I've had my eye on Musetti for years, and in Hamburg he fulfilled my expectations. I love his game, which is similar to Federer's--one-handed backhand, elegant movement, spot serving, etc., and the similarity extends to his persona--charming, calm, endearing.

Not sure i liked his demeanor after the double bounce ball. He clearly knew he had lost the point , but celebrated at first before walking back quietly when Carlos protested vehemently .Ironically what should have been 30-30 became 40-15 in his favor and prompted Carlos to play his best tennis of the whole match and break his serve and eventually win the second set.

@@krishnaramachandran7722 In moments like these, even though It might not be ethical, you can't allow yourself to be compassionate towards the opponent. This match was extremely important for Musetti and I don't really blame him, after all It was primarily the umpire's fault.
@krishnaramachandran7722
@krishnaramachandran7722 2 года назад
@@andrealeoni43 Carlos has already done that a few times. He has conceded some points and has also agreed to replay the point in a tight match against Hurkacz at Miami when the umpire wrongly called " Not up" . Hurkacz protested even though he didn't put the ball back in court. Carlos agreed to replay the point because Hurkacz was arguing he was distracted by the wrong call and so he could not put the ball back in court. At Miami, carlos had only won Umag and Rio. So there's never a right or wrong moment to do it , because replays will clearly show what happened. I don't recall any of the big 3 doing this either.

I’ll always watch Rafa and Novak, obviously. But Alcaraz and Musetti are by far and away my pick of the rest. I see nothing stopping Alacaraz from ruling the show in a couple of years. But Musetti is someone who could rise to the level needed to trouble Carlos and even beat him now and then. Both such dynamic, powerful, artistic players. And nice guys too. Exciting times in tennis. Goodbye baseliners and welcome all court tennis. Like it was meant to be played.

I think Musetti is yet to do well on grass and hard courts. We will have to watch him next month at US open. He has earned an entry in to the Main draw with this win. Carlos seems to favour the hard court more than clay. I say this because I have seen him get broken pretty regularly on clay whereas on hard he was a bit more solid with serves. He also served well at Wimbledon in the early rounds.

In Italy there it's a no-no to build muscles in the gym before 19 yo if you are a pro tennis player. I have the feeling that both Sinner and Musetti have recently started to increase their load for power and strength. Carlos has taken the bulking up route very early which pays off when you are 18-19 but it may not be great for the long term- we shall see. This being said, I am not sure Musetti has the fitness to play that well for 5 sets. Maybe needs another year or two

Excellent match and full credit to Lorenzo. At last, he looks like the player who took Novak to 5 sets. He was way more aggressive than Carlos on most rallies and played very tough opponents all week long. Carlos should be aggressive, but give himself some margin over the net and not always go for the lines. I did not see the kind of controlled but brutal aggression he produced against Krajinovic in the tie break against Lorenzo. He was passive on many occasions and made several unforced errors at other times.
