Thank you for this review I'm late to this. I am aware of some of the Exclusif line, but don't own any. The new Comete release made me go sniffing again. I decided to do a skin test of this one. I was impressed and as the day wore on, I was all things moved, hooked and captivated.... as I went to sleep, it was still in my wrist 12 hours later. There is a degree of unparalleled comfort and serenity only matched by inner strength that I find in this. My first les exclusif is coming. I thought it may have been coromandel or bel respiro, but they will have to wait!
Finally got my nose on Le Lion. First Class. Shalimar is one of my all-time favorites. I also have the Ted Lapidus Pour Homme EDT that Ramsey, Rich Mitch love. Powerful. Perhaps it's a crude fragrance to some, but I think Lapidus has something there...maybe blended with Lalique Homme (the lion bottle), which will ligthen it up towards the citrus, could prove interesting, maintaining the vintage/timelessness. I'm also thinking of Guerlain Santal Royal, which also has that animalistic note. I'm sure no one needs my input but for me Le Lion is the perfection of the masculine Shalimar, and I have to have it. After that, I shud be guud...but now that I have a taste for Zaharoff...
I just enjoyed your review. My signature fragrance for many years has been Chanel Egoiste Cologne Concentree. I just ordered a sample of Le Lion de Chanel. Any thoughts as to a comparison of the two fragrances. Thank you, Ken
Oooh, they’re quite different. There’s none of that baked fruit + sandalwood feel in Egoiste. Do let me know what you make of Lion when you receive it. And thank you so much for watching.
Initially, I thought it was my headphones that were crackling.. and I had a good laugh when you ended up un-syncing your lips and your voice. So, I enjoyed that 'aside'👍😊
Thanks for a really stimulating year of content and for being so generous with your knowledge. Discovering your channel and blog has really broadened my horizons and lead to some special discoveries. All the best for the new year! 🥀
I ordered this beauty and it arrived this morning and it’s exquisite and sits in between Shalimar and Habit Rouge at the opening for me but going to work at the one hour mark to enjoy it’s development. Am in love 😍
Le Lion is excellent but would say that Coromandel is probably just a little more subtle, mass appealing and easier to wear. Le Lion is definitely very bold, strong and galbanum heavy - a statement maker and not for the faint hearted!
for a women ?? 🙏🏻🙏🏻 thank you that’s really useful… will go for that one I think… I did also look at bois des iles as well.. but have nt seen it So it’s all guess work😬
@@Persolaise So received it today wore it a bit and here are my thoughts Unfortunately not my cup of tea, it’s very spicy and full of incense not my flavor was really hoping I would like it. I can see this being a real good scent in the winter but the incense notes are very overwhelming for me
I have been wear Le Lion on and off for several months. It still leaves me a little speechless. On my skin l get a lot of smoke. I absolutely love it! Coromandel is one of my favorites and the fragrance I receive the most compliments on.
Like it but not impressed by the Lion from Chanel, not as impressed as I was with the tiger from Kenzo. To me same with you, it smells more of Guerlain-ish as Chanel. Not disappointed just felt like it easily being part of old vibe from Guerlain. Maybe... I was having my hope too high for something as a new classic vibe that can fit that Chanel image to my nose, as Ciur de Russie or Coromandel
This is a valid point: do we expect a brand to keep pushing in new directions, or do we consider it to be okay to revisit (and to reinterpret) old structures? Thanks for watching and writing.
Uuh ada Mbak Dewi jugaa di sini. Aku sering nonton channelnya mbak. Seru2 gitu mendengarkan review parfum walau gak punya parfum yang direview😂🤭, terkagum-kagum mendengarkan mbak jelasin parfum, tp berhasil keracunin beli Shalimar liat video parfum klasik.. love❤❤
Love your initial thoughts! Can't wait for the blog post for more ... I've had a decant for a couple of months, and I haven't really gotten on with it at all. I wasn't reminded of CdR (need to keep an eye out for that birch!), but got the shalimar connection. I respect shalimar, but don't actually enjoy it. (L'Heure Bleue is "my" classic Guerlain). It seems to me that Chanel pushed their own boundaries-which even if I don't like the result-is refreshing in the current perfume landscape of safe releases (be it following trends OR staying in a lane, like Chanel usually does).
Kevin, thanks for writing. I think it was Sylvaine Delacourte who said that you're either a Shalimar person or a L'Heure Bleue person, so if you're the latter, I can understand why Le Lion might not appeal to you.
@@Persolaise Yes! It also probably explains why I love Boy & Misia, so I still overall love Olivier's direction for Les Exclusifs. :-) I'm sure this isn't the case ... but if Olivier were looking to classic Guerlain for inspiration, you can see some L'Heure Bleue in Misia (powdery iris/violet), some Jicky in Boy (lavender fougere), and now some Shalimar in Le Lion (amber/citrus/incense). Next we need his take on a Mitsouko chypre! :-)
After watching this I ordered a decant, just got it and wow, Chanel is really copying Guerlain if you ask me. I wear vintage Shalimar, Jicky and Mitsouko, have for years, (and I've got back ups)and this smelled so much like vintage Jicky and also Shalimar EDC vintage it was unnerving. I guess copying is supposedly a form of flattery, but really Chanel? The dry down is different of course. If people love this one, then that means the originals of those fragrances should make a comeback as something "new" and "modern", lol, it's about time I guess. So long "old lady" moniker! We are back in style!
The debate around 'copy vs inspiration' is alive and well with this one. To my nose, it possesses a distinct identity of its own. Many thanks for watching.
@@Persolaise I will say the dry down is not at all Guerlain. I posted a little hastily, but the dry down reminds me of vintage Norma Kamali, Incense, really deep resins and smoked leather. Thank you for your wonderful channel! I enjoy your perspective very much. Julia
I blind bought Coromandel and love it but it was giving me a bad headache and could not wear it. So I send it back. Definitely not a safe blind buy because these exclusif Chanel collection are expensive that it is best to try it on skin first before making a commitment to purchase the full bottle. But I absolutely did enjoy the Coromandel experience and felt like a billionaire wearing it. Hopefully, I’ll find one that I can truly enjoy without headaches.
Got ya. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Hope we get a review sometime soon. I got mine mid December in America. I love it. It’s really strong. Closet will get to a oud fragrance from Chanel.
@@gunmetal2445 it is. I bought one just as seen on his table and notice he’s worn one that bottle less than half way gone. And another one next to it was worn as well.
When you mentioned leaking...i have to say that my bottle of Sycomore is leaking, i have to keep it in the box at all times to prevent any oxygen entering...sucks but what can i do...
Nice parfum. First impression to me was the similarity with Musc ravageur from Frederic Malle. Thanks for the video! I miss the EDT Exclusif Chanel line...
Happy new year! I absolutely adore Le Lion, I received a miniature and I will review it soon on my channel as well. Very excited to hear your thoughts!
I was considering picking up an incense perfume and I though this was good value for money as it performs like an extrait. The other indie/ niche options I was considering were going for twice/ thrice of what Chanel was charging per ml!
You wrote in the blog:"perhaps their greatest success so far in the 21st century".. Does this mean that you put Le Lion in front of Coromandel and Boy 🙂?
Thanks :-) I really do rely on all of you to let me know about technical issues. This is one of the main drawbacks of being live, I guess. I don't have a producer in the studio to help me identify and deal with problems.
Recently picked up a 4 ml. bottle of Le Lion and have to say I'm very disappointed. People speak of an initial burst of lemon. On me I get an initial burst of insect repellant. It improves over time, but i've concluded that to wear le lion, you need to apply it two hours before anyone else will be exposed to it. For years my signature scent was Lagerfeld's K.L. Alas the bozos discontinued it, and I've been searching for a replacement ever since. Le Lion isn't it.
Well, ‘offensive’ is perhaps over-stating it, although maybe some would find it offensive. I think it’s seen as being problematic, and also not terribly helpful. A descriptor like ‘warm’ or ‘ambery’ might be more apt. It’s certainly being seen as more and more of an issue in the industry.
@@Persolaise I can only assume that a reading deficit is rife amongst the fragrance enthusiasts! Thank you very much for a great Chanel. Modest, effortless olfactory expertise. I’ve been in this hobby properly for 7-8 years and only just discovered you last week! RU-vid algorithms obviously saved the best until last! At least I now have a rich treasure trove of your videos to watch 😀
Coco Chanel's legacy is appalling She was anti Semitic, lover was a member of the ss, a nazi spy, tried to steal the company from its rightful owners etc Not exactly a great role model I only like coromandel, sycamore, allure, allure sport extreme Coromandel us my top Chanel favourite otherwise Chanel is a pretty boring house
@@pumaadidas Ah, but you see, I think sitting on the fence is a perfectly acceptable position to take sometimes. I'd prefer to smell Coromandel on Madame P, whereas I'll probably wear Le Lion myself. I find the latter a more interesting composition.
