Here is a quick overview of a Champion Dual Fuel 7000-Watt Generator. It's pretty spiffy as it can run on either Gasoline or LPG.

I pay $20+ per propane tank here in CA so at $9 where your at is definitely the way to go. Plus the propane won't go bad on you and safer to store. Thanks!

Paid $23 the other day in NC. at a Food Lion Supermarket. They're usually high on everything. Sam's Club is usually ridiculously low in Greenville, NC. If you ever see this. I hope your last four years have been good for you and yours. RICH

Oh sht. When using fossil gas, of course, gumming up is not an issue. WATER IS!!!. NGpriduces two H2O molecules for every one molecule of NG burned. Ya gotta get that outta there. I run gasoline for about 30 minutes after a couple of hours on propane, to drive out the water. Your not just gonna get rust, you're gonna get mold/mildew. Rust gets in everywhere because it will travel around as a vapor. It's now humidity. Well the clean up for mold is usually worse. It's certainly not flakey. It's slimey/gummy. And it's a carcinogen. Not just the black one, which is the worst, but the other colors too. You don't want it on your skin, and you certainly don't want to breathe it. Your lungs are breeding ground. All you need to grow mold is moisture, temp of 40 degrees F, and dirt. Their food is in the dirt. Nothing dirtier than all the stuff floating around in the air we breath. Nobody around here wears masks when working on any gas fueled stuff. Most houses til about 20 yrs ago were being built into all electric homes. Now, some of the surrounding towns have NG, but not everyone. I'm pretty danm sure there's less BTU in Propane than NG, so your gonna burn more propane than NG. and certainly more than gas. I could probably do the figuring for how much more water for propne tha NG, but who cares. All you need to remember is that its 2 to 1 coming out of propane. HS chemistry and physics were not my best subject. Now I use that stuff all the time, so I might be as good as a beginning sophomore college guy. No matter. Just be careful with that stuff. I'd rather hear you had to buy a new generator than you were dying of lung cancer from mold killed my brother. It got into a tube they installed for dialysis. Went to the heart, went in the blood., went to the brain, bingo. Dead in less than a week. Nothing they could do. A "Bread Type" mold. It was all around his apartment, heavy in his bathroom, crazy heavy in his heating ducts. If you ever go to clean up mold, diluted bleach is recommended by some. I'd never do that. Spray mold, especially the black one, you'll see the spores shoot out into the air. Looks just like a particular seen in the first Star Wars. Mold is a world wide epidemic, although rarely talked about. Heavily insulated housed conserve on heating and cooling cost, but they're now sealed up like a box. Nothing gets in, nothing gets out. Three complete air changes with 40 to 50 percent is more than you want, but if bring it down into the 30's, wood drys out and starts splitting. Balance is everything. The solution to solution is dilutions. Works for a lot of stuff. Even life. You'll get the hang of thar one. Ain't gonna tell you about it. When ir pops into your brain, you'll "hear" it. Wish I had time to send this kinda stuff but I just don't have the time. So hopefully, today I helped u, yours., and anyone you care to. Just give the concepts, the facts only mean stuff to me. The concepts are what's important. With a little bit of HS knowledge and practice, concepts will give you formulas you don't need. Just "Clean, Mean. & No Green!!!. We good?

Hey Excellent video and opinions. I checked your other videos out on the portables. You would think they would invest in better inverters. It’s nice to see a dual setup. That’s a Honda clone motor. So most of Honda Parts could be used. The carburetor is the really only part that gums up.
@crazyjdkid
@crazyjdkid 6 лет назад
Yeah! It really upsets me that they both failed with so little hours, just outside there warranty. That's why they lost my business. The dual fuel set up is really nice, and you can actually order kits online to convert most generators as well. Gumming up the carb was probably the most concerning thing for me, but with running it on propane I think should avoid most of those issues. Thanks for watching!

It will run off of natural gas, but it will require a natural gas regulator as the propane regulator is different. It will not run off of natural gas connected to the factory propane regulator. Add the second regulator fairly inexpensively and enjoy a tri-fuel generator.

As long as you have no gas in fuel line and carb when it's not being used. I use SEAFOAM, and when done, i shut off gas and let engine run out, the drain to make sure no gas is left in the carb. I start my 2 gens every 2 to 3 months and they start everytime.. get urself a note book, keep track of hours run so u know when to change oil. make sure air filter is also properly serviced it makes a much bigger difference than you know.. if u have nat. gas and in an emergency situation, blizzard tropical storm, I wouldn't worry about emissions.

I can't suggest them just yet, I need to see how it holds up first! If it hold up well, then I would be happy to suggest it. The fact that it runs on LPG is really nice for storage. 4000 Watts can power quite a few things in your house. Thanks for watching!

ur welcome :) u can get them 4 cheap.. the north stars r over 1K..
@crazyjdkid
@crazyjdkid 6 лет назад
Why the only reason why the NorthStar ones are so expensive is because they have Honda engines on them. Honda engines are practically bullet proof. Honda actually makes entire generators themselves too, they are way more expensive then the NorthStar. But they are so quiet you can barely hear them running.Just a little 2000 Watt generator from Honda is like $1,100.

Thanks for the video. Like the propane option but based on the run time you get from a 5 gallon cylinder it looks like it is going to be much more expensive to run for extended periods of time than using gasoline?
@crazyjdkid
@crazyjdkid 4 года назад
Yes and no. It depends on how cheap you can get propane. Here its ~$9 to refill that tank. And since we have a propane grill we always have it so we always have some fuel for the generator at almost any given time. Really we prefer the propane so we don't have to worry about stale fuel and storing it, gumming up the carb etc. It is always there as an option though it we need it. I believe you could possibly tap into your houses natural gas line and run it off that as well.

Hello sir, how does the Champion Dual Fuel 7000 Watts hold up over the years? I am planing to get one from Costco but don't know anyone in my family and friend circles owning a Champion generator. So, just curious about its reliability.
@crazyjdkid
@crazyjdkid 4 года назад
Well, it really hasn't had much use until recently. It ran for about a day a few weeks ago after the power lines were knocked down. Ran flawless with no issues, and that is better than what I can say for the Generac. Long term it's hard telling but it is holding up pretty well and still starts right up. I do only run it on propane, to keep the internals clean. Almost all Genertors now days are sourced from China, that said the Champion brand machines seem to be a higher quality China than the rest of them. No complaints so far.

Can you run this unit 24/7 with a refrigerator and some appliances?

Probably not advisable. You would need to do oil changes and what not.
@ACommenterOnYouTube
@ACommenterOnYouTube 5 лет назад
The manufacturer will say NO but people do it all the time... Especially when a natural disaster hits and the power in the city is out for days... At that time you WILL see people run their generators 24/7 .. My brother in law ran his for 8 straight days NON STOP .... Yea he did change the oil before the hurricane hit just in case and he changed it after ... But he said it ran solid for 8 days ...
@crazyjdkid
@crazyjdkid 5 лет назад
I was thinking more along the lines of off grid where it runs all year long non stop. It can absolutely run for a week straight as long as you can fuel it and do oil changes on it.
@ACommenterOnYouTube
@ACommenterOnYouTube 5 лет назад
@@crazyjdkid it all depends on how well its built ... Doubtful it was built to run 24/7 all year round ... Your talking about a generator built for a single purpose, to provide temporary power ... Not power 24/7 for a year .. If you tried, if would probably last a few months IF LUCKY before something internal within the engine breaks apart ...

How much fuel does it consume if you run it closer to idle rather than 50%?
@crazyjdkid

It will not produce power at idle. This engine has to be at full speed to be able to produce the 60Hz needed for the electricity.

Generac makes lousy residential generators from portable to back up type. I do not understand the desire to use propane in home situations. The tanks and fuel are expensive and in a disaster situation such as a hurricane the propane supply is hit harder than the gasoline supply as there are more gas stations than propane fill establishments. The tank shown is about $35 and holds 4.7 gallons or about $18 you have about six hours of run time with that tank. This type of generator is not safe for sensitive electronics, this unit does not produce a pure sine wave. Use non ethanol gasoline if stored properly two years is the shelf life.
@crazyjdkid
@crazyjdkid 4 года назад
Propane is an important fuel for backup generator. It gives you flexibility in fuel options. Everyone usually has a propane tank laying around for there grill so its not extra fuel you will have to store. I don't know where you are located but here to fill a propane tank like that is about $9 not anywhere near $18. The oil stays cleaner longer and I can hook it up to natural gas off the house if need be in a pinch. So there is a lot of logic in having propane as a backup,and I can always run it on gasoline if I need to as well since it is dual fuel. The less gasoline you run the more likely it is not to have carb problems, fuel leaks, gasket and hose deterioration.
@TheMickeymental
@TheMickeymental 4 года назад
@@crazyjdkid I am not disagreeing with you about propane being an alternative source of fuel it is just more expensive. I live in a major city and people have different criteria and the prices for propane here are about $4 per gallon. As I stated in my situation propane was impossible to find during the last three hurricanes while gasoline was abundant. One store I use had gone through 30,000 gallons of propane in two days and did not know when they would be resupplied. I use the Honda EU2200i and I was out of power for seven days once and then three days and used the generator for 48 hours while using 5 gallons of gasoline. I don’t think everyone has a propane tank lying around; my neighbor did not have a match to light a candle. In your situation propane seems like a great alternative. I had a Kohler 8.5 hip. generator a few years ago and to switch from propane to natural gas I would have needed to change carburetor jets, hopefully yours is set up for both fuels. People how do not have the natural gas option should not depend upon one twenty pound tank to get through an emergency or disaster situation. The problem with carburetors gumming up is lack of proper maintenance and using ethanol gasoline which I never use in a generator. In my many years of operating generators I have never had a seal or gasket go bad, but I am very finicky about maintenance. Best wishes to you and I hope you never have to use your generator in an emergency or disaster situation.
@crazyjdkid
@crazyjdkid 4 года назад
@@TheMickeymental This generator can switch fuels without any modifications, all you do is turn a knob to switch from gaseous fuel to liquid fuel. So I can use either fuel. I believe it can run natural gas through the propane line as well, just haven't tried it. All I am pretty much getting across is that it is a dual fuel generator that I can choose what fuel I use and switch at any time depending on what is available. I generally have 3 LPG tanks and 20 gallons of gas at my house at any given time for other machines. I use the LPG first as I don't store it with fuel and I don''t want to have fuel stored in it. Honda generators are great, and you could easily add a Trifuel kit to yours too. I have about 40 pieces of outdoor power equipment and the less I have to maintain and ensure the fuel is stabilized the better. Preferably I would rather have a diesel above anything else, which I do have as well. This generator has seen some use recently after a tornado in the area droppped some power lines, ran great and got better than advertised fuel usage. Thanks for watching!
@TheMickeymental
@TheMickeymental 4 года назад
@@crazyjdkid I looked up generators and the dual fuel are gasoline and propane. The trifuels are gasoline, propane and natural gas. Diesel generators are usually larger more expensive generators. If you are depending upon your generator to use natural gas you may want to investigate whether yours will or will not accept natural gas. As I stated the Kohler I owned needed to have a different jet. Also with propane you will be getting less energy as it requires 1.38 gallons of propane to equal 1.0 gallons of gasoline. I am not sure if that will shorten your run time or cause you to use more fuel. I found that to be interesting. The Hondas presently are sold out at a lot of online site especially the 2200i. The corona virus along with the wildfire problems in California have caused a price spike. What state so you live in?
@crazyjdkid
@crazyjdkid 4 года назад
@@TheMickeymental Yes, but I highly doubt that there is much difference in burning the propane vs natural gas mechanically wise besides a significant power drop. The propane does have slightly lower run time, at 50% load your looking at 5.5-6 hours for one 20lb tank. It uses about 1.3 gallons of gasoline per hour under 50% load. It's a thirsty machine no matter what way you look at it as it is not an inverter unit that can throttle down. It runs 3600 RPMs as soon as it starts. This was filmed in Alabama, but live in Texas. I am actually a mechanical engineer, for a large industrial diesel engine manufacturer so I am pretty fluent in engines and air/fuel ratios!
