By the way now you are so close to Tin Peaks ;) Well.. I know it doesn't really exist but the locations they filmed in is nearby! Such energy in the air! Cloudy but energetic ;) Also, can't wait to see what this new chapter in your life beholds for you and how it will all unfold and blossom through your channel!
I have just discovered and binged watched your videos. Oh my goodness...you are a real treasure! Everything about your channel is in a league of its own! I love the music, the artistic filming, the power of your words and of course, your cocktail making! It's a sensory buffet. Thank you for sharing your beloved San Francisco with us, I truly enjoyed seeing the beautiful city through your eyes. Your lunches and shopping adventures were so much fun to watch and I loved meeting your friends (Mary is a real gem!) Thank you for all the work you put forth to bring such informational and aesthetically beautiful videos to the RU-vid community! It's a pleasure to watch them and I look forward to many, many more! Best of luck in your new home!
I’ve been thru that part of WA many times. I so LOVE the pacific nw! Thanks to channels like yours as well as dacob and eugen and kristo I’ve finally started falling for no. 5. For so long I couldn’t get past the preconceptions and just everything that comes with it. I now have the edt and edp and I really think it’s time I find a way to try the pure Parfum! So so very fun learning from your videos and learning to love these master works of art and perfume!
I am new to your channel. I located you through my search for information on Van Cleef and Arpel's Pour Homme. I appreciated the review and particularly enjoyed your program presentation and your friendly and articulate character! I am a fan of the vintage fragrances and will enjoy hearing from you! I really like your new car. Regards, Steve
What a review, Michael! I'm going to a brand new mall for the grand opening tomorrow, and I know there will be a chanel boutique. I'll definitely try this out. After such a masterful review, it would be a crime not to. And I hope you're settling in nicely in your new home, Michael
Super yay! So glad to see your return! Yep, Chanel No 5 is a tough sell to contemporary noses. Most I know either don't understand it or are absolutely reviled. Oddly, I have never tried the parfum, only the EdT and EdP, but must go out an snag sample. Must be super duper concentrated No 5 goodness! Mahalos!
Hi. This was my Mum’s fragrance. I have a bottle that I keep and take out every so often and it helps me remember her. Your reviews are great. You are very calm and dignified and I enjoy them a lot. Thanks so much and keep this up.
no 5 pure parfum is my favorite out my whole collection , sublime ... i cant live without it now and its ruined my love i had for all my other fragrances , none quite match up now lol i been spoiled by no 5 ,once it settles it becomes incredibly beautiful , its smooth sexy and has the best powdery notes ever made ...masterpiece.. great review by way... :)
Side note, as you may be aware there is some drama going on in the fragrance community. Very refreshing that your wonderful channel is not going down that road. You have a thoughtful unique take that I always look forward to. Good man!
Even though I do not enjoy No5 your review makes me want to go out and sniff it again. Happy new home!! Wishing you make many wonderful memories in your new place.
What is the difference between the extrait and Parfum, really? Always love your presentations :) Also, will the fragrance- if sealed, even after 60 years, is it worth buying if I plan to wear it and not merely collect.
I adore your videos and perfume reviews my sweet friend. i'm so glad you are all settled in to your new town. May you make lots of wonderful and lasting friendships.
I grew up in the area and we went to the Puyallup Fair every year. Enjoy your new home town! I like No. 5 best in the Eau Premiere version. I adore the sparkling aldehydes. I feel girly and sophisticated at the same time. :)
Great explanation as always. Pure parfum of NO5 is a great thing to ha e in your collection. I hope your settling in well in your new home. Best wishes.
It is the original pure parfum. Eau Premier smells nothing like it and the EDT is pale in comparison. Like a carbon copy. The rose and jasmine in the pure parfum is from Grasse in France where as the rose and jasmine in the EDT is not. Cheers!
Sounds a lot like Arpege, Lanvin. I feel the civet can be overpowering too. With the Aldehydes. Adored your review. Subscribed. Andy and Candy oh my. The memories of sheer glamour and fun. That is what No 5 sounds like to me. I'll have to smell it one day. :) Blessings.
Good luck with your life in your new beautiful place, Lanier! Glad to see that you're rolling out fragrance reviews. Why did you decide to move anyway?
I am so bummed you left SF...I loved your place there, and everything you did in the area. :( I'll always watch your vids, but I will miss that setting!!
One of the top two fragrances of all time! The other being Shalimar, my personal favorite. My mother's favorite was Chanel No. 5. Oh, and welcome home. 😊
Brilliant review. I love Number 5 and I agree it is for everyone. Well . . . maybe not a tattoo-encrusted bodybuilding bricklayer, but everyone else, male or female, it works for! I tried the new version yesterday. I am not sure. I wait with bated breath for the thoughts of my Ministers of Perfume, you and Dacob! I hope you can take us on a vlogged tour of your new hometown!
oh dear! I am soooooo thrilled!!! The magic of Twin Peaks at you doorstep!!!! ahhhhh!!!! Pass my my salts! Pass me some cognac too... I'm about to faint!!!
Having bought up a huge estate of 48 bottles of parfumes and colognes, I am devouring your videos! Three bottles of this are on the way to me in this large, vintage collection! Sure wondering if I will be able to wear this (and get away with it) or will be gifting them to others as many in the lot are for women. But if Brad Pitt can wear it, then I can Rock it!
Well, you know what I always say, wear what you love and not what "they' say you should like. 48 bottles on the way... wow that to me sounds like Christmas! Cheers.
Beautiful review. I need to try this now. I am so happy you have settled in your new home. I wish you all the very best of new and beautiful memories. Xoxoxo MJ
Hi Lanier! I enjoy all concentrations of No 5... They are all so different. I'm not sure about No 19 though. I had the EDP, but gave it to a friend that wanted it really bad. Now I miss it and need 19 in my collection! There are so many fans of EDT, but I'm leaning toward parfum. Which do you have experience with? Thanks a bunch!!!
Brock how nice to hear from you!! Well now yes I do have No.19 in both EDT and EDP and I have to say that I love the EDT. BUT the EDP wins because it is just No.19 Intense! Just gorgeous. A little dab of the Parfum and I am set for the entire day! Cheers and my very best to you!
Does the pure parfum smells different from the eau de perfume and the eau de toilette ? to me the eau de perfume and the toilette were a bit strong and powdery almost cosmetic like
Thanks for this video. Because of it I decided to wear my wife's Chanel No5 to work today. What an amazing scent. I do agree with you, it is a unisex fragrance. Thanks to you I decided to wear what I loved instead of what they said I should like.
@@laniersmith1798 I work in a small office with little interaction with my co workers so there were no comments. However I will say I did enjoy it all day. Chanel No5 is a beast and gave me 12 hours of wear. I will also note that it was a little more spicy on me than it is my wife so there is something to be said for body chemistry.
unfortunately never have tried parfum. was gifted the atomizer version which I loved. this is on the list. what do you think of tom fords neroli portifino?
By the way, if anyone is interested in a men's version of no 5, try etat libre d'orange tom of Finland. They sane aldehydes and dusty violet. Beautiful fragrance.
First of all, GREAT REVIEW. Secondly, even though my nose is broken because of the allergry throughout my whole life, but for me Chanel No.5 smells like VERY Luxurious Soap + Orange Tic Tacs (I know ,very descriptive;)) .It blows my mind when I think it was created in the 20s,because I think this perfume is SO modern- always modern.LOVE IT!
That sounds like a lovely description of NO.5 to me! Yes it was modern then and to me and you and many others modern still. Cheers and thanks so much FantasysMine for the lovely comment.
To be quite honest with you, I don't own a bottel of No.5 (yet),but I got the sample and it surprised me to the maximum.I smelled it many many years ago and in my faint memory of it and being told by many people that it's "too much" for them, I imagined it to be sickly floral fragrance , like some gladiolas can be.Even on fragrantica it is said that it's similar to Arpege by Lanvin ( that is excatly a "buquet of flowers that blooms and rotts during one day and in the end gets this old tangerine skin without a fruit kind of twist"), which is so not true. XO and Good Night from Poland.
How do you find this bottle travels? I have worn the EDP for years and I am ready to graduate to the pure Parfum, but I am nervous I will not be able to carry this style of bottle in my purse (an absolute must for me). How secure is the stopper?
Hi Catherine, this bottle is not made for travel in your purse. It would open and spill. The top is not made to seal securely. You could decant it into a travel atomizer. I hope this helps. Cheers.
Hi what is the pure oil of N°5 like? Is there any alcohol in it as the edp and the edt? Designer presumes are nice but I find that the smell doesn't last long because of the alcohol content and it burns away the oils. I always use Arabic oils and ouds as they are 100% pure concentrated oil with no alcohol.
Hi Ravinder. As far as I know there is no pure oil of No.5. The closest would be the Chanel No.5 pure parfum which has the smallest amount of perfumer's alcohol in it. It lasts a very long time on my skin. I hope you can test it out and see if you like its performance. Cheers!
I sprayed my EdT this morning, and just before I thought why not add a few dabs of the Parfum? And so I did! And I've found myself re-watching this fabulous video of yours. I appreciate that there are a lot of notes/ingredients that CHANEL do not disclose. However, with this formulation when it's still wet on the skin, I get a vibe of mint...am I the only one? xoxo
Dear Lanier,i must tell you how much i enjoy your video,s. I showed my girlfriend. We both love Chanel so. I too am collecting. I bought Coco after watching your video. It,s hard to say if itsa Coco day,or Chanel No. 5. I love Madmossile too,but Chanel No.5 always, and Coco. Thank you for such personable ,and wonderful video,s. Hoping you love your new home. We too moved last year. I think sometimes you just have to pick up and go. I have loved every minute. New places, new friends, and thanks to you,new Coco
hi lanier , what batch do you have their ? is it a batch after 2014 ? so newer ? if so does it smell as good as earlier bottles ? is it lasting ? only ive a wonderfull long lasting 6-- batch code but im wondering if a 9001 will be any good ? any ideas how the newest parfums stack up ? thanks hunny :)
Hi Gina, No batch will ever smell the same from batch to batch. There will be slight variations due to the growing conditions of the ingredients. this is what makes each batch unique. Like champagne from year to year. Change is what the universe is about. We should embrace change or be left behind in the past wondering what happened to the good old days. Cheers.
Lanier Smith hi Lanier , thanks for getting back to me ... I was just wondering if newer Chanel is a strong and lasting as previous years. However I think I may have had a few glasses of wine wen I wrote to you last ,as my question to you was a bit all over the place :) ,my apologies for that. I did get the newer bottle ( batch) of no 5 parfum and it does not last quite so well on skin but I'm not too bothered because it smells wonderful. ( Just as you knew it would) I need not have worried at all. Recently I discovered the wonderful Chanel no 19 parfum and EDP, Im really enjoying them , amazing clear notes , such beautiful iris etc . Love it ! Have a wonderful day !!
I wear no19 and I am a male, I never buy fragrance aimed at men, I have this as well. I also bought some Charlie and Limara body sprays again the ones aimed at men are just non starters for me.
I remember smelling No.5 from the bottle as a young child and disliking it, my mother used if for years until she became allergic to alcohol, as I have grown I acquired a love for it, recently my mother said that 2 generations before her are the ones to introduce No. 5 to her, who knew? 😊
I never liked this perfume (I'm 44 years old). I sprayed it on a card today, laid it down and walked away. Something clicked in me. It stirred my soul. I went back for the card. I sprayed it on my wrist and went home. I sat on my bed with that card fanning my face. I went back for that perfume today.. I cant tell you how anxious I am to go to the Bay Area for the pure parfum. I 100% appreciate this fragrance. Everything about it. Thank you for this review, I understand every word!
Chanel No. 5 more often than not tells a person when it is ready to become a part of them. It picks the date, the place and the perfect hour to say ...."I am yours" . I'm so happy you love it. Cheers and thank you Kimberly for a perfectly marvelous comment.
My wife tried No5 and No19 along a few others. Chanel Chance is what she settled only, its incredible, sweet, fruity, a little flowery and offends no one. I feel Chanel classic scents are works of art no doubt but perhaps dated, not in a bad way though.
In fact No. 19 was made specifically for Coco Chanel when she was an old woman. But, and this is a very big eception... No'19 is ageless, genderless and utterly fabulous . Cheers.
Just found a bottle of Chanel No 5 Extrait Parfum 201 . The 201 is the size . 1 oz. It has no barcodes , so I am assuming it's before 1989. I can smell it through the box though. The box is unopened. Tomorrow, I am going down to have it opened. I'm going to have to cut the label on the box that's inside of the sleeve. It's in pristine condition. The women who is selling it got it from a private sale. She sells antiques. Little worried about leakage. Even though para film is gas permeable , I'm still bringing it to wrap it to stop the fragrance from getting out. Lanier , it's so amazing . It's gotta have ambergris or something like civet in it. Animalic , but so smooth. I'm so nervous about opening it up. I did offer her $200. She accepted it. When she showed it to me , I told her she should look it up before giving me a price for it. Her eyes bugged out when she saw what it was selling for. Fingers crossed for tomorrow. Oh, wearinfg Floris's Elite. I got the discovery set , four 14 mls , for $55. Floris was having a sale. I love JF , 89 , Santal and Elite. You most likely don't remember , but you had a video about Floris , and the sale that they were having, and because of that video, I got on their mailing list. I'd like to thank you for that. Hope all is going well with you my fragrance friend.
@@laniersmith1798 Half of it evaporated , plus what I was smelling wasn't what the Chanel No 5 201 . There was another women in the shop. A coco powder , animalic , smooth floral . A heady floral. The shop owner was a bit upset that I wasn't as interested. It was a little flat. Might get the Guerlain Talc unopened. The Chanel had leakage . The perfume pushed out of the seal.
So.. I bought a bottle of the Chanel #5 Parfum because I’d heard it can be considered “unisex”, and I like wearing a signature scent so I wanted to try this “worlds most iconic Parfum”.. I read the reviews, both the artistic ones such as this, and the ones that say it smells like an old lady’s soap. I’m sorry to say it smells like an old lady’s soap on me, and I can not smell it on me, or others I put it on, when using just 4 drops. (unless I walk around with my nose pressed to my face.) I guess I don’t have the “body chemistry” to let the Parfum express it’s iconic-ness.. it’s very iconic-less on me. I won’t be buying it again, I’ll stick with my YSL.
As long as it is the original formula Gabrielle, I'm in! That 1986 reformulation edp is blasphemous! However, to charge 350 clams for the true scent invention 0f 1921, I feel, is highway robbery. Prior to 1986, the fragrance proper could be obtained for under 100.
