The cha-cha is a peppy, light-footed dance. If you’ve seen “Dancing with the Stars,” then you’ve seen the cha-cha. It’s one of their favorites. Created in 1950s Havana, Cuba, this dance has always been a favorite among high class society. During the 1940s, so close to the East coast of the United States, Havana, Cuba, became an extremely popular resort city for many North-Americans. As a result, famous Jazz bands from the U.S. and native Cuban bands who played at the casinos in the city mixed Jazz and the Rumba. This created the Mambo! Among the Mambo dances was one called “chatch.” By the 1950s, the “chatch” developed into a basic step accompanied by variations in the steps. This became know as the “cha-cha.” Often, in old and some new movies set in Havana, you see performers in the middle of a ballroom floor performing for the tourists or classy guests sitting at tables around the floor. The cha-cha resembles the salsa step with a little interruption in the middle. In the cha-cha, the follow mirrors the lead as the couple rocks back and forth from one foot to the other. After rocking back, the couple does a chasse, three steps, to the side and then repeats the sequence on the other foot.

Oh wow Chris!!! I am so surprised and pleased you cannot imagine!! This song is outstanding, sexy and rich in soul and rhythm. I love the Cubano pictures u included and the b&w footage of Kari Kento is superb!! The woman with the cigar is so Deep Cuban it struck me. I've got friends that believe in Santerismo. Me gusto mucho mi gato bailando La Pachanga. The movement is all in the tail honey!!! Vamos a bailar y gozar la musica y abrazar el espirtitu! This is one Shaweeeeet upload!!! My Spanish is by memory and not correct. A remnant of a once well spoken language I had studied for years. Do you know the movie documentary The Cuban Social Club? I'm sure u must with your background. That is the flavor I'm getting from these special uploads you have been doing and this one is the "it"

***** Yeah , we saw the Buena Vista S.C. movie ( from director Wim Wenders ) back in the nineties . I remember very well the personages such as Compay Segundo , Ruben Gonzales , Ry cooder ...I need to admit , i'm very influenced by them , because that movie and those musicians showed the normal Cuban way of living , seen by real people , instead of " tourist trap" shows , and show dancing contests .I easely could choose the so called sexy dancer pictures ( they are all over the place when searching pictures ) . I rather like to show real people , living in the streets of Havanna or Trinidad , and having their own pleasure , and their very own way of living .

Let's face it. The only way to do jsutce and respect the culture of the music and the music if the culture is to depict it with accuracy. The tourist pictures are hollow and are a money making part but not the core part of the true day to day life. That's what I love about the stuff you do. You always use great source material for your music. Santerismo is a type of Spiritualism based on a blend of the Catholic religion and contacting the spirits of the deceased. There are African influences mixed in. Calling the spirits and becoming the medium to recieve them, calling to ask for things Eric. The cigar smoking and rum drinking is often used to invoke the nature of one of the spirits. It's very interesting.

***** I don't have a degree in sociology , but i reckon the relation ships you've mentionned ( Santerismo ) . Although i hadn't any clue why Cuban woman smoked those cigars . It just fascinated me for long time . I will think of it next time i'm sipping of a Rum Punch . LOL . ( those cigars are to expensive here ) .You must spend quite some time in Spanish Harlem , i guess . ( i was just searching for music relationships and came into that area -- Singer Kari Kento was once married to Tito Puente , which was born NYC ,from Puerto Rican parents , spending his childhood in Spanish Harlem . Kari Kento , also born from Puerto Rican parents , landed in Belgium finally , and to make the circle , she was the Chakachas singer for many years , and Chakachas played Puente-alike music - type in in the search bar Tito Puente , and you'll hear the similarity ) .
