This was 10 years ago, and with all the improvements in technology and what not, my university couldn't explain it as good as you did in 2024, in fact no where near as good. You are a hero Eddie! Thank you for your work sir :)

To get the value of dy/dx as du and du will cancel each other.

Can't we just treat y as a power function and use the d/dx(fⁿ(x)) = n*fⁿ¯¹(x)*f'(x)?

That's exactly what he did, but replacing the inside with a u makes it seem neater and therefore makes it feel easier to solve. Then you just replace u with what you started with
