Thank you, MR HENG for your service. And , a BIG THANK YOU FOR YOUR HONESTY. THANK YOU AGAIN, MR HENG. TAKE CARE N STAY SAFE TOO,MR HENG. GOD BLESS YOU FOREVER, MR HENG.
Thank you, DPM Heng S K for your dedication and selfless service to Singapore all these years. You have been a blessing to this nation. I am sure, your family and you have deliberated deeply over your current decision to step aside, in the best interest of Singapore. Thank you for your courage to do so. Please take care.
DPM SKHeng, truly a leader knows whom is most needed for the future wellbeing of Singapore. Deserves a bravo Salute. All Singapore Leaders are well chosen and represented. PM Lee, hat off for you.
Lee Kuan Yew was right when he said Heng Swee Kiat was his best aide. This man is good, self sacrificing and competent, unfortunately the country does not have the good fortune of having him as PM because the conditions around him are extremely exacting and his age and health does not permit him to continue with the jostling. Life is short, move on Mr Heng, lets hope that even if the country does not score a distinction over the next decade, she will at least score an excellent under the next 4G PM designate.
IMO, DPM Heng had made a wise and correct decision for himself and for Singapore. I think his health may not take the stress ..... but, I do hope PM Lee will advise him to stay on in the Cabinet to guide and assist the younger Ministers and MPs (of 朝野) to look after the interests of Singapore and Singaporeans.
Thoughtful Singaporeans heaved a sigh of relief on hearing Heng's decision to step aside, but now the question is who's next? To answer this, we have to appreciate what the next PM must be able to do: 1. Create, and sell to our people, a new concept of the Singaporean identity; 2. Boldly confront and overcome the challenge of a dwindling and deteriorating talent pool; 3. Pre-emptively start a war to protect the country. The right person must be visionary, compelling, extremely intelligent, and outstandingly courageous. He is not first amongst equals; he is head and shoulders above the rest.
DPM is a good man, he knows well every man has a limit and there is some kind of destiny when pandemic starts, that's mother nature call. Anwar should look at this and see how a man steps back with dignity. What is yours shall be yours. What is not yours, whatever you do it just does not change destiny. 30% destiny 70% effort is a wisdom.
A blessing for the man who can be remembered best as an administrator. Or else, it wld definitely take a heavy toll on his health,as he shd be aware of it himself.
All Singaporean, DPM is really a good leader. Very sad that he did not to take up the 4G leader. Such a leader like DPM is difficult to find. Yes, indeed younger can run long, but character wise that is like you, I believe you have to really hate to find one as of now. At first I thought you will be at least for the first 5 years and teaches the young along your way. Very sad to have hear this news.
Let's be honest about it. DPM is not cut out for the PM post. I guess he knows and he is rather honest about it too. He managed to realize it right now. Sad.
Lawrence Wong is a good candidate for next pm. Even tot he’s a bit young. He had proven himself. If you can give him another 5 years, he will be a great pm in the making.
You're right, he should be the "chosen one" for PM. He has proven his mantle in the Covit-19 Committee & Ministry of Education. Hope he succeed. Best three cheers to Lawrence Wong - Hip Hip HoorayX3!!!👍👍👍🌈🌈🌈
Thank you DPM Heng for his selfless decision & contributions as Finance Minister!🇸🇬 I believe this is the best for Singapore & may our new Leader emerge sooner rather than later!
@@michaellee3314 There are so many leaders equal to HSK for PAP to choose from. This is why is said on the right track. Changing leader after designating one need not mean derailing
Whoever takes the job can be young as the New Zealand PM has proven but then we are taking a gamble. So we rather have people who have gone through the process. Better still if we have someone like Xi Jinping.
@@pointofview899 you're wrong , the term " blue blooded " means a person is an aristocrat or have a very high upbringing . I think you are conflating the term "true blue " Singaporean
@@letsgoletsgoletsgoletsgoletsgo In a free and democratic world one has the chance to " think out of the box" that's how new ways of using a word or phrase are added to the dictionary. Yes, you're correct "an aristocrat or have a very high upbringing." Kindly look in the dictionary and you can see there are words with many meanings, right? If you permit me, in mine I wish to use it for " a patriotic citizen that places the country first before self" or "a honorable selfless person." Thank you kindly.
@@pointofview899 .... look, the term "blue blood" is a very specific term... for a specific idea. its not like the word cool or dope that have multiple meanings depending on context. if the world runs by your logic that i can attach any meaning to any word because of democracy then no one would understand each other, because you are a straight up laptop protector styrofoam box (see i just swore at you)
It is getting quite dangerous FOR SPORE WITHOUT PM LEE I PRAY FOR PM LEE N MR HENG TO SMEHOW REMAIN AT THE BACK AS MENTORS.......U CAN SEE IT HAS NOT BEEN EASY FOR OUR DEAR CUTE PM HE COMES UNDER SRUTINY OFTEN EVEN BY HIS FEROCIOUS SIBLINGS INSIDE OF HIM I GUESS HE IS TIRED FIGHTING BUT SALUTE TO THE FIRST SON OF OUR EX SENIOR MENTOR ......PLEASE PRAY FOR HIM THIS NATIONS PRAY PRAY PRAY
A BIG THANK YOU TO DPM HENG SWEE KEAT FOR YOUR SELFLESS AND LONG-TIME SERVICES TO SINGAPORE AND THE PEOPLE .... DPM HENG , STAY SAFE , STAY HEALTHY , YOU ARE BLESSED BY NUMEROUS SINGAPOREANS ...
1:03:09 ... its very clear that our next successor must be a left-hander. So which potential minister is a left-hander ??? Its proven that left-hander has an edge in leadership.
Post LKY, i see that a few are as great as LKY or having the potential. HSK is one of the rare few. It's a sad Loss for Singapore and Singaporeans. He has the statesmanship and tenacity of LKY. The aura, oh my God. Hope CCS takes over. Fingers crossed.
Stroke is not hard to relapse... from my memories on my father... he relapse 2x within 7yrs I took care of him n finally wheelchair bonded... even he was quite strict with his diet. He took fish whenever possible instead of red meat... .
The truth is LHL not stepping aside as promised. He wants to stay a few years longer to milk the Singapore cow. HSK cannot wait any longer! So, the honorable thing to do is for HSK to step aside!!
1. Mr Lee Hsien Loong (Prime Minister) 2. Mr Teo Chee Hean (SM and Coordinating Minister for National Security) 3. Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam (SM and Coordinating Minister for Economic and Social Policies) 4. Dr Ng Eng Hen (Defence) 5. Mr K Shanmugam (Home Affairs and Law) 6. Dr Vivian Balakrishnan (Foreign Affairs) 7. Mr Heng Swee Keat (Deputy PM and Finance) 8. Ong Ye Kung (Transport) 9. Desmond Lee (National Development) 10. Grace Fu (Sustainability and the Environment) 11. Mr Chan Chun Sing (Trade and Industry) 12. Mrs Josephine Teo (Manpower) 13. Lawrence Wong (Education) 14. Mr S Iswaran (Communications and Information) 15. Mr Gan Kim Yong (Health) 16. Mr Masagos Zulkifli (Social and Family Development) 17. Mr Edwin Tong (Culture, Community and Youth)
He is a responsible man. He knows that even if he puts in his best efforts and the outcome may not be good for Singaporeans, he rather have someone more capable and strong temperament to handle this job. In Taiwan the transport minister resigned to take responsibility for the train crash. Appears that he wasn't up to the job. He shouldn't have taken the job rather than bowing and resigning after the accident.
DPM simply wants a good old life not money (he got plenty)and status.(still keeping his portfolio). Nothing wrong with that, afterall is his choice. Singaporean should pray for an “impossible” leader like LKY. true politician. Good foresight, see the need of the people and are willing to Sacrifies for the better of the people and nation.(unspoken love not money and status). Leadership begins with love not agenda. Thank you.😘🙂
so from ah heng reply does it mean that LHL is holding the position for too long? until ah heng becomes too old and hence the runway becomes too short USA Biden is 78 year old Malaysia DR M is 95 years old and still fighting for the PM post again So how 60 years is consider old?
Everthing seems so calculated. A good leader becomes a leader by bringing his competitors up with him. You don't be a leader by being the last man standing...becomes meaningless.
HSK, LIKE LKY, hv foresight, that's why he stepped down! But LSL does not , that's why he keeps holding on to be the PM, although HSK was already the DPM. Although Lawrence Wong is selected as the new leader of the 4G team. There's still lack of confidence in the new leader n the 4G team. Everybody agree? No wonder LW is not even made the DPM yet!
I'm sure u r MP of sme district PLEASE DNT ASK MR HENG STUPID QUESTIONS!!!! HOW CAN HE BE PM N WORK WITH YOUNGER ONES FACE JAMUS N PRITAM EACH MTH HAVING DEBATES N ALL HID BLOOD PRESSURE FOES NOT ARISE UH???? ( HE ALREADY SAID HES OLD TO WORK W YOUNGER ONES SO HE CONTINUES TO BE MENTORING )PLUS IF HE WANTS TO BE THE PRESIDENT ??!!!
Complete polar opposite with Malaysia. a) Oldest PM in the World Twice. b) Kleptocracy for 60 years c) Position is key d) Cash is King e) Being dumb, racist and bigotry is the common traits in Malaysian leaders f) EGO and arrogance first g) There is always a backdoor way. h) If party loses, all you need is cash to win back by buying MPs from winning camp.
There must be a real reason for "stepping aside" right? Why does a qualified person say, the future is someone else's but not for me, no longer suited to me? Such a let down. Why doesn't someone else of the same 4th generation of leaders speak up or volunteer? Think of it like a football match. Suddenly the main or core players decides not to play the semifinals. There are finals after the semifinals..We are going to have a chance at the champions' cup, right?Heng Swee Keat greatly feels he is not up to the challenge. Is he really too over perfectionist? Is that an excuse? Like it is a long distance running but he doesn't feel he has enough stamina..But he is used to running 100 miles a week, in the off season. Why does he get so fixated on covid-19? I mean Singapore survived very well compared to many other developed countries. So did South Korea. We don't see people handing out trophies for that? It is not as if Singapore failed badly on covid and must restart from some bottom range amongst certain southeast Asian countries who cannot even afford their own vaccines, right? I think Grace Fu has made an "objective" and not so pessimistic assessment of " where we are". Let's keep a sane outlook. I think the past or where we are is certainly not pessimistic. The future is not or may not be perfect but definitely not in darkness or without hope..Do we have the leaders to show us better futures? Singapore must show the next 4th generation of leaders can be more innovative, keep up existing standards, long term progression etc.etc. People must be able to see a better and more secure country. Leaders must be able to keep an impactful vision of the future....More and more sustainable..Come on we are not blind, we can still choose the way without our guide dog. Go Singapore, go, go, go, indeed! I am struck by the sudden lost of the " We must win," spirit. Suddenly we have ept and the waves are no longer coming towards the shore. Suddenly the water is receding so quickly, the waters will not be strong enough to fill the lagoon..It is just the afternoon and the moment.
He knew later that he chose the wrong partner so he stepped down. Ah loong is watching from behind for the good of singapore. LW is the best choice with OYK as his deputy. It is good that we support them.
Who are the ageing old of the new Singapore? Sad to say...mainly the immigrant stock caught in the web of the poverty trap. Well, this is life as we all must grow old. Grow old gracefully? This is a perpetual problem for the present young immigrants for the time to come...going old!
Why is Fmuble Heng evading the last question on whether he will be running for the next GE? LOL. Good riddance that he is no longer in the running for PM.
tharman was once DPM and finance minister. But i doubt it . LHL said singapore is not ready for a non chinese PM. So i guess even this they might not do !
@@jessiejames7492 Tharman will tell you runway too short and age, too old. Also Covid. He will be much older than HSK by the time he takes over. So, we better stop dreaming.
DPM Heng is the right choice and his excuse for not taking up this challenge is strange if not confusing. At the age of 60 it is the prime age to lead a nation. Trump become President at over 70 years and serve only 4 years but made a great impact around the globe just the same and we are talking about a population 100 times larger and a system so entrenched with complications. HSK is thinking too much regarding the runway as all along we have been govern by a one party government with a stable system so it definitely is not a runway issue unless there is hint that our government is more complicated than the USA system which make a new PM task so daunting that he has to retreat. I was so looking forward to HSK leadership but is now deeply disappointed by his decision.
No need mentor, you should rich enough to live in luxury for the rest of your life. Our coffer to provide our expensive ministers is getting thin. Just retire with your wife and hope that you can live well and be in healthy.
So what happened? Lawrence said it was completely unexpected. Why would it be if he was such a good collaborator? DPM Heng was also very uncomfortable, he read from a script and tried to smile once. Still DPM should know that the main reason why he could not b the next PM is because he lacks political flair.
DPM heng just gave up because he doesn't want to be blamed for what is to come. LOL Strong men raised to the occasion. Weak men only enjoy the good times. :(
All the lame excuses. Hard to take the bait. Why is there no one to persuade Heng to 'chiam see tong" (stay on until you come to the bridge..) ? All these while, Sporeans had the impression, the next line up was ready. Now, who's to blame ?
Just how rich is all these pap Minister's, MP, Mayor's whatever position. Bet all are millionaire. So many years in the house. Easy job. Just say yes to whatever implement. While people are struggling to survive. I just went for an interview for a production operator job. Pay is only $900. If only I can betray myself to join pap. I will be rich
True & honest politician's job is never easy. It's only when we eat the cake than we know the taste whether sweet, sour or bitter. In Singapore, we're paid well for what we can do. Our politicians are also paid equitably for what they can do for the country and citizens. Singapore excel the world in many things eg education, hotels, container-port, healthcare, airport, telecommunication and etc. Singapore is rich enough to pay for the successes of the government. The same government has been democratically voted in for the past over 50 years. Taxpayers are willing to pay for excellence. We can see the results of not paying politicians enough in many countries. There, the politicians become corrupt and sufferings go to the citizens and the country. "We pay for what we get" "You pay peanuts you get monkeys" P.S. Yes, Singapore has many millionaires and even billionaires as well. 😃😃😃
I think this is a great opportunity for a female pm. I nominate Jo Teo , Grace Fu or even Indranee. To me these are cream of the crop. Ideally Grace Fu
. Still talking about about 4G... It feels so sore, disgusted and humiliating listening to this scripted mellow drama of defeat.. Where got the face to mentor junior ..... time for a rehearsal ... .
Our DPM Mr Heng don’t have the heart & desire to lead Singapore. Better let him go. Runway too short too long already 60 yrs old is just an excuse. Look at Donald Trump & Mahathir .. over 70 yrs old still running for election...
