Hitting this backhand -> on a match point -> for the trophy of the French Open -> against Novak must be one of the most satisfying points ever. And he celebrated it in such a humble way! Kudos to Stan the man.
He's awesome. Stan the Man. I'm always mesmerized when I see him doing down the line at will. Especially match point down? 😯 Amazing.. How much belief for a low-percentage shot.
He is top 1, not just one of top 3. Way better than Federer and Gasquet. He is the only one who is not afraid of Novak's overload on backhand, while Federer is so prone to that. His offensive backhand is in much higher level than Federer's
@@minhtrinh5981 imo it's somewhat similar to Federer's backhand, but on a lot of steroids, more power and much harder to overload while retaining most of the beauty on the swing.
His one handed BH is exceptional, 10 out of 10 for beauty, power, depth & accuracy, under attacked passing shot backhand winners is his greatest weapon..
It is indeed like playing and or watching someone with two forehands. A killer shot. If I could have anyones backhand from any generation of tennis, it would be Stan's. It's the best.
Fantastic video! highlighting the fact that Stan has the best one handed backhand in the world! It's sheer offensive power is a weapon that no other player has ever matched. Stans accuracy is also incredible whilst launching a force of power so immense that the ball still manages to land in court. These skills are just not human and Stan deserves all the praise he gets. Us tennis fans are lucky that Stan is displaying these incredible skills for us to all watch in awe! Stan has proven to the world that a one handed backhand can be an immense weapon against the best of the best! He is awesome! & so unique.
What amazes me is that. I can hit a great 1 hander if the ball is exactly 2 feet of the ground with minimal top spin. Stan can hit any ball ever hit across the court with his.
Stan has the best power backhand, I'll have to admit that as a Federer fan. Roger has more shoulder rotation and thus his backhand is more focussed on spin. Stan's racket face on the other hand more so drives through the ball as his wrist opens up more.
Most powerful I think for sure, but who else can do those little flick bh winners like Federer? I would still give it to Roger for versatility and effectiveness. Bonus: Gasquet is far and away the most aesthetically pleasing. Imo.
Most powerful is Thiem. Stan has great placement, but I don't know if it's physically possible to generate more power than Dominic. He is like a spring loaded whip that unloads on the ball
AO Final 2014 first set set ball! Absolute incredible back hand return! If you don't have insert it, this would be missed very much! And he can wear terrifying shorts while he makes one of the best long line passing shots! 😇👍
Anyone who knows anything about tennis will agree that Stan's is the best one handed backhand in history. The shot at 6:35 is still the greatest shot I've ever seen.
A video i totally agree on. His backhand is a work of art and absolutely majestic. The one handed backhand is a dying race for reasons i have no idea why. Sad
@@geemy9675 Federer's backhand was the reason that he lost to Nadal else he was better than Nadal in every aspect. On his comeback in 2017, his backhand was massive improvement and Nadal couldn't cope up with him in AO.
He probably has been practicing that since he was 14. Some people start with a two and then switch over to a one. He probably started with a one, so in those formative years, he really got to dial it in.
He also has tge ability and guts to go for those 1HB winners at important points even when doen break point ,set point ehich is low percentage which distinguishes him from federer
His backhand was most powerful especially his ability to hit downthe line when other 1HB players would go cross court. He struggled against nadal for sMe reasons as federer. He didn't do well against federer though except in RG 2015 where he blew fed away
Actually, there is still a lot of debate regarding the best 1 hander ever. I think a lot of people get it twisted when it comes to Stan's 1hander. Sure, he can win points with it. He went toe to toe with peak Djokovic, after all. As a pure winning shot, it's surely up there with the best of the best. In terms of variety, though, how is it any better than Rogers? The block return, the chip and charge return, the short crosscourt slice, the neutralizer, the flicks, halfvolleys etc etc. The list is endless. As an overall weapon, Roger's backhand clears.
All this loop winded answering, NO roger doesn’t have a bh as good as stan. If Roger had stan’s bh, he would have won at least 5 more slams, if not 10 more
@@numbersindia5312 that's not true though. Wawrinka can't flick or half volley to save his life which Roger can. You think without that prestine ability he would have won anything with just his forehand?
@@TvRFReloadedjust forehand?? Are you a tennis player?? Not to brag, but i am a usta 5.0, roger has practically the best serve fh volley, early take, run around inside out shots, there is a lot in his game that made him with a weak bh, but that doesn’t mean his pre 2017 bh was ok, flick bh, cmon, that worked with sub standard players, not with the best. Again, he was repeatedly bullied on his bh side and his flick or half volley did not help him, while they look ok, his bh would barely hold up for more than 4-5 straight baseline rallies, if he had stan’s technique on the bh and the upper body strength to pull it off, i really doubt if nadal and novak would have even beaten him once
@@numbersindia5312 well it was basically me just pointing out the flaw in your argument. All good and well that stan has incredible technique and upper body strength. But he doesn't posses any of the defensive ability Roger has on the backhand side and if you are going to ask me if i play, then surely, as someone who plays at a decent level, you would know just having a powerful backhand isn't going to cut it. Or else Stan would have definitely won more than 3 slams 1 measly masters title. Don't forget besides Novak, Roger has the most wins against Rafa of any other player. Nadal bullied Roger on clay while picking and choosing his battles off it and thus got into Roger's head. Stan has only 1 real win over Rafa and that was against the worst version of him in 2015. That 1 set in the AO final means fuck all tbh. Just look at their 2017 RG final. That was peak wawrinka getting a beating similar to Roger's 2008 defeat. More variables come into play with their backhands and Federers backhand is far more useful for varying situations hence his overall success against all the different generations he faced.
Greatest "one handed" backhand ever? How about just the greatest backhand ever! Period. If you watch his game and movement on the court he had no business reaching top 10 let alone top 5 in the world! He won 3 slams with his backhand. Truly Incredible! (I guess it helped when he pointed at his head too)
Very good motion. And he digs his feet in. And coming in at the ball with a bit of racket head speed. Crushes the ball into submission That he has a bit of extra muscle in his Back really gives it bit of speed. I call him Stan the stupid man 😅
very beautiful his stroke but he does not trust it inside-out for a reason... (not enough spin+power combo plus timing becomes low-percentage). Nobody has an inside-out backhand as brutal+heavy+precise as gonzo's inside-out forehand. That should be the litmus test for backhands. Only nalbandian got anywhere near a few times.
Yes, Stan's down the line backhand is the best of the best. But his backhand lacked versatility. Not many crosscourt winners. Not the most effective slice. I don't think I've ever seen him hit a drop shot and didnt' love very often. This is why, for me, Federer's one-hander is the greater weapon. Roger can do so much more with his backhand. He's hit winners with his slice. His drop shot is untouchable. And I've seen him hit countless lob winners with it. And some of the angles he gets while also hitting the ball on the bounce is incredible. And yes he can smack one down the line for a winner.
So how many Grand Slams did Wawrinka's backhand earn him?? Anyone can make a compilation of top pro backhands - Federer was among the best and achieved more titles than Wawrinka.
I think pound-for-pound the best 1HBH I’ve seen is Gasquet’s. His forehand is just so bad that it gets overlooked Wawrinka won that epic backhand rally against Gasquet at Wimbledon though, in a match that went to 11-9 in the fifth. They’ve got to be the two best of the past 20 years for sure.
@@MikeHammerForEverYou only have to look at the last point shown in this very video that puts it in a nutshell: Wawrinka ends the match / wins the tournament by hitting his signature shot, the backhand down the line. Gasquet's backhand - despite its talent oozing beauty - also lacked one key ingredient: Stan's sturdy build & inherent body strength.
@@elektrik_exekutioner6822 lol ok, the pro tennis player with one of the most highly regarded strokes in history “shanks most of his backhands”. Do you have any magic beans for sale btw? I’ll take them all 🤡
@@Wildwielder look up Gasquet 103 mph backhand. I’ve never seen Wawrinka hit it that hard. That Gasquet opts for more topspin over pace most of the time doesn’t mean his backhand is worse, if anything he is better able to construct points with it than Wawrinka because of that. But he can match Wawrinka for power if he chooses to
I do think when it is all said and done, Federer should go down as having the best one hander. Wawrinka and Gasquet may have more powerful topspin backhands but Federer is no slouch in that regard as he does a wonderful job flattening it out when he needs to, his slice is easily one of the best and he arguably returned better off his backhand than any other 1 hander during his era..
His backhand most powerful probably, but not the best, his backhand lucks variety, his slice is not good, dropshot also not good,Roger backhand is better because of variety
Wawrinkas backhand is great. Yet you show only winners here. It is not that he never misses with the backhand. To me Gustavo Kürten had the greatest one-handed backhand. Of course, he does not compute any longer.
Nonsense... Federer has the best one handed backhand ever... More versatile, more defensive, more offensive, more intelligent... Author of this video doesn't understand tennis
