Recently picked up a 2003 sprinter, and I couldn't find the correct fuel filter for it, UNTIL.. I saw this video, and sure enough...for some reason the filter you're using in the video is the same one that is on my 2003. So, thanks for making this video, it saved me any more frustration trying to find the right filter.
Great video - thanks for posting. I haven't read the comments below so I may be repeating what has already been said: My mechanics said that I needed to fill the new filter with fuel before installing it. Also - the sensor may be difficult to remove - use a couple of flat head screw drivers to gently pry it loose. Change O rings on the sensor. Always replace the hose clamps - this is now a service bulletin item from Mercedes. I think that is all that is missing form this video.
Absolutely not unless it's a 2002-2003 and you are sure you are absolutely positively filling into the INLET holes not the outlet holes. Otherwise you contaminate the whole system with unfiltered diesel. 10 micron filtration is absolutely important for high pressure common rail systems. The proper way, as the manual states, is to install the filter, turn the key to "On", wait 10+ seconds, and repeat plenty of times. The low pressure fuel pump will fill the filter and return air bubbles back to the tank. You cannot treat a sprinter like an old ford.
@@AncapistanVan Exactly, and the 05-06 is not the same filter as the earlier years.... also that allen bolt is 5mm, for the 02-04 you need to use an air hose to pump air into the tank inlet as ya crank it up, ohterwise it won't start as the fuel pump isn't in the tank like 05-06
One should mention any O rings to replace and care must be taken not to over torque the two Torx screws mentioned. A 10,000 miles interval for the 5 cylinder 2.7L is OK but if one has used bio diesel with regular diesel in those miles it may be necessary to replace the fuel filter much sooner. This usually exhibits itself when you notice the power level is gradually being reduced and response is sluggish. Blended bio diesel is hard to avoid in some US regions.
I don't have volume on my phone right now, so I don't know if he mentions it or not, but I'm wondering if I need to get a fuel filter, for 2006 Dodge Sprinter, with a water sensor or not? The regular filter cost $30 and the one with water sensor is $110 !!😬
What is the size of the Allen wrench??? I’ve tried a 6mm too big, 5 mm is too small. Not sure if the previous owner changed to a standard size but it would be very helpful if you mentioned the Allen wrench size.
