I used to be a prof at Wisconsin and now am at USC. I probably shouldn't say this, but to me, Camp Randell dominates the Coliseum as a college football venue.
I grew up in Wisconsin but I've also been to the Coliseum (and my sister went to USC during undergrad, Wisconsin for law school); Camp Randall is DRAMATICALLY better than the Coliseum. And I actually think the Rose Bowl is much better than the Coliseum. Yes, the Coliseum has the columns, it's a cool stadium, but Camp Randall is much better.
The thing I love about Huntington is how nice the interior of the stadium is. Compared to other stadiums I have been to (Florida State and Wisconsin), the amenities inside are closer to NFL style stadiums.
Camp Randall now seats 75k following the recent renovation, yes that’s down from 80k but still by no means small. Hell that’s bigger then the average new NFL stadium these days, and it even took all the way up till 2010 for Lambeau to surpass it as the biggest stadium in the state.
I live in Maryland but I’m an Ohio State fan and that game was PACKED. Me and most of the OSU fans sat in that huge upper deck and it was a great experience.
The Horseshoe is only quiet because of how successful Ohio State is you don’t need to get crazy loud when you know you’re gonna win by 50. However for night games and big games like Penn State or Michigan or the big non conference game the Shoe gets incredibly loud.
I wouldn’t say there’s only two other good teams in the big 10 other than OSU. You have Wisconsin, Michigan State a lot of years, granted they both just change coaches, but usually pretty good teams especially when they have a lot of seniors. Then you have the teams that are good only when they have a lot of seniors on them, Minnesota, Iowa and if Nebraska can ever find the right coach they can be in the Wisconsin Michigan state spot, possibly competing with Ohio State, Michigan & Penn State. Maryland has potential now you add UCLA, USC, Washington, and Oregon makes it even better.
Excuse me? Camp Randall is a “smaller stadium?” It has a seating capacity of over 80,000! What in the world makes you think it qualifies as a smaller stadium?
Great show Ginger. Hey, here is a good idea. How about doing the best cities or college towns for football, or all sports. Just sayin. It would be right up your alley.
Our new stadium will be even smaller. As a student at NU from 1979-1983 Ryan Field (as Dyche Stadium) has only memories of suffering and despair. The team, students, staff and alum deserve an upgrade.
Iowa isn't even relevant in the conversation. You guys had one lucky win against Ohio State a few years back, other then that, what have you accomplished?
So appropriate that you rank Ohio Stadium as #2....because if you look at it from an overhead aerial view...it looks like a....GIANT TOILET BOWL!!! A perfect place to take a big $2 DUMP!! DON"T forget to flush!!
I've always thought Maryland's stadium was awful and looks lopsided. You'd think Under Armor would help them with more than the jerseys! But I expected you to put OSU or Michigan at #1 and I always thought Penn State had a better stadium. I agree that Beaver is the best in the B1G and so glad you didn't take the cliche approach!
Ya I've been to Maryland, granted it wasn't for a game but it was whatever. I've been to many games at Camp Randall which is dramatically better. Dude, the Rose Bowl is WAY better than the Coliseum, and my sister went to USC.
The Big Ten has the #1, 2, & 3 largest capacity stadiums for college football, but after that, there’s a HUGE gap in stadium capacities for the fourth largest stadium in the Big Ten. It kinda sums up the Big Ten in football. Three really good teams and everyone else is mediocre at best with some absolutely awful teams at the bottom. Then you have the SEC which has the #4, 5, 6, 8, & 9 largest college stadiums in terms of capacity. In total, there are seven SEC stadiums that are larger than the fourth largest Big Ten stadium, Nebraska’s Memorial Stadium. 4/14 SEC stadiums exceed 100,000 seats 3/14 Big Ten stadiums exceed 100,000 seats. 5/14 SEC stadiums exceed 90,000 seats 3/14 Big Ten stadiums exceed 90,000 seats. 7/14 SEC stadiums exceed 80,000 seats. 4/14 Big Ten stadiums exceed 80,000 seats. 9/14 SEC stadiums exceed 70,000 seats. 7/14 Big Ten stadiums exceed 70,000 seats. 13/14 SEC stadiums exceed 60,000 seats. 9/14 Big Ten stadiums exceed 60,000 seats.
Purdue already completed the latest renovations for its 100th year in Ross Ade, the capacity went up from prior year, though smaller than it was through the 1980s/early 1990s when the last renovation was done.
You are wrong about Rutgers stadium. That stadium gets incredibly loud and is a huge home field advantage when Rutgers has a respectable team. Definitely in the top tier of the Big Ten
How do you not mention the children's hospital and The Wave when talking about Iowa? Yes, it's not a part of the stadium but it adds so much do the environment and experience.
When it comes to BIG football, I want minimalism, just football, I don't want SoFi Stadium amenities or comfort. I want rabid fans, not those complaining about the Wi-Fi, sitting on hard benches, but spending most of the time standing, engrossed in the action on the field. The more "old school" it is, the better for me. Had some of the best times of my life, freezing on November days in Ohio Stadium. If you want the experience to be like your living room, stay home!
beaver stadium in my opinion is the best place to watch a game but just as a stadium alone and not including gameday experience/atmosphere i'd put ohio stadium above it but the renovation will probably make it better and somehow louder with the way they plan on closing the entire stadium
As a Terps fan, I can’t disagree about how annoying the layout is. Our stadium is the result of someone getting too cute with a design just for the sake of being different. It’s never going to get changed because of how many structures are near it, making it too expensive to renovate. If that wasn’t an issue, it would be clear to just finish creating the lower bowl, add another Jumbotron to it, and add another upper deck to make the stadium look normal.
Went to the USC-Idaho game several years ago. It was full but the Coliseum is a dump. The Wisconsin stadium is bigger than what you think, and the Minnesota stadium is a beautiful stadium, 1 of my favorites, from a Hawkeye fan.
2:00 , I watch most of your videos and always notice you hate upper decks , is this only in stadiums that can't fill them? Like do you have NFL upper decks that are always full
Im not saying i agree with him but i can understand the bias. Upper decks tend to offer a dramatic sub standard experience compared to the rest of the stadium, often ruining the sight lines of the back end of the lower deck seats and the concourse (if open air) and they often look like an asymmetrical after thought even when they were part of the design from the beginning
I think there are three obvious tiers 1-6, 7-10, and 11-14. Maryland could ascend to the middle group for maybe even Rutgers if they somehow got back to going 8-4 every year like they did from 05-14. Ditto for Nebraska getting up to the top tier with some strong seasons, just look at that volleyball crowd. I personally like Minnesota as the best of the middle group but the city setting is just way different for tailgating. Agree with the comments on the interior though. And also think Michigan probably deserves a higher spot than OSU, but don't tell my neighbors.
Have you done the big 12 football stadiums yet? Btw Texas Tech is going through a $250 million south endzone project and it’s gonna be Freaking amazing! Guns Up
Maryland stadium was referred to the "Snake Pit" facetiously by ESPN's Reece Davis during their successful stint during 2001-2003. It is actually a great place to see a game, affordable family fun. Compared to the price of the various other Washington, DC area events, which the other B1G members just do not have to compete with. Luckily, our basketball stadium is top tier.
I agree with this list but I do got to say I’ve never been to the big house but I have been to the shoe there is nothing quiet about that stadium even when it’s a blow out.
If you're talking about gameday atmosphere at each stadium then it's too hard to pick the best in the Big10. But if you're talking about quality of the stadium and aspects like line of sight or amenities or ease of movement in the concourse area, then Huntington Bank is easily the best in the big10. It's a phenomenal place in that regard.
Alright let me know what I got wrong: 1) Penn State 2) Nebraska* 3) Michigan* 4) Ohio State 5) Michigan State* 6) Wisconsin 7) Iowa 8) Purdue* 9) Rutgers* 10) Minnesota 11) Illinois* 12) Indiana 13) Maryland 14) Northwestern (The asterisk indicates whether or not I've been there)
@noahpagel2823 Yeah. Probably a bit biased here, but I've been to the big house multiple times and it just doesn't get that loud imo. I've heard the same about Ohio State, so I put us at 2. I think OSU, Nebraska, and UM can be switched around from spots 2 to 4.
@@WestonLong28 Nebraska fans are easily top 3 when it comes to bringing passion to the stands. UM and OSU fans just don’t get into it as much. PSU and UW fans are up there with UNL and passion though.
You're insane if you think Beaver Stadium is anywhere near the top of Big Ten stadiums... Michigan Stadium, the biggest stadium in the country (not just CFB) is a cathedral and arguably CFB's best stadium... let alone in the B1G.
Even though Michigan Stadium is not the loudest, it has a really unique vibe. The fact that it has minimal parking is a feature, not a bug. 1. It is just south of the main part of campus/downtown, so walking in from the north, there is a huge "party parade" like atmosphere before and after games. 2. Just south of the stadium, instead of a parking lot full of cars, it is a golf course full of tailgaters. Love the reuse of that space 6-7 times per year. Really cool tailgating with trees and grass all around. 3. If you go west or east, it is all neighborhoods. Has a "Wrigley" (or European Soccer) kind of feel to it someone in from those directions. Also, Some of us have our "secret spot" to park a 1/2 mile away. One other thing about Michigan Stadium, there is space in the concourse to just hang out on the grass. Even though it holds up to 114K, If you want to just take a break on the North side on the hill, you can. Feels great to be there and hear the crowd and PA system in the background.
The fact that there’s little to no parking within a kilometer of the stadium and maybe further, is not a feature. That’s called awful planning & designing. Plus, single tier large stadiums result in atrocious views for fans that are near the top of the stadium. You’re just so far away at that point, which is why that design has been dead for nearly a century. Tickets at the top of Michigan’s stadium are probably some of the worst views of any football stadium in this country. It’s not solely because it has the largest capacities, Penn State, Ohio State, A&M, LSU, Tennessee, & Alabama all have stadiums that exceed 100,000 and the top of the big house has the worst view possible. Meanwhile, the other six stadiums seem to offer great viewing of the game with none coming close to how far away everything is when at Michigan.
I have to say comparing the rose bowl to memorial stadium of nebraska.. saying their in the same tier is pretty goofy. I bet when the huskers play ucla at the rose bowl.. it's sold out.. and it's a sea of red! The environment of a quarter sold stadium doesn't compare to over 90k strong every college football weekend win or lose! I giggled at having camp Randall over he huskers too, one upper deck looks really appealing let me tell you!
The horseshoe is an awful stadium with awful acoustics and speakers, ads over every single scoreboard, miniscule play clocks hidden inside of the student section for some reason, and I heard seven nation army play every single change of posession, I stopped counting after the number was 20 times played by the third quarter.
@@farriskhan2352 it’s literally the ONLY song that plays, and they play it after EVERY CHANGE OF POSSESSION. It’s completely nauseating especially with their awful speaker system that creates an echo / delay between the stereo of the song and it creates like a half second resonance. Most annoying football game I’ve ever been to 💀
Ohio Stadium is only quiet in the lesser opponent games. It is not quiet when they play Michigan Penn State Wisconsin Michigan State or any other Big Ten team might be in the top 10 that year or undefeated when they play. In non-conference opponent like Oregon, USC A few years back, we played Oklahoma and Texas. Those games are not quiet. They are very loud but when you play Northwestern Toledo yeah they’re not gonna be very loud. They’re expected to win those games it’s for just watching how good Ohio State could be in big games it’s glorified practice.
Not completely true about Huntington having nothing unique. The names of all 87 Minnesota counties are cast in giant stones around the exterior. There is a Minnesota Tribal Nations Plaza outside the main entrance as well. The end-zones in Ohio Stadium are full of students, including a 225-piece brass band, and it’s absolutely deafening.
Beaver stadium ahead of the big house and the horseshoe? I loathe Michigan and OSU but their stadiums are iconic. Think you also have NU and Wisky reversed. List is broadly accurate but your top 5 is slightly off. PSU 5, Wisky 4, NU 3, OSU 2 and Meatchicken 1
@@heartbreak25 it’s still gonna be Ryan Field. This will be along the lines of what happened to Stanford Stadium, which reduced both its footprint and seating capacity.
I’m a Penn state fan and I can’t believe you put beaver stadium at #1. Yes, the atmosphere is definitely #1 but the place is a dump. It needs to be torn down and rebuilt.
We are doing a 700 million dollar renovation, and as far as atmosphere, we are the best by far in the nation, not even close or a photo finish!!!! WE ARE
Rutgers sells this stadium out, including games this past season. Do some research you fool. Want to see the home field advantage, go watch the Rutgers - Louisville game. Hell, they had Penn State on the ropes a few years ago, they beat Michigan in that stadium.
@@noahpagel2823 yet...renovations are coming though...If you have ever been to a basketball game at Rutgers you'll know their venues can turn into a hornet's nest when the teams are good. I've been to every B1G Stadium a few times, and I've been to games at Rutgers Stadium where it's been as loud as anywhere in the country. It's a much more comfortable building than Kinnick and Spartan, It's definitely louder than Michigan Stadium...it doesn't compare though to Ohio Stadium, Beaver, NE Memorial
@@mgmeo Honestly fair. Rutgers b-ball games you can tell are electric, and with those renovations you mentioned I can see it being a part of putting Rutgers Football on the map.
@@upbeatproductions7614 Spartan Stadium being bigger than Kinnick doesn’t make it better. Kinnick has more passion, more traditions, it’s more loud, and just a better environment.
