Our next TNG era Star Trek fan film, "The Holy Core" is now fully funded and in production! Subscribe to this channel for periodic update videos. Thanks for watching!
This is the best fan film set in the TNG era that I have seen. It was incredibly professional, and truly caught the optimism and spirit of the Star Trek universe. Well done!
Holy crap! Now that I've seen the behind the scenes. You did this in your living room??!! Dude, Incredible. What you could do with a larger budget would be epic. When I saw that your story started as a non-scifi idea made me realize that you have even more in common with Gene Rodenberry's work on all his Star Trek episodes.
Well done making of doc. Impressed how you built the shuttle in your living room. You're right about physical elements. It's one of the things I first noticed when I watched. The turbo lift scene benefited from the real background. I think Chance Encounter follows the true spirit of Star Trek. Not explosions and effects but characters and stories. And since I wasn't looking for Star Trek fan films when I came across it, it was indeed a "Chance Encounter" Thanks!
Thank you for the fan film - loved every bit of it. And thank you for the look behind the scenes. Enjoyed seeing the shuttle craft on the set. Made me appreciate it even more.
Found Chance Encounter and thoroughly enjoyed it. Very well done! Then found this behind the scenes which I enjoyed as well. Great to see all the work that went into the making of your short film. Your hard work really showed in your script, story, and set development. Also your professionalism shows in this production. Everything from the background music to your filming was excellent . Well done to all involved. I look forward to seeing more from your group in the future. If I didn’t know it was a fan film I would have thought it was commercially made. Excellent work.
Thank you Wayland - All of us here really appreciate your comments. We are currently crowd-funding for another TNG era film, "The Holy Core". Please check out our Kickstarter page if you'd like to support us! kck.st/2F0wirX Thanks!
An amazing job !! One of the best Star Trek stories I have seen. Very well written and the acting and filming are superb. My hat is off to all involved in the making and filming of this show quality film. :-)
I wanted to take the opportunity, to say that this Star Trek short is outstanding, well acted, good story (very much in keeping with the Star Trek genre). Well done and I really hope that you will do more. Thank you very much for sharing.
HOW did I miss this before? Thank goodness for the playlist that revealed it. What a great mini-doc for a great production. Thank you so much for following your heart and making so much great entertainment for all of us. I hope your talents are rewarded greatly in your real life.
Man, I love sci-fi fans. Caught the Buckaroo Banzai reference on the red labels, as well as the Doctor Who reference of the woman in red’s maiden name...Rose Tennant, hahaha! Little details and easter eggs like that make me happy.
Just caught this, don't know how I missed it last night. Changing the clocks for the end of Daylight Saving Time can be overwhelming! Anyway, I admire your communal dedication. And I gotta say, the cinematography was just like TNG - moreso than many other shorts I've seen. I can see where your enthusiasm for film made this tale of unbridled passion work. Cheers!
Nice one Tommy. I'm glad it felt like authentic TNG to you and thanks for taking the time to comment. Stay tuned to this channel, as we are currently preparing for another TNG era film for 2018...!
That shuttlepod set is so good, that I didn't even think to praise it when I watched the film. I just saw a shuttlepod, and didn't give it any more thought.
didn't realize the difficulty of her monologue posed if I hadn't of watched this. makes that monologue much more incredible and emotional then it originally was. Extremely well acted throughout, I honestly forgot it is a fan production and find myself looking for more. Thank you to all involved, made my day brighter!
Thanks Phil - I'm really glad you enjoyed the film, and thanks for taking the time to watch the behind the scenes too. I'm sure Ayvianna will be pleased to hear that the monlogue worked for you as well!
She should be very proud! The difficulty of the performance never crossed my mind upon my 1st viewing until I watched the making of (thank you btw, I enjoy seeing the process and appreciate you documenting it) on a side note, I own a convention here in the U.S. how could I reach out to you privately? I think this topic of short film making (writing, directing, producing, etc) and impact of RU-vid in the distribution would make for a fascinating panel. Again thank you for sharing
Defenatly Please Make more ... the level of profesionalisim that went into this for like next to NO budget is outstanding ...this was worthy of paramount sydication ....beautifull work
i look forward to it when Small time People like yourself can put together something this Authentic and Crisp Buy Simply Building set pieces at home and on Next to No buget , it makes me Wonder where they Were putting all the money Durring the next Gen seris that Was Largly Funded and Backed by a major Studio ,, They Clearly Diddnt need that much Cash to Pull it off and youres is a Testiment to that its Too bad I live in Canada I Would have loved the oppourtunity to take a Role for one of these
Thank you. I guess when you don't have any cash it forces you to spend what you do have more wisely and make it go as far as you possibly can. At least being in Canada you're near to the new sets for Star Trek Discovery though.
The actors, props and scenes is what impressed me. I am highly critical and detailed orientated person, but are more forgiving towards Fan Production. With FPSD, i didn't have to have any forgiving, because it was superb acting as servicemen and women. Noticing most of the actors had accents, i must assume, this is a Brit produce Star Trek and is much better than all the others. Please don't change.
Well, if you ever decide to make another "episode", you really need to come to Los Angeles, because of the number of TREK fans here, and much extra materials lying around in the studios that you can use, most of this stuff just gets thrown in the trash, and the number of out of work special effects artists, such as myself, and other helpers that would help out on any production, just for the experiences! It really is a great place if you have little or no money for productions!
I like chance encounter and held my interest the story was very good I hope they will be more just like it the music and the theme seem to fit everything it made me feel as if I was watching the Next Generation
Great movie, I particularly like the fact that the Male security guard is in a casual baggy uniform, while the female security guard is in a uniform which appears to have been spray painted onto her amazing ass! Outstanding. You definitely need more of Emily in the next one!
Hey, sorry for the slow reply - only just seen this. I borrowed them from the guy who runs my local car repair / MOT garage. From time to time he welds car seats on to a frame to use as chairs for his waiting area. (Only one of the ones I borrowed was welded, I had to jury rig the other one to a frame). I'm not sure, but I believe they were originally taken out of a BMW - not sure which model though.
Ah, so that explains the square shaped turbolift! It's the only thing that didn't quite fit with the rest of the extremely TNG aesthetic of the final product, but this behind-the-scenes vid explains why, as well as a fascinating insight into the rest of the project
Thanks David! That same rock can be spotted in the background of our other Trek film, The Holy Core: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-aaqsUI55FqU.html
Thanks for this video, it's great to see the hard work put into the film and how things were made and done. Do you know what fabric you used for the grey parts inside the shuttle? It looked really good and if it's relatively cheap and easy to get hold of I might use it for the Galaxy Class bridge in my film lol. Also any chance a blooper video for Chance Encounter will be uploaded in the future? Thanks :)
Hey, I don't remember what fabric it was I'm afraid. Just whatever was workable looking and available in the shop! As I say in the vid, be sure not to buy online...! There's no blooper real in the works I'm afraid, we didn't really have enough suitable clips to justify one.
Ah that's okay, and yeah I won't be buying any online lol, I had a look in a shop yesterday to "familiarise" myself with fabrics as I don't have much knowledge on them lol, which was very helpful, so I should be able to find something that ticks both boxes of looks good and is affordable lol. It's a shame that there wasn't that many bloopers, although I'm sure not for when you were filming lol, but that's probably because you hired professional actors, my film on the other hand will star my friends so we will definitely have a lot of giggles lol. Thanks for the response :)
I've got another question lol, for the LCARs how did you go about making them? In the video you said that they "arrived" so did you go to a shop or service to have them made? Also how expensive was your method? Thanks :)
No worries :-) I designed the LCARS in Photoshop, and then had them printed professionally - that's what then "arrived" in a poster tube. You then need to mount them on some black plexi glass and back light them. Nothing's ever cheap of course, printing, VAT and delivery all add up, as does the plexi glass costs and of course whatever frame you make to mount them in. You also need lights behind of course, so yeah it all adds up!
Watched the film a month or so ago. Nice to see this little behind the scenes video. It's obvious there is a passion for the project and Star Trek inparicular. I find the themes sad and telling of our society today. Marriage is bad and only stifles life. Men hold back woman when in a relationship This is a horrid way of thinking. A marriage is a partnership. Two people facing life together and working towards their goals together.
I only wish the current Trek offerings from CBS/Paramount were as engaged in human story telling as this project. Instead from them we see only sensationalist, flashy nonsense designed to appeal to the lowest common denominator. Trek without culture isn't Trek.
Enjoyed both the film and this video. Then I realized these are 7 years old. The quality and prep work to accomplish the film(s), the numbers above are disappointing and unexplained. 5.14 / 11K / 450. I hope you are still making films - I will go look.
...Excellent short-film with a thoughtful & clever script. P.S. 'Carver' bends that uniform better than Beckham. That is one long-cool drink of water. She's Gal Gadot pretty...
