My heart sank when I saw the thumbnail. Thought the 182 might have been irreparably damaged. I am happy that you made it out in one piece, and that you were able to recover the aircraft. I look forward to seeing it in the air again once repairs are complete.
So sorry to hear about the accident, but I’m so relieved that there were no injuries, and that your aircraft is repairable. You can count on us to keep supporting you in any way we can.
Agreed and great thinking, so happy you assessed the situation and took your time to land rather than to try some other risky moves. Great quick decision and what a learning opportunity. Glad you're still here with us and I can't wait to see you back in the air.
I am truly impressed with how much help you got with moving the plane and transporting it to shore so quickly and easially, many people were glad to help. Not very common here in America, the people in Costa Rica were very good to you.
Wow - so sorry to see this, but happy to hear everyone is okay. I love your channel and the amazing flying videos you produce. Wishing a speedy and complete recovery for your beautiful ship.
I am very glad to see you face a situation like this and come out on top. I am sure this experience will make you an even better pilot that you already are. Glad everyone was ok and that you did not loose this amazing airplane. I wish her a speedy recovery.
So glad you all are ok. I am sure your experience in the backcountry helped out tremendously. I had an accident and had all these what ifs going through my head, but kept thinking there are many what ifs that could have been much worse. Again, so glad all of you are ok. I have used oil analysis on annuals but have switched to every oil change. Definitely going to keep doing it now.
Larry, glad you and your passengers are safe and ok. Your airmanship is what drives me to your channel and will continue to do so. It's eye opening to see how even the minor contamination in the oil analysis can be so important and for all to learn from it. Look forward to seeing you back in the air soon!
Thank you for sharing this. I like how you walked us through your decision making process all the way thru the landing. I look forward to you having it back in the skies. It would be great if you could show a bit more of what they found in your engine and the rebuilt process.
Wow Larry! Glad no one was injured and the 182 will get to fly again. Hoping you'll be able to show us the repairs and your findings on the engine. Wishing you the best luck in restoring your bird. Truly appreciate your videos with great interest from Brazil. Vida longa ao 182!
Glad you and your passenger are OK. Thanks for this video. I’m planning on flying in Costa Rica and you have given insights on what is like to own/fly there. Not cheap, for sure. Love your channel, I’ve learned a lot from you. Hope the 182 is back soon.
Wow. At least you have a nice story to share. Thanks to god nobody got injured... Or better said, thanks to your pilot skills nobody got injured! You are one of my favorite aviation content creators. I hope to see that 182 back in the air very soon! Good luck and all the best from Germany
Glad to see you are ok, have loved your videos for a long time. Hope to see you flying soon! I am sure TI-ABE will be better than ever when she comes back!
Wow Larry, I am so happy to hear that there was no injuries and that the plane was repairable. I have been following you for a while now because I found that your videos were authentic and not a juvenile display of ego. Thank you for sharing your flying experiences both good and bad, I learned so much from you. From Ontario, Canada 🇨🇦 with much respect and admiration. Lionel. CH701STOL
Glad to see you made it out safe Larry! Oil analysis told me twice that I had a broken piston in the engine. In both cases, the mechanics all said the oil results were just a false alarm.
Dear Larry, I am very sorry about the bad landing and the broken Cessna . But You and your friends were not hurt, so maybe this is a cause for celebration. You are a great educator and ambassador for flying. Thank you. I look forward to your new content when she flies again.
Glad you are ok and the plane was rescued too! A riveting story As a student many years ago, I remember my instructor saying "it is not if you will have an engine failure but when".
That was tough to watch. I know you love that plane and have modified it to do exactly what you want it to do. I'm glad to see no one was injured and that it will be flying soon. Best wishes!
I wish you the best outcome, and I am so impressed by your cool head true these rough patches of your aviation history, thanks for sharing what is probably not your proudest moment, but can serve as a head's up don't overlook all the signs, for all of us.
That's a bummer. I'm glad that you're alright though. You and that plane have been through a lot of adventures. I hope to see you guys in the again soon.
Every landing zone is always successful until the unexpected arrival takes place and when it does happen at a moments notice that we can truly walk away from is a great thing and I’m glad you both are so blessed and the 182 will be back better than before
Astonishing that you managed to pull it through! You must feel honored to have save you and your passenger without minor damages. Planes can be repaired but lives there's only one! Glad you can share your experiences but mostly the bad ones in which we all (pilot students or even experienced pilots) can learn a lot from this to prevent it from happening. I hope you are doing fine and don't worry about the plane, there's nothing it has a solution except from death
Glad to see all is well. Most people say that the oil analysis is not worth much but I agree with you. What reading was high in the oil analysis? Thanks!
I agree with everyone else in saying I’m sad and sorry to here ABE eat the sand. Super glad you came out of the incident ok. As a pilot, we never like to her or see other brothers go through these situations but we all learn a little from stories like yours.
That’s so sad. Best of hope for your plane and your finances for these repairs. Glad that’s it’s repairable and can’t wait to see some backcountry flying. :D
Thanks for sharing this incident, especially the cautionary information about warning signs from the oil analysis. I didn't fully understand what happened with the engine other than the presence of contamination including fiber. What actually caused the power loss? Did you lose a cylinder because of valve train damage, or did one or more bearings fail? I'm taking note of the fact that the Sportsman STOL and VGs, and your frequently practiced ability to land at very low airspeeds, contributed to the good outcome. I'm glad your bird is reparable! I've learned a lot from your channel. Hope you're back in the air soon.
So grateful everyone is ok. If had had to emergency land a small plane I'd want you at the yoke. Good job. Glad to see all the emergency help and that you got your baby off the island. Gods speed brother
Most importantly - you and passengers are okay. Stuff happens, especially if you devote your time to producing cutting edge educational videos like you do. Your skill certainly minimised the risk and contributed to the low impact of the incident. I hope the aircraft makes it safely back into flight. Good job.
Sorry to hear about the bird but glad everyone was safe!!! Great job as a pilot in that circumstance! Very happy to hear that the plane will fly again, that's one awesome bird you got there!
Damn was this recently?? I thought I saw a timestamp saying "2000" but maybe date/time on camera wasn't set?? Happy to see you and everyone made it out okay... more kickass videos to come!!!
Sorry to see this happened but your great pilot skills made it a safe situation. Great job, and glad to see your able to look forward to getting your plane back in the air.
