Great to see this, thank you. I'm watching from England and remember buying my first bottle of this when I was 18 in 1985. Back then it was called Chanel for Gentlemen. Wore it for several years and should revisit!
I just sampled this while at Neiman's this morning....Oh. My. God.....love at first sniff....no idea why I passed this by so many times, just gorgeous & classy stuff. I wouldn't have known bout it if not for this review, thank you Lanier
+Hollywood Scentstory You must have sampled the Eau de Parfum and not the EDT or the Concentree (discontinued) The EDP is the only one you can get in Neimans now...and YES it is gorgeous. Stay tuned for my side by side review of all three coming soon,
I love this scent, but wish I got better performance so the Concentree is my personal preference but man this stuff is just so good, love the green colour of the juice too! I prefer the bottle to the Concentree also. I really enjoyed hearing the story about you exchanging gifts on the ship! and of course, the classic Lanier cocktail intro! Always a pleasure to watch your videos!

Very nice mate. Happy new year to you. I am getting closer to 50 and I can remember having a bottle of this gem back in 97. From memory it's one of the ones I picked up on that trip to Italy at the time among a few others. Love the Vespa! 😄

I found a vintage bottle labeled Chanel for Men at a local shop for $1 and it changed the way I view fragrance forever. I splashed some on to watch your review, pure class. The peony note is absolutely beautiful.

+Lanier Smith My father used the after-shave version of this when I was growing up (still does, when he can get it abroad). Hence, it became the first ever cologne that I bought when I was 18, and it has long been one of my favorite men's fragrances. Revisiting it now, it still gives me the same sense of confidence, warmth and security it did then. I think it takes someone more mature to appreciate it's true subtle brilliance. Definitely not for the younger crowd, as it's not an immediate attention grabber, and is best in its middle phase after the opening has settled down a little bit in my view, when it sits a little closer to the skin and creates a subtle, barely perceptible but nevertheless undeniably magnetic allure. This indeed might be my favorite men's fragrance of all time, certainly my favorite masculine chypre. It's a shame that the concentree/parfum version is really more a flanker than anything else. It's a pleasant enough fragrance, but nothing compares to the original for me. The concentree is trying to hard to vie for attention. The calm, confidant, understated approach of the original is clearly superior.

Mr. Smith, after watching your videos for a number of years (and having a few message exchanges with you), I have finally purchased Chanel Pour Monsier (EDP) now available on chanel.com. (I have been mesmerized to try this scent, ever since seeing this video review of yours.) I ordered new year's eve eve and received the package yesterday. I ran to open the box and give my shirt one quick spray. What an incredible, masculine, "smart" scent. I am thinking this might be my new signature scent...which used to be Aramis. Cheers!
Hi. I have recently become intrigued with this cologne, although I have yet to actually smell it. I have read several reviews (and seen several videos) and one disappointing thing I have heard is that it does not last at all. I am afraid it might be another "Lauder For Men", where I LOVE the scent, but no longer wear it because it has no lasting power on me. I notice your note indicating that it wears for 8-10 hours. Do you find this to be the case even for the reformulation? (It is interesting how some fragrances seem to last longer on some people, rather than others.)
Happy New Year Lanier. I sniffed the concentrate version a while back and was a bit uncertain whether I liked it or not. Seemed to settle into a bit of a sour flowery vibe. But I would love to try the 1955 version. I think Chanel is a classy house. In fact, I wore Allure Homme for our New Years Eve dinner out. My wife bought me Ormande Jayne Man for Christmas. Love it and I can say their customer service is top notch.
Yes Allen there is a bit of a sour flower in the Concentree. I smell it too. AI bet you were dashing, and smashingly debonair in your Allure Homme. Oh and what a great Christmas you had as well. Cheers and here's to a fabulous New Year for you and yours Allen.

I very much love your reviews and your martinis! I don't know if you've ever reviewed Aramis, but I would love your thoughts. I have had two favorites over my lifetime: Lauder for Men and Aramis. I wore and loved both fragrances for years, but ultimately gave up, since the performance of both bottomed out on my skin. I have given both colognes "last chance" purchases--several times--until I can no longer bear it. I don't know if the reformulations killed the performance...or something about my skin did it. Either way, it is such a shame.

Never cared for the EDP ... my kids accidentally bought me the EDP instead of the EDT ....ended up giving it away .... the Pour Monsieur EDT in the only Fragrance I use , been using it since the 80's ......used others since.....but ended up using PM EDT exclusively for the past 15 years ... Classic Fragrance, not over the top like many of todays Super Fragrances ....but Understated, and timeless which imho equals class .

Since I have the new EDP, and never smelled the EDT or Concentree, I'm wondering what the differences are to an experienced nose. Thanks. Oh, I've heard a couple comparisons between Pour Monsieur EDT and Monsieur de Givenchy (another Classic fragrance). Thoughts?
Oh Lanier .... I would SLEEP in that fragrance room on the ship! LOL I so understand why you wanted that Pour Monsieur! My first perfume was Infini by Caron at 16 .... my family bought it for me for my birthday - In the Parfum ! I really did not think they would do this as it was expensive and sort of "weird" for a child then in those days . Darling ... I was born in the year Pour Monsieur !! :) I have bought Infini some time later ... yes it has changed and really not for the better. Its not like it used to be ... nothing close :( I so wanted your experience to be better than what I had ... yeah !!! It was !!! What a great start to 2015 !
I wonder whar would be your take on Rochas Moustache.... They had a "concetree" form back decades ago, but they recently re-released their original 1941 edition (the original edition) or is it a 1949 edition? I dont remember. My bottle is in the basement ( a dry basement). anyways, it is citrus, but also has lavender and herbs I think. It;s quite masculine, but smells a bit more busy than this chanel, even though its also a citrus forward scent.
Lanier, always classy and enjoyable and the new review of Penhaligon's 'Roaring Radcliff' is no exception :-) I always meant to ask the name or from where comes the opening title 'jingle' in these earlier videos of yours, like this one. Not quite a 'fragrance' q I'm afraid but nevertheless would love to know!

Lanier, I see the original Pour Monsieur EDT and Pour Monsieur Concentree EDT listed on Fragrantica. However, when I visited Chanel.com they only list Pour Monsieur EDP for sale. What's going on? Does this EDP replace the Original or the Concentree. I am totally confused.
Jim, sure as shooting the Concentree is gone from the Chanel website! The Pour Monsieur is there but in the old Concentree bottle. Interesting. I wonder if they have discontinued Concentree? Time for me to call Bud Marlowe private eye on the skids for an investigation. Can you make heads or tails of what they're doing? I've considered pulling-the-trigger on the Concentree but it just wasn't quite my style. Pour Monsieur (EDT) sounds more my style...if I could get my mitts on it, but I have no idea what this EDP version is? I may order a bottle because I can always send if back if I don't like it.

I didn't the bottle of Cuir de Russie I ordered (nice fragrances, just wasn't my style) so I sent it back and had 'em ship me a bottle of Coromandel, which I love. Someone on Fragrantica mentioned it was somewhere between PM EdT and the Concentree. This means nothing to me since i've tried neither one. Do you also have the Concentree?
I don’t bother with Mens Fragrances, they are toned down versions of Womens fragrances. So rather than buying this, I got myself a bottle of No19, always go for the women’s fragrances, that goes for talc, body spray, shower gel the lot. I just don’t like mens fragrance unfortunately, I want to as a man but I don’t. Rather than Lynx I buy Le Jardin
@@laniersmith1798 Thanks Lanier, as you know we live in an age of equality, WhAts sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander. I have never worn fragrances aimed at men, I won’t when there are more beautiful scents to buy.
Unfortunately, if you wish to smell good with this perfume you need to keep the bottle with you every where you go, it fades away in few minutes no matter how much you have sprayed it on you. What a waste of money.
