It wasn't up to the ACC. Your conference is weak and everyone knows it. FSU played a horrible Louisville team for the conference championship. It's a watered down conference and now that the TV revenue is so far behind the SEC and Big Ten that the big teams have to get out. FSU and Clemson need SEC or Big Ten money to keep up and stay competitive!
@GamingHistorySource

@@WeSRT4 I take no issue with anything you said. I agree 100%. Which is why I am all on board for the top brands leaving this miserable conference. The ACC did nothing to help FSU get what they played for. But it goes way deeper than that. The addition of 3 more teams that nobody wanted fostered by another team that isn't even a member is another thing I take issue with. The ACC sucks & I look foreword to seeing it burn to the ground.

@@unc0mm0n2 The ACC has no real clout and if they had tried too hard it would have made that fact even more apparent. The answer is ultimately for the biggest powers in the ACC to find new homes. The conference has been watered down even worse with the new additions and things will only get worse.

You make a really great point! I think that the answer is that they probably don't. However, I don't think the decision is up to Fox. I believe the reality is just more complex. UVa is in a state already contiguous to a B1G school. It is, as stated in the video, in the I 95 corridor. No travel issues to speak of and expansion down the coast. I am not sure that UVa has a major chance, but it is possible. Stanford is nearly 400 miles from LA and not near any other B1G school. It is in the same time zone as the two Pacific Northwest schools, but so what? Stanford is obviously a great school academically, but the Cardinal could actually survive as an independent with its great Olympic sports (and enormous endowment) leading the way. It is also possible that Stanford might not want to come without Cal, but we are not likely to ever find out.

Guys! Your over thinking things! The Florida schools are the top priority outside of Notre Dame. That's right, Miami and FSU! Its about CFB, brand, tv markets, population and history. If was about academics, Stanford and California would have gotten offered to the B10 before USC, UCLA, Oregon and Washington. The B10 specifically got USC and UCLA for CFB, the state of California and the tv markets of California. The same applies for Miami and FSU for the state of Florida. The B10 tv partners will have say so. They want national weekly matchups for the B10! Miami and FSU versus Penn State, Ohio State, Michigan, USC, UCLA, Nebraska, Oregon and themselves. Also, Miami and FSU are in Eastern standard time. The base B10 schools are closer to Florida than California and they can recruit better in Florida by having Miami and FSU in the B10! Also, I live here in Florida as a Miami fan but I'm originally from Chicago. The state of Florida if full of MidWest and East coast transplants. I think Florida State and Clemson are better fits for the SEC, but then again, they might want to be associated with the more national profile that the Big Ten is building to. @observer466
@observer466 6 месяцев назад
As much as the B1G may want ND, it is not worth taking on the dead weight of Cal, or even Stanford. Maybe the B1G would accept Stanford, but never Cal. The B1G schools have made it clear that they will not add schools that do not, at the least, add the $80 to $100 million per school that the B1G will be earning (plus playoff money). Cal would literally add nothing financially. It is possible that Stanford would not come without Cal, so neither will go to the B1G. It is incredible what the ACC has allowed ND to do, including "recommending" Cal and Stanford. ESPN was openly unhappy with these additions, as well as SMU, since they did not add to the ACC. And the ACC earns about half of what the B1G earns.

Research dollars are worth 10x what sports dollars will bring in. I see the B10 focusing on FSU (with AAU membership) Miami, NC and possibly Virginia. The Florida market is vital for recruiting, so the B10 will take one of those schools. Another school that may consider jumping from the SEC is Tx A&M if it wants to avoid Texas. Both P2 conferences want NC, but I think it fits better in the B10. If it doesn’t get NC, I think the SEC will probably take Clemson, a Florida school, maybe NC State. Depending on how big the P2 want to get, I think Va. Tech may go to the SEC as well. At that point, I think ND will have no option but to join the B10. Once the top teams have been scooped up, the B12 will be happy to take the leftovers and match the number of the P2. Most people see the limit at 24 schools for the P2, so if offered any school will want to get into any conference before the ship is sunk. The big losers in all this will be Stanford and Cal.

Good show. Buckeye here. This the first time I've heard an intelligent discussion of B1G expansion. You guys seem to be the only channel who has heard of the B1G's "additive" rule. There is something I would like to clear up on that rule. The way AD Gene Smith described it in a press conference is that it is "additive NOW," not on the come, ten years from now. That interpretation would put UNC in a different light. They don't have the football eyeballs now to head up a B1G expansion deal. I guess they could be a Plus 1. Pete Thamel has reported that UNC and UVA are at the top of the SEC's target list. It has also been reported that the major B!G supporter in the UNC administration has moved on to MSU as president. FSU will be #19. My info is that their partner will be Miami. We agree on Clemson and Notre Dame. IMO, I don't see the B1G expanding beyond twenty-four schools because of the additive rule, and that's a stretch. My guess is Notre Dame and partner (???) and two schools in Texas.

@davesteller6301 | football is not driving the B10s realignment push...AT ALL. 1. Both conferences have leaked out that UNC is the most desired ACC property, correct? UNC is the ACCs 5th-6th best football brand, at best. If it was purely a football move, Clemson + FSU would be an easy choice. Media rights consultants confirm Clemson + fsu account for roughly 50% of the ACCs value. And we all know football accounts forc the heavy lifting when it comes to media rights deals. UNCs is desired due to it being an untapped tv market for both the B10 n SEC. It allows both leagues to get a higher per sub rate for their respective prestige network. Last time I checked, UW Maryland Rutgers were not football powerhouses.

This is what I think may happen and stress may take place but not sure will unfurl exactly like this. What I am certain of is any recreation of the PAC or something that gets all MWC schools power status or more money than AAC is not going to happen. The networks will decide ultimately whether or not schools leave, get kicked out, get added to other Autonomy Conferences, get the money for their moves, which G5 Conference organizers get a boost in revenue by new additions and new subtractions and how to be distributed. One is that only a max of 3-5 schools will leave the ACC and go to the SEC and BiG10 and nowhere else. That is if any leave, and they don’t reorganize and reconstruct the ACC into a more solid conference with detrimental performance programs removed. Two is that if they lose schools, the ACC remains a P4/A4 conference because they either prefill or backfill with appropriate schools from the PAC-2, MWC, AAC, and Big East. Those schools would be Washington State, Oregon State, San Diego State, Colorado State, Air Force, Navy, Army, USF, UConn, Villanova, Tulane, and Memphis as the top schools to be added. The third thing that ACC could do if they pass on all three of the service academies and not go after any other Big East schools except UCONN is add additional schools from other conferences not originally selected or thought of. They then (the ACC) would be targeting interest from SBC schools and would be taking in other MWC schools and AAC schools too such as: CCU, App State, Utah State, Rice, JMU, Wyoming, New Mexico, ODU, Marshall, Tulsa, Temple, Nevada, Southern Miss, UAB, UTSA, and Georgia Southern. These would all be vetted and reviewed and considered before picking four to six schools to go with the other schools added. Fourth scenario of course of action would be picking up the two schools of the PAC and one MWC school in San Diego State and add just UCONN and two AAC schools. This is because no one leaves the ACC, but it is dissolved much like what the original PAC9/10 did in the late 1950s and reorganized the ACC (like I mentioned in the last part of point one) to be more competitive and complete and complex to pick a true contender and weaker teams from as it would be balanced out with top tier teams and no true garbage teams. This possible scenario leads to my fifth and final point. Fifth overall point or things to transpire if the ACC holds together but trims the nonproductive teams or not as productive teams in football and all other sports on a consistent basis. This would be the formation of the ACC cast outside of new ACC and not added to any other P4 conferences, some really productive teams from MWC and AAC teams getting together with a few additional schools possibly from SBC and MAC and create a super strong G5/6 conference or morph into the AAC conference. They push to get 15-20 million per school with the alignment they have as a pitch to multiple networks. While it would suck for Boise State and UTSA and App State to not get in a true P4 conference and would catch some heat if it was a restructured but better AAC they all joined, it would still be better than the alternative. For the former ACC schools now in AAC or for SMU case back in AAC, it’s a dip in revenues but not a huge loss if can get 18 million dollars or 20 million dollars per year per school.

The UNC athletics director is not an ACC good old boy. He actually came to UNC from the Univ of Tulsa where he was AD previously. Having said all this, as a UNC alum, here's what I think will happen: There is a rift between the powers that be in Chapel Hill. Many just don't want to leave the ACC because they believe that UNC is in essence the backbone of the conference. Others, however, believe that we risk falling behind by remaining. My guess is that the latter group will win the day and that UNC will join with Clemson and FSU to get out. I also believe that once this internal battle is settled, then UNC will move rapidly to leave. I also do not believe UNC will join the Big Ten and, rather, will opt for the SEC.

Don't forget the deal the state of North Carolina cut with the ACC in tax breaks in order to get them to move the headquarters to Charlotte, so the state has reasons for wanting the ACC to still be around. As an East Carolina Alumni, i can see the powers that be trying to keep the ACC together even if FSU and\or Clemson leave, but at the same time I can see UNC going to the SEC if the ACC is not deemed savable (with UNC striking out of conference schedule deals with NC State, Duke, and Wake).

The next group who don’t have a P2 landing spots which I call Robin schools that would be a partner for Batman schools are: Miami, NCSt, VT. Then there are enigma schools like Duke (BB & academics) and GT (Atlanta, academics) that bring specific benefits but don’t move the FB needle. The next group are B12 like schools: Louisville, Pitt, Syracuse. The rest BC, Wake, Calford and SMU will end up homeless and may have to combine with WSU/OSU and grab MWC & AAC schools and try to stick as a # P4 conference. Stanford and Cal would not want nor approve of Boise State or UNLV definitely. They would want Army and Navy added along with some SBC and MAC schools who have Tier-1, Carnegie-1, R-1 status and AAU status such as Toledo and Buffalo and CCU and Rice and UNT and other more academically qualified MWC schools in New Mexico and Utah State before touching UNLV and Boise State. I agree with most of the schools you mentioned except those two and possibly CSU left out too for more consistent competition in all sports and better academic programs in other colleges as well. In fact I can see Boise State, Nevada, San Jose State, Fresno State, UNLV, Hawaii, New Mexico, Wyoming and the remaining AAC schools and a few SBC schools recreate the AAC and keep it as the best G5 Conference and highest paid G5 Conference with revenue improved to 15-20 million dollars range. A recreated or restructured ACC will feature more Eastern and Central teams than Western, but Boise State and UNLV will not be part of that expansion or recreated or restructured ACC. This is under the assumption that the ACC loses both Florida schools, Clemson, both UNC & NCST, Georgia Tech, and both Virginia schools for a total of 8 schools gone. If the ACC remains a viable conference and keeps A4 status, the adds and conference would be as follows: 1.BC 2.UConn 3.Syracuse 4.Army 5.Navy 6.Villanova or Temple 7.JMU 8.Pitt 9.Louisville 10.Wake Forest 11.Duke 12.Memphis 13.USF 14.Tulane 15.SMU 16.UTSA or Rice 17.Air Force 18.Colorado State 19.Utah State 20.San Diego State 21.Stanford 22.California 23.Oregon State 24.Washington State Remember it’s about keeping the values of the conference and keeping Notre Dame involved in all sports except Ice Hockey and keeping their schedule agreements in place to keep the market value up and viewers number up and profitable. But I could see it be like the above. And again could see the 8 remaining MWC teams and 8-10 remaining AAC teams merge together under the AAC name and add top schools from SBC and MAC to get the strongest and most profitable and valuable G5/6 conference. Now everything I said makes sense. But this college academics and athletics and none of it ever makes sense or even comes out remotely relevant and understandable in the decisions these goofs make. I think you would agree with this.

I see the B1G looking at all those ACC markets and looking to pick them clean for Boston, both Tallahassee and Miami, Atlanta, & Raleigh/Durham. They clearly care about the viewership and large fan bases to leverage TV deals and become the largest conference. Outside FSU, Clemson, and UNC, plus Miami and Duke as “add-ons,” most of the school who do not get a landing spot are stuck in the ACC until 2036. The new additions of SMU, Cal, and Stanford, are coming into a conference that in the next two years might not be around, or will be around until 2036. Also, in 2026 I heard the GOR is up for renewal from ESPN, so that makes any membership change prior to that interesting. Because ESPN could decide not to renew and end it I the next few years, 2027 or 2028. The ACC has not only the P2 to deal with at “pouching” members, but the B12 especially if ESPN doesn’t renew the GOR in 2026. Also, that is when the B12 commission put in a prevision into the CFP playoff that allows the committee and the conference to renegotiate with ESPN about the deal if any Conference realignment happens prior to that date. The ACC is truly in limbo until 2036 or a court says the GOR is not an ironclad deal with game rights.

100% agree. VT, Miami Louisville and Pitt will end up in the Big12. NCState is knocking on the door if SEC and B1G aren’t interested.

Any podcast linking FSU & Clemson to the Big 10 has zero credibility.

The SEC has the biggest payout per school in the CFP playoffs (due to 16 schools v 18 schools). As for the future, UNC commissioned a Chicago firm to give an analysis for 2030. In that analysis, the SEC s estimated to make per school 16m more per school over the B1G by 2030. I suggest you do more research on $ payouts. FSU is the big prize, not CU (although CU is clearly second best today).
