With DPM Heng Swee Keat having taken himself out of the running as Singapore's prime minister, his deputy, Chan Chun Sing, was asked if he was next in line.
"Now that DPM has decided to step aside as leader of the 4G, the 4G team should be given the opportunity to relook the question of succession holistically, and we will make a collective decision on who will be the next leader of the 4G in due course," Mr Chan said in response. cna.asia/3uvIZAq

Beside, the Communist threats from within that required 'an iron fist'. This is a new Singapore when it is not easily to be taken for ride. No to CCS for our PM. Chan Chun Sing is the chosen one i am sure as future DPM and PM. One by one the PAP leadership has taken out all his rivals. First it was Tan Chuan-Jin, Heng Swee Keat, etc.. more to come The Ong Ye Kung cannot bypass Chan as DPM/PM because he was only elected in 2015 after losing to WP in Aljunied in 2011. Chan was under LKY team in Tanjong Pagar GRC uncontested in 2011 hence would seem the preferred one with more experience

A small needle is all that is required to bust the bubble that goes with the PM's job. In the end, whoever takes the job will become old and wise very quickly. He will have to be an exceptional man if the standards expected are of the highest in the world.

Just saw this conference clip, and I have to say that the difference between CCS and OYK is that the latter appears to be a more natural leader. OYK exudes calm and purpose in his words, answering directly to the question while CCS sounds contrived and full of platitudes. No doubt that CCS is just as smart and probably more so, but I highly doubt that the 4G team will rally around him.
