People saying Alabama didn't play like they normally do, blaming it on Alabama instead of recognizing just how dominant and disruptive Michigan's defense is, completely missed what they were seeing. The Big Ten gets bleeped on because of a lack of high performing offenses by people who completely ignore that the Big Ten is stacked with a different level of defense from what the SEC, Pac 12, and the rest are. When a Big Ten team finally gets a break from the Big Ten, they end up playing a team like Notre Dame. When you are facing Big Ten defenses for most of your season, putting up 400+ yards per game starts to get pretty hard. Michigan completely exposed the SEC with the Alabama game. Putting up points is easy when you are against another team that only knows how to put up points, which is what the SEC is full of. Georgia is the closest thing to real defense the SEC has, and it isn't Big Ten level defense. When Washington's offense gets shut down and their production is half of what they are used to, I eagerly await the tweets where people act confused and try to come up with excuses that help them avoid having to accept that their narrative is being torn down by these teams finally having to face elite Big Ten Defense.

@@AlexTeter I think you misread. I didn't claim Michigan would beat Georgia. I said Georgia defense is the closest thing to Big Ten level defense that the SEC sees. That is a complement for Georgia, though they would be mid to low for a Big Ten defense. And that is based on defensive stats that you can easily look up. Michigan's defense shut down Alabama's offense, exposing that the high offensive outputs of the SEC are against SEC defenses and not what teams in the Big Ten are bringing to the field. Scoring big is easier outside the Big Ten. Just look at Iowa as an example. One of the worst offenses you could imagine but had a winning season because of their defense. And their defense is only mid level for the Big Ten. SEC fans who bleep on the Big Ten because of offensive stats would gain a completely new perspective if their teams regularly went up against Big Ten defenses. They wouldn't even necessarily lose and I am not claiming the Big Ten has the better overall teams. But offensive stats would be heavily impacted for SEC teams if they saw Big Ten defense as a regular part of their season and SEC fans would have to take a moment to figure out how to cope when reality hit and they saw that their offenses only look that much better because they aren't playing Big Ten defenses like all the Big Ten offenses are.
Recruiting doesn't mean much if you can't keep players or coaches. Alabama, like nearly every other dynasty, is crumbling within. You are kidding yourself if you think that the other championship Bama teams don't dogwalk this team like Michigan did. Michigan miscues kept Bama in this game.
Bama played very poor against Michigan. Bama did not have their typical team this year for sure, I mean when Michigan and Washington is in the National Championship that should tell you something. It's simple, The SEC ruled college football and they got tired of it and allowed players to get payed so schools like Michigan could pay the players that were originaly going to go to Bama, Georgia, Clemson etc to come there instead.
I am sick of the so called experts who think one great QB wins games. JJ did the job that was required in all games. As was said by Bo Shchembechler, "it is the team the team the team, the team and Harbaugh said the same damn thing and won...
J.J. McCarthy is a great QB. I can't deny that in the last few games he seems a bit off-target with the sort of passes he delivered perfectly earlier in the season, but I'm not going to let that diminish his skills in my eyes. It also might be a valid criticism of his style that he rifles the ball when maybe a softer touch would make for a pass that a receiver can more easily corral, but at the major college level those receivers are supposed to make those catches. There were at least two horrific drops on key downs that I can recall happening during the Alabama game. J.J is closer to Penix than he is to a game manager like Cade McNamara.

They both didn't play well, but I think Harbaugh outschemed Bama. He's always had some good trick plays. It's just that this time they were able to pull them off.

They keep saying “they almost lost to a bad auburn team” this guy has clearly never watched the iron bowl, or have any idea what a rivalry game is except when it involves Texas, guarantee he brought up the rivalry/anything can happen aspect for them losing red river. Bama beating Georgia was the best win at the time, Bama should’ve been favored and Bama should’ve been in the playoff. Michigan was more physical, better coached and proved they were the better team. Michigan proved that once the NCAA CEO Mark Allen Emmertt left, and Nick Sabin no longer enjoys running rampant doing whatever he wants to win championships and having the NCAA look the other way, Alabama looks pretty much looks like any other college team again. A juggernaut no more, I predict Nick Saban is going to retire soon because having to play fair and not being handed National Championships anymore, just isn’t as fun. It is no small irony that exactly one year after Mark Emmerrt left, and new NCAA President Charlie Baker took over, Alabama has looked terrible. This proves that for the previous 12 years, cheating WAS going on. All Alabama championships since 2010 to present should stripped.

Saban doesn’t cheat. He gets good recruits and uses them to become great. 2011-12 Bama was a defensive power house. 2015 Bama was an amazing special team with great offense and amazing defense. 2018 Bama unbelievable offense. Each player has a pretty good career in the nfl. 2020 Bama blew every team out of the water, it also contain 3 of the top 5 Heisman finalists. And to say they don’t deserve it?

I live in SEC country and see these teams A LOT. Anyone who thought this Alabama team wasnt ripe for the picking wasnt paying attention. They had several games this year where they had to fight to steal a win. Having said that, its still Alabama and you had to be ready to go. Im curious to see how Michigan Defense gets at Penix. Im sure it will be stunts and corner blitzes but the DBs have to read the receivers eyes and get those arms up downfield or there is going to be several big plays. If the coin toss works in Michigan favor, I would go against their norm and take the ball. Lean on the W defense early and get on the board first. If W scores quickly somehow, they put the Defense on the field again. Washington had a lot of close games too.. and that could come back and bite them.
A refreshing. level-headed post from an SEC fan, something that was sorely lacking before the Rose Bowl. I must have read 10,000 posts from Alabama fans and SEC boosters who all predicted a 41-17 sort of blowout win for Alabama. When Michigan got crushed by Georgia two years ago, the coaches admitted that the players tried as hard as humanly possible in that game but came up way short due to being smaller and slower than that great Georgia team. The solution to that issue was to actively recruit for more size and more speed, especially speed, and get the recruits and the players who were coming back into the weight room to put on some additional muscle. The big difference between this year's version of the Wolverines and the 2021 squad is that they are, indeed, bigger and faster, and Alabama had little or no physical advantage this time.
@@Yesquire0 I am a Michigan man living in SEC country. I loved the win, but I didnt rub it in too bad to my Alabama friends. It was a classic game. There are many of us down here from Michigan so we get to see SEC regularly and go out of our way to watch Big10 ball. SEC has more top tier teams, but the top BIG10 teams are more than capable of keeping up with the SEC beasts. My wife is a Vanderbilt fan so.... :D
Both teams had their faults in the bowl game: Michigans Special Teams blunders; and Alabamas terrible Centre to QB snapping connection, and that sieve-like O-Line. Michigan played the overall smarter game and got it done. Alabama cant win it every year. It's healthy for College Football to see new teams compete for the Championship each year
People forget in trashing Michigan's record from last year, 2022, was that the TCU game was a really fun one, even though they lost.........lots of exciting offensive plays by Michigan, went back and forth all game. They played well, but not enough to win (barely).
A lot of respect for this Michigan team. But let’s not get crazy here… the best football team Michigan has fielded in my adult lifetime barely beats one of Saban’s most troublesome Alabama teams in OT. Let’s have just a little perspective.
I absolutely love the way CFB does OT and I truly hope the NFL implements it at some point. I think most people will 100% agree that the current NFL OT implementation sucks. CFB's idea is exciting. I think Rich is in the vast minority on his opinion on this.
Michigan special teams kept Bama in this game . The special teams has been some of the best all year and then they have one of the worst games I’ve ever seen from special teams

No playoff system is going to be perfect. It is a maxim for elite teams to be advised that if they are going to lose a game, lose it early in the season. OSU and Georgia lost late and were left out of the playofffs. Alabama argued "we're greatly improved now" and snuck in. It really isn't a valid way to rate teams on an "A beat B, we beat A, so we are obviously better than A". The better team doesn't always win a game. The football can bounce funny. The winner of the Natty should always be the last team standing undefeated.

Bama beat Bama, that was the same Alabama team that almost lost to auburn, same mistakes, same bad snaps several plays in a row, fumbling the ball without being hit. Alabama should have NEVER even been in this game because they beat Auburn by a miracle and should have had 2 losses. FSU earned that spot and with their NFL quality defense, could have beaten any of these teams with their number 2 QB.
