Although I will buy a plane, as soon as the money is right, it fill for sure not be a turboprop. Our business doesn't make turboprop kind of money. Sadly.
Slow, but EASY to fly. No gear up landing, no worry about pressurization costs or cycle/airframe limits, and like a Timex it takes a beating. Also, plenty of elbow room.
My family has run a Part 135 scheduled/charter op for the last 20 years; we started with the C208B in 2001 and started operating the PC-12 in 2003. Switched to an all PC-12 fleet for turboprops about 10 years ago, maybe less, because it's so much faster and more comfortable for customers. So yeah, maybe your point about the PC-12 being so much better rings true. But I'll never forget a missionary pilot who has flown turbine DC-3s, Beech 18s, and all manner of other stuff in Africa and around the world telling me that the Caravan was the easiest airplane to fly precisely that he'd ever flown. That speaks volumes. Thanks so much for a great video, I look forward to seeing more.
The Caravan is like a truck or bus that flies. It's unmatched in that role. Apparently people even fitted (external) showers on it. The barn door flaps are nice. To go places fast it's not the best option. But if one needs to (relatively cheaply) haul a lot of crap (or passengers) or spend time in Alaska? It's difficult to beat. Those turboprop maintenance numbers though, geez.
These videos are great, thanks for the awesome content! I've skydived out of Caravans and Grand Caravans hundreds of times and they always just feel like home. I'd love to see you covering other jump planes like the Twin Otter or Short Skyvan. Talk about a rectangle!
It's funny how those floats make it possible to land on something other than a runway... You know what also lands on something other than a runway? That's right, a CH77! You should do a video on one of those someday :)
As much as I'd like to drag a canoe and a couple of motor bikes along, and have one of these on amphibs, I can't get over the fact that you'd be spending between $2-3 million and thumping and bumping along in the teens with cannulas hanging off your nose doin' 160 knots with a 45 knot headwind... Still, that's what I'd have if I win the Powerball...and so much more 🙂
Me: broke ass can't afford a plane ticket, let alone a whole ass plane Also me: 🤔🤔🤔. Hmmm.. yeah the cost per mile is a bit too high, and the overhaul would be a deal breaker. I'll pass on this one.
