It did sink or settle, because of the thin layer it was in it basically settles just below the surface. I think this is why the color shift is much more reserved vs painted on the outside. The layer of resin over the mica removed the reflection/refraction effect of the light so you don't see the color shift. If you check out the video on the Easy Kid Friendly Resin Keepsake a similar effect happens with the glass.
