I love these Horse Plus Vets films . Not are they really interesting, when I start thinking about something that may have been shown, I can go back and listen to it again. Thank you Dr Nancy for being SO complete. You are a wonderful teacher. Please please please continue.
I saw this placenta checking video and thought Oh no! Did something go wrong? Luckily Dr Nancy was just teaching us what she does and what she looks for. Phew! And Baby Chance looks to be top of his class getting full marks. See how he knows his job when Mama is allowed back to him, nursing like he's been doing it all his life. You all have done a great job feeding Mama up, getting her into better shape so she could deliver us this wonderful success story.🥰
Awww!! Brings back memories! I was raised on a horse farm, have pulled so many foals and checked so many placentas! Rule of thumb, pray for only one hole in the placenta, lol
I saw my daughter's placenta after she had my grandson. Her OB doc showed us the tree of life, and I was able to take pics of it. Truly amazing getting to see a horse's placenta! ❤ Thank you for sharing Dr Nancy! I love you and Doc.
Thank you Dr. Nancy. I find all this information on foalng very interesting. Am 78 years old and my exposure to horses in East Africa (Tanzania) in my youth was very limited. While I expressed a wish to study to be a vet, my father squashed it very rapidly as 60 years ago secretarial, nursing or teaching were more usual careers. Anyway I did not have any science or biology studies. 😢 so
So I make up for the lost time by watching a good many You tube videos on a range of subjects that inteeest me. Never too old to learn. My late husband and I bred African parrot species, and lorikeets for 40 years.
Such an awesome video! It amazes how Dr. Nancy can explain everything so you can understand it in layman’s term!!! Thank you so much for sharing so much invaluable information and not being afraid to double your own work! WHY WOULDN’T YOU! A little extra effort produces much needed success!!
Love learning this stuff. All horse owners should watch a channel like this. At least lightly covering the multitude of horse doctoring. The rescue is a great supplier of subjects!
Kiddo!!, you are so wonderful. I. Laughingly say in an emergency I would be so happy to ask you to care for me. The way that every time something is done you explain it to us as you do it. So though, so good. So Fondly, mrs jo brewer
Super cute! What a cool video, I've never seen a horse placenta it's massive. I can't imagine the poor mare carrying that thing completely filled up with fluid and baby around all day, she must be so relieved to be done lol.
Very interesting. Thank you, Dr. Nancy, for educating us on newborns foals. The entire process of showing us the placenta to the tests was pretty cool. Chance and Candy both look so pretty and happy with each other.
Good information! Nature being nature, it's interesting that not all mares wax before foaling....makes it harder to catch them! There is more to having foals than the average person realizes.
You are so awesome Dr. Nancy! Thank you for being so thorough, and explaining everything to us. Love watching all the medical procedures you perform. Your simply amazing 🤩 Blessings to all at HSH 🙌 Jennifer
For two weeks, I've been tempted to acquire an unhandled, heavy-bred Mare from a Texas Auction/Sell Stable and have her shipped to California... Dr. Nancy's information 100% reassures me that it would be incredibly irresponsible to do so. It shreds my heart to think where she'll end up but in my unprepared environment, I could only contribute to her bad luck... Lesson learned: don't get in over your head despite your heart.
That's really mature and responsible. Sometimes love is not enough. There are other, calmer horses who could do with a home with someone who has the facilities and willingness to learn from a local teacher
@@The-ii5mj Thank you for your response and I may take you up on your offer one day! The Mare was a beautiful Bay, 6 years old but not halter trained. Being heavy-bred, there is no way I could safely transport her a long distance. Surely, she already had travel stress. And yes, it kills me to think she is headed "south". The best price they gave me was about $800 which I believe is higher than a Kill Buyer would pay? I followed up with the Auction/Sell House regarding the Bay and they could only say, "She was purchased".
Thank you so much Dr Nancy for teaching us how a placenta should look and what not to do. This information is priceless. And the IGG test explanation also fantastic. I really enjoy all of it. Glad to see Mamma and baby are doing great. Cheers from South America Uruguay 🇺🇾
When I worked with Race horse Broodmares, We would always be on hand for the foaling and test the mares Colostrum ASAP after foaling. On the Canadian Scale of testing, if it was 22 or below, we would bottle feed some from our colostrum bank in the freezer. Any mare with a 28 or above, we milked some out for the bank after foals first nursing, for the bank. Had 2 great mares who always had a 34 or above score on their colostrum and made so much of it, that we could get at least 4 bottles full every year they had a foal!! Oh and always on hand means someone was always in the broodmare barn during foaling season, 24/7, with other on farm help available to call to come if a problem arose!
Gotta just say this is quickly becoming a show I look forward to. I took a little while to warm up to Dr Nancy, I think mostly just cos we get familiar with the original faces, but I'm absolutely sold now. Ty for taking such great care with these horses, they have certainly not had the best start:( you are making a great contribution to sending them in a better direction:)
Totally amazing..Love Horse Plus Vets..I feel I can stomach everything you've done so far except one thing...lol...Warts in the ears 😮 ugh 😩😫.. Anything but that..Eye removal I'm ok castration I'm ok pulling teeth out I'm ok.. scaping wounds I'm ok even when Doc would lance cysts I was ok ..But the removal of those warts OMG 😱😱!!!! Nope Luv y'all
Question for Dr Nancy…is there correlation between quality of colostrum and the chances of joint ill? I’ll explain. I caretake a small flock of sheep for a friend, we don’t put anything on the navals of the lambs (lambed on pasture) and we have not seen any joint ill with any of the lambs (I know best practice is to dip). Can we then say that the ewes have good colostrum because we have not seen any issues?
