I was a pilot in the First World War, and we lot used to be very proud of our aircraft, finding excuses to rationalise our aircraft model assignments. My favorite was the Sopwith Spudfest, but its landing characteristics were awful. One thing I learned after transitioning into the Grumman Godsmack, Fairey Battleship and then through the Mitsubishi Arvonak to the Skyfalcon, was that nothing is nicer than a parachute. Therefore, although I like the look and heritage of the Cessna 172/182, I have to concede that the Jake Ae13A reconnaisance float plane is the better of the two, followed by the Fokker Wolf Slingshot Rabbit Hound. Why bother flying, when you have no lifeboat attached to the submarine?
Not even a fair comparison, two different classes of aircraft with about a 70hp difference between the two and about 50 kts, id still take the 182 reguardless..
182 is better all round as well you can go to floats and skis. Plus loading Cirrus may be faster but I would take a 182 turbo hands down all day every day
The Cessna C152 is a Trainer. The C172 is a Trainer and Short Journeys. C182 - Short Journeys. The Cirrus is Cheaper Than The Diamond, However More Expensive Than the C182. Long Journeys = Diamond DA42 or DA62. An Aeroplane is NOT like a Car. If The Car Engine Fails - The Accident is That You Just STOP and be Stranded. In an Aeroplane - Engine Failure = You Die. If You're Lucky (Can Find a Long Grass Field) = You Live. However, The Aircraft is a Write Off (Destroyed) and The Homes it Falls On. The Diamond DA42 and DA62 = They Have Multiple Backup Systems for Critical Components. The C182 = $500,000. The SR22 = $750,000. The DA42 = $1 Million. C172 = $400,000. C152 = $300,000.
My observation over many years is that too many Cirrus SR series pilots have accidents in the traffic pattern. Unlike the C182, the SR planes are "slippery," meaning that some flight stability has been sacrificed to increase speed. At the low speeds of the traffic pattern the SR planes are more likely to stall at altitudes where recovery is impossible. If a pilot keeps the speed up in the pattern, then turns must be made with a higher bank, also inviting a stall. The C182 produces more lift and drag, making it slower but safer in the traffic pattern.
It's stupide to compare those 2 aircrafts, they are not for the same price and they are for different mission, it's like comparing a F-250 with a Cadillac CTC-V
A high wing ain't sexy but is far more practical. Rainy day? You're under the wing. Hot day? Open the large windows. Also remember the SR22's vertical velocity when crashing with the parachute deployed is still higher than the 182's stall speed. Also, hand flying the SR22 sucks and is fatiguing. That side stick is attached to a stiff spring mechanism which isn't comfortable to push against. I'll take a Diamond DA50 over both of them.
Let's not forget the necessity to play Peek-A-Boo before entering a turn In Any High-Wing, Tractor-Configuration plane. And, yes, Mr. Wallace's Airplane company has sold a Wichita-load of high wing planes. And McDonald's has sold billions of beefy fatburgers. Perhaps neither company's low-end (well, less expensive than an SR22) products are a good idea. [Although...the former Wren (now Petersen Performance Katmai & Kenai) Skylane conversions Are Definitely on my Bucket List !]
I find in my Mooney the propwash blows right into the cabin vent so once the engine's started heat isn't an issue. And you won't catch me flying in rain in an aircraft I own, wouldn't do that to my paint & prop.
@@lucasbrien5008 What do I want with an airplane that i cannot fly in rain? My paint is like new after 1400 hours of all weather flying, and my prop is like new after 500 hours.
@@cherokee592 If you fly a cherokee like your name suggests, you likely are not impacting the rain at as high of a velocity as a Mooney. I personally have not been damaged by flight through rain, but I know someone who has the non-turbo version of my aircraft and their paint and propeller were pretty badly chipped after just a couple hours. I also do not have my IFR yet which is why I wouldn't be flying in rain most of the time anyway.
Focus, Doug, Focus. Ground loops are irrelevant for Nose draggers! And. Puhleeze eliminate the Repetitive, Intrusive, Repetitive, Intrusive, Autism-Inducing Pseudo-Music. It might make you be viewed as Obnoxious.
