui9090db, this is what i have pushing 4 Cerwin Vega AT-15's, and it doesn't even break a sweat.
What did you use to seal the cabinets? I just acquired a pair of AT-15s and there is cabinet rattles. I sealed the seams with wood glue, and added a brace between the left and right panels perpendicular to the lower factory brace.
Where are you located? I live in Phoenix, AZ and my dad owned a pair of those, and now I own Cerwin-Vega SL-15. I would love to visit your location and listen.
Had my AT-015's for decade's, since new. They got water damaged, and bloated on the bottom, and the speaker needs re-coned...most likely they're destined for a life in storage :(
I have these, I have an ONKYO AV RECEIVER TX-SR605. What is the best way to hook them up/connect them? Is this receiver doing them justice? I need to raise the base and can’t figure it out. I freaking love music more than anything, but I’m not tech savvy at all. I need these puppies to work.
There are so many options that work well, the Onkyo is good for surround sound but the AT15's at their best are going to be set up in a 2 channel setup. The AT15's are unique because they can sound great with low power due to their very high efficiency but can also handle very high power. You do not have to break the bank to get these going, but definitely need to ditch the Onkyo for these. The best way to build a system for these is to get a separate power amp I run a Crown K2 amplifier, then you will need a preamplifier, the good part of using separate components is you can change preamps without having to replace your whole system. I recommend Crown K2, but there are some more affordable. Look on eBay for a K2 and see if its in your budget. If not, go to my site (link below) and send me a message on my chat feature and I can see what I have for you. Just leave your email address in the chat so I can respond back to you when I am available. I can also help you with a preamp. Thanks for taking the time to reach out! -Damien WWW.BIGAZSPEAKERS.COM
Thank you for your opinion. Curious though; Are you generalizing this statement to all speakers made by and badged Cerwin Vega from any era? Did you come to this conclusion based on specific models you've owned and experianced or based on articles or forum chat you've read? Lastly, what are some "affordable", lets cap it at under $3,000 usd, brands/models you do consider hi-fi? Cheers!
@@BIGAZSPEAKERS I base it on the speakers i've heard and owned myself. AT-12. VS-100. AL-1000. VF-6. And they could all play loud (apart from VF6) but they didn't have any clarity or good imaging. Im currently powering a pair of Dynavoice DF-6 with a Yamaha A-S1100 and it sounds better than anything from Cerwin that i've heard. And even at low volume, my livingroom table vibrates (solid wood). I actually had a friend buy the VF-6 not long ago, had them for a month and changed because we were so disappointed in them. He now has a pair of XTZ 99.36 FLR and is very pleased... finally. He borrowed my Dali 6006 for almost a year and still considering buying them because he loved them so much.
@@Dreez76 Interesting. I've never considered Cerwin Vega or JBL for that matter "High-End" products. Even if JBL's pricing is? I always felt JBL speakers were over priced. I've Owned a pair of L-166. Cerwin Vega pretty much overall, were not as well made as their counter part JBL. CV were more inline with Altec Lancing. However, the Cerwin Vega that were serious contenders were their S-1 and their R123 models. Everything else was cost cutting vinyl covered boxes like the ones here. Mid-Fi stuff.
lol..ugh..music snobs..have them in every page, video, group, social media site,forum.. I would take this pair of CV over literally ANY speaker you could offer me..ANY..
