@@starcraftyschannel1926 a personality he meant shtick or a gimmick like stone cold is that fuck you hell yeah biker dude and macho man talked about himself in third person and wore big goggles
Except Stone Cold Steve Austin wasn't even thought of in 1989. Stone Cold was mid to late 90s. Uncle Chael never letting the truth get in the way of a good lie.
Chael could've easily made his mark in pro wrestling by going the valet route without having to take any bumps. Would be a worthy counterpart to Heyman.
A lot of the heat on a manager comes from them taking cheap shots, interfering, and talking trash while being obviously physically weaker and more vulnerable. I can't name an athletic manager that was good.
Now I want Chael to be a manager in the WWE. And if he'd try to get in contact with some WWE higher ups, he'd likely get to be one! "ROMAN REIGNS! YOU ABSOLUTELY SUCK! MY CLIENT IS CALLING YOU OUT, ROMAN, AND WE'RE RAISING THE STAKES! HE BEATS YOU, YOU LEAVE FRIDAY NIGHT SMACKDOWN. YOU BEAT HIM, WE LEAVE THE WWE FOREVER"
@@Keikai_Akagi who David Porter says. Sgt Slaughter was still playing the on screen role of commissioner in WWE at this time or was maybe a few months retired from that on screen role, no matter, he certainly wasnt with WCW nor ever trained rookies at their powerplant....theres a Louis theroux episode where louie gets run through his paces at the powerplant by Pittman....its recommended. Also features many cameos by future stars and the full doc features interviews with many WCW stars of that time.
Yeah, the ‘23 years ago’ and the going out of business shortly thereafter as well as Chael’s age at the time... and the actual years the Power Plant operated do certainly point to that.
The trainers name isn't Buddy Lee Parker, its "Sarge" Dewayne Bruch, look up WCW power plant on you tube, it's a 7 minute clip from 1996 and at the 6 minute mark it shows him.
AKA the worst wrestling trainer ever, Dory funk jr and Tom Pritchard had to retrain guys that the sgt had trained because they were so bad (not taught to look after their opponents etc)!
For me, it's the McChicken. The best fast food sandwich. I even ask for extra McChicken sauce packets and the staff is so friendly and more than willing to oblige. One time I asked for McChicken sauce packets and they gave me three. I said, "Wow, three for free!" and the nice friendly McDonald's worker laughed and said, "I'm going to call you 3-for-free!". Now the staff greets me with "hey it's 3-for-free!" and ALWAYS give me three packets. It's such a fun and cool atmosphere at my local McDonald's restaurant, I go there at least 3 times a week for lunch and a large iced coffee with milk instead of cream, 1-2 times for breakfast on the weekend, and maybe once for dinner when I'm in a rush but want a great meal that is affordable, fast, and can match my daily nutritional needs. I even dip my fries in McChicken sauce, it's delicious! What a great restaurant.
"and a guy from jamaica" I know it's not kofi kingston but a part of me want to believe it is. edit: I just looked it up, kofi is from ghana... but a part of me want to believe chael thought he was from jamaica ... (If it was kofi which I know it wasn't but a part of me still want to believe it is )
Kofi could have been the right age and he started out with the Jamaican gimmick, even before WWE. You’d think that if it was him then Chael would have said it was him or at least hinted the guy was also in college and finished that before pursuing wrestling but went on to have a successful career? So, I’m guessing it isn’t him as it might be just a little bit early as I’ve never heard any mention of it before.
@@diamondback4522 OVW, for quite some time, being WWE’s developmental territory - and, for the most part, being more professionally run than the Power Plant. Even with Cornette screaming in your face or giving you a slap - you’d still get better training there than at the Power Plant. That worked on the old school mentality that they didn’t want to let outsiders in to the industry so they just beasted them until they quit. Some of wrestling’s biggest stars, in both senses, would have never made it if the ‘skills’ you needed were what Buddy Lee Parker thought you needed. Around the time of The Power Plant WCW had The Giant (Big Show) and Big Van Vader while WWE had Bam Bam Bigelow and Yokozuna. Andre and Hogan would have never made it. Success is 80% entrance, 15% promo skills, 4% work rate and 1% luck. Don’t critique those figures, I wouldn’t be able to defend them - but a charismatic wrestler with a catchy entrance is likely to enjoy more success than a bland wrestler with excellent work rate. That’s not even getting in to the complexities of match storytelling/ring psychology in terms of putting on a match that tells a story versus a match that’s all high risk spots. Look at how much more successful AJ Styles got after developing in to one of the better talkers in the industry compared to when he was just one of the best workers - much more broad appeal to casual fans.
Chael I would really appreciate if you just upload the full podcast video, after you have your week of uploads for your episode to catch your views/opinions on topics(it's a source of income and a part of the job I get it), but I would love to just watch the full vids without only being able to listen to the audio on apple podcasts and other places as well
I hate that Chael wasn’t able to break into the business. He’s got more professional wrestling ability than many of the guys in it today. Mic skills are phenomenal.
I applied for the MTV show around that time haha. Was hoping the college AA thing would help... Was a reality show filming around then. Actually connected with you around that time and asked about training. Think you invited me to come on down with you and Dan, Randy:)
Even tho Uncle Chael is the greatest athlete of all time, he would’ve been an even better WWE superstar. With his talent in the mic and athletic ability he would’ve been a major star
Woulda been cool to see him in both, you can tell dude's got "it" for pro wrestling, the legit aspect of his background is just icing on the cake. Here's the problem tho, it wouldn't have worked out in WCW and he most likely would've been so frustrated by their shenanigans that he would've quit to MMA full time anyways. They woulda put him in a Scorpion Mortal Kombat Halloween costume, called him Centa Pede and have him low carding against Glacier.
Chael's finisher woulda actually broke peoples necks. Would've made stone colds stunner look like he was giving the other guy a neck massage by comparison.
