This is a great video. I have a Granberg Mill with a Husqvarna Saw. I followed your instructions and even found the same winch on Amazon. It assembled easily and works fantastic. The cuts are smoother and it is much easier to control the feed. Thank you.

I adapted this idea and fitted a cheap strap winch to my Small Log Mill. It works well with just a light finger pressure to turn the handle. I added two 2kg weights to the back of the mill to help keep it more stable.

Love idea, I will have to add this to my Panthermill 2 and pass your video onto others! Definitely makes the basic chainsaw mill like a Logosol mill as far as the feed mechanism. Great job, Thanks again for this great idea!

That is a really cool set up indeed, just one tip though. When loading the rope onto the drum if you took the handle off and gripped the shaft with that cordless drill on your bench there it would be a lot quicker. On my mill I added a push bike brake hand lever and cable to operate the throttle, it just makes it a bit more comfortable to operate.

I noticed with mine the back of the mill was just slightly raised off the log when I was winching it. So I lowered the winch line to make it more even with the front of the bar. At least in theory it should have reduced the drag.

I have been using granberg mills for many years and cant believe you have no aux. oiler installed! Its a must to install one as you need extra oil on dry and coarse wood. the oilers on the chainsaw isnt enough.

Late to the party but I’m wondering if he needs an aux oiler seeing as he has two power heads, one on each end of the bar.

Need a thick flat washer the size of the u-channel on the bolt heads so it won't damage the channel and it will make the winch more stable.

I like the winch. I remember doing but just how to explain would be the hard part... we stuffed a volkswagen engine on a set up similar to the alaska mill and it was fast but it would break chain bad. So we ran new chain on the volks and then when it was down ah thirty percent of tooth .... we never used all the tooth cause they are way too dangerous. They will really cut good when they are ready to be thrown out... just whiskers of a tooth and then it gets a second wind I guess so we ran the last part usable on the chainsaw heads

Hi mate, I would start with the saw you have it will be fine. Have a look at Chainsawbars.co.uk pls mention me. Work out what the largest trunks you have and get a mill that size it can be shortened to work with your current saw and then extended if you get a bigger saw. I hope that helps. Blaise

Now get a good quality 1/2 inch cordless drill that you can modify with a rheostat to control the speed (You will need to make a jig to hold the drill) and mount it to the winch. Now you will get an even smoother job, faster with less 'I'm exhausted' errors

Bloody Lifesaver!!! I have a 36" chainsaw mill and tennis elbow. I'm hoping you can help fella, I have a big 1m wide oak log to mill - big enough it can't be turned to work/saw with the 36" bar/mill. So I'm going to buy a 42" bar for my MS661 but I ned to extend the mill, I have a very similar mill as the one in you video and was wondering where I could buy the aluminium bars that make up the cutting width of the chainsaw mill, the part you bolted down the hand winch to any ideas? Also will any hand winch fit? Couldn't ping me a link of the one you purchased could you please? Thanks for this vid, the pain this will spare me!!!! :))
