Hands-down, some of the best CG work in current movies (Hollywood, international, and beyond). The details & clarity of the crash landing is the best I’ve seen in film so far. 👍🏼 Props to the Russians on this beautiful work!!

You totally cannot. Maybe make some of the assets, but just the full-scale simulation of the destruction? The procedural generation? The muscle simulation and rigging of the creatures? Nope. The fluid simulation in blender is fun but it's mickey mouse stuff compared to houdini. Cycles is super cool but it's still a decade behind arnold or vray. So, as it stands today blender cannot come close to this level. Let's hope someday, though.

@@Belfrahn What are you talking about ....this was made with Blender 2.4 a couple of years ago! But seriously what could you not do here in Blender!? This is a low poly scene and basic shapes with bump mapping all over. The smoke simulation can be done with fluid in combination with particle simulation and proper physics settings. Yes It may take a little time to tweak but absolutely doable in Blender 2.79.

I was thinking the same thing. The scenes where they tear away layers of CGI, or when they build the landscape, is a reverse-engineering of actual footage, made in an attempt to make everyone believe the real footage is fake!

And they made it all for an IMAX movie with a production budget of only $3.8 million ($6 million in total). Just shooting it was already more expensive than usual so they had to work with a miniscule budget.

Spectacular! I loved following the story while simultaneously receiving insight into the animation process. And very original aliens and ship. What a super experience! There are so few REALLY good ones out there. I have never seen any better than this, though. This was outstanding, so exciting!

I legitimately looked to this movie for something to draw. Those mechs are SO cool. I know the guy was definitely in a LOT OF PAIN as it literally stitched itself to his body, but man does it still look amazing to watch them move around at inhuman speeds.

I think they took actual footage of an alien invasion and then used CGI to make it look fake so that it wouldn't cause mass hysteria. Also, that was a great example of why a penthouse apartment can be bad for your health.

О, неужто кто-то ценит Станислава Лема? Увы, его экранизировать будут только энтузиасты. Он писал для людей, которым нравится думать. Современные форматы кино не вмещают такой полёт мысли. Представьте себе, как бы изобразили охоту на стадо курдлей? Ну да, смег был бы зрелищным и мы бы наконец-то увидели трёхмерные свистящие сепульки. И всё. Философия? Наука? World Experts Yea probably a lot of companies' plug-ins in maya, nuke, houdini I guess?! very very low chance of after effect. even my uni not allow us to use after effect.. so doubt they would. :)
