Man, this song gets me choked up sometimes. haha It's just so pure and beautiful, I just get so moved in it's beautiful message. Such a pure loving message, sung so vulnerably and human. ❤
The song was written by David Foster, and the instrumental version of it which is on his debut solo album, is named "Chaka". Her soaring vocals here are so great! All the way from her days in the band Rufus, she's been incredible. Keyboards and piano played by Foster; who produced the track; and guitar solo was played by the great session guitar player Michael Landau.
I LOVE Chaka Khan and this one of my favorite ballads. She has such a powerful and expressive voice with fantastic control and phrasing and I love how she changes her tone depending on the song or phrasing.
She has one of the most powerful and amazing female voices of all time! I like most of her material, including when she started out by being the lead singer of Rufus!
A truly gifted vocalist with range and power. I remember seeing her in concert and she left the crowd speechless. Her early work with Rufus was also good. Truly one of the best female vocalists from the seventies to present.
@@LarryFleetwood8675 No wonder with Carol Kane & Wallace Shawn in the cast, (aka The Princess Bride fame) paying homage to Busby Berkeley musicals of the 30s noted for the elaborate dancing-girl extravaganzas that he created on film
@@LarryFleetwood8675 Unless you enjoy musicals most people wouldn't appreciate or be aware of it's significance, they've become a long lost art form. Costs would be too prohibitive for such an extravaganza today.
I love "Time After Time", but imo this song is WAY better than Lauper's hit. Just the production alone beats out "Time", and then you add the range and vocal versatility of Khan, and "Through The Fire" will win out every time.
Whomever the composer is, it takes a singer, such as Chaka Khan, to bring the song to be heard and rewarded. And I'm saying this because in some of the comments, much credit (in some comments all the credit) is given to the composer and hardly any to Chaka. He could have given the song to somebody else, but there is a damn good reason why Chaka Khan was given the song.
I can listen to Chaka sing this all day this is in my top ten love songs of all time, her vocals are unmatched period ..passion unmatched.been a fan of hers since she was with Rufus.....And on my 6 speaker Bose sound system in my Vette cruising up PCH ...Heaven!...Shes on my Mt. Rushmore of female singers..Along with Donna, Aretha, Dionne, Whitney, Minne, Phyllis & Natalie & Sarah, Yvonne...LOL Its a big mountain I know..😂
@@jessieball6195 you will absolutely get no argument from me on that. I play Chaka second only to Aretha Franklin. I was responding to the Mt. Rushmore list of female singers. I would probably replace Whitney, or certainly Natalie with Patti. That’s all I was saying. Cause Chaka is A GOAT! No doubt!
Written by Tom Keane, Cynthia Weil and David Foster. Produced by and piano 🎹 by David Foster. In an interview, he says he never writes lyrics: he only writes music. 1 of the best songs sung by Chaka Khan. 😃 Suggested next song: Rufus featuring Chaka Khan sings Ain't Nobody. Cover of Through the Fire 🔥. Gigi de Lana.
Hola de argentina con saludos cordiales , eres lo más con tus reacciones , te felicito y seguí así querida amiga con música de los dorados 80s eres hermosa y muy muy sencible
why would you stop before the song ends?!? my favourite solo chaka song by far! great with rufus and also loved her on steve winwood's "higher love" - her vocals give energy and gravitas on that wonderful song.
@@Lovejazz01 it's kind of an adult song. So unless you knew it then, then you probably were not exposed to it by your parents, as would only be played by your parents late at night in private. Not something you would hear on the radio in the daytime either.
@@donaldgilbreath4200 well a lot of RU-vidrs have reacted to Through The Fire, and they always say how much they love Chaka Khan and need to go down the “ rabbit hole “ of her music and explore more, yet most of them never do anything from when she was with Rufus (“ who is Rufus?” They ask 😄) , so they don’t know that she was a funk queen that was the feisty lead singer of a Funk band, they just think she had a few good pop hits from the 80’s , one has to wonder if they just depend on the RU-vid “ algorithm “ to find music or do they go and find more music themselves, I think it’s the former. Besides Sweet Thing was even bigger than Through The Fire, most know Sweet Thing as one of her signature songs… just curious, that’s all.. 🤷🏽♂️
I tell you what brother I can remember saying this I'm about the same age by the way LO with both old this dark brother alright alright but Hey yeah I remember back in the day saying it's like chocolate cowgirl on the TV on the TV chamber you know you know eighties 81

Yawn. I was able to guess the exact year this was made by the drums and synth sound. Bad trend at the time. Chaka Khan's voice deserved a better song than this.
@@Lovejazz01 I was laughing at his insane comment, he can't change the success of this song and the millions who love it. This is WITHOUT doubt one of the greatest love songs ever.
@@ronaldw548 I guess they should’ve had RU-vid back in the 80’s so he could comment on how bad this song was when it was released, maybe because of his respected opinion it would have been a fail. And yeah, drums and Synth sounds was a hot trend in the 80’s, it was not the 70’s.
