You would make a brilliant nurse lecturer! I know how much you love your job and all the good you are doing as a nurse, but you would be amazing for students.

Hi Claire, this is such a useful video for me as i'm about to start prep for my final nursing degree assessment, which is to create an academic poster about a change management proposal! You've really seen me through the three years of my training and i love seeing what you're up to next. Lots of love xx

This was so helpful thank you! ♥ i didn't know that you could go straight in to gp practice NQ, i thought you had to a seperate course. I'd love to work in a gp practice! I'm doing the second part of my dissertation (we have it in patches now) and you have helped me through my entire degree :) x

Yeah you have to do separate training but you need the job first before you start that course :) 100% go for it! 🥳🥳🥳🥳 such a nice area to work in! :) x

Hi Claire, you are so inspiring its contagious!! I qualified in September 2020 and unfortunately never had a placement in a GP practice. It is something that I am thinking about increasingly due to the 1:1 care one can give a patient instead of running around 8 patients all shift and none of them getting the quality of care they deserve. I am actively seeking moving away from the ward right now. However, 1) I dont know where to start to find jobs in a GP practice as they are never advertised on the nhs jobs sites I use. And 2) without prior experience how do I begin to even demonstrate that I would make a great GPN (I do believe that I would). I was formerly a principal officer for a local authority doing housing project management. I studied business management and did my diploma in management studies in 2005 and change management was one of the modules as was managing people etc etc. Back then becoming a nurse was never on the cards - but now. Using all those management theories in nursing feels somewhat like I have come full circle but I can add more value as a nurse now. I'm excited for the future! I share your enthusiasm for a good theory! Inertia was a work my management lecturer used all the time when talking about businesses and people who were resistant to change. I've never forgotten that word! It basically means the tendency to do nothing - which us very typical of bureaucratic institutions... Do any spring to mind to you? Ha ha. Seriously I think the NHS doesnt suffer from inertia, rather the employees do - often people at the top see the reasons and need for change but those at the bottom believe it to be the other way around which is interesting because sometimes it can create a stand off and resistance. I love management theory!!! Definitely a place for it in nursing these days - or a place for understanding it although its not for everyone of course! Thank again.

Morning Paula :) Yes!! GP is where it’s at 💙 If there’s nothing on NHS Jobs, look on the practice website, or call the practices directly and ask them. Some will advertise on their website instead. Also you can contact your local CCG and send them your cv / cover letter and they can help too. You’ve got so many transferable skills from placements either way. Observations, wounds, ECG’s, medications, oxygen / nebulisers, bloods (if you had training), injections, loads!! This is all things we do. So use the transferable skills and sell it to them. Also your business side would be perfect to speak about too because GP is still a business and it’s about hitting QOF targets to make their money too.. so if you were to mention that side they may love you! Haha xx

@@ClaireCarmichael thanks Claire. I followed the links to the GPN SNN and then went to your twitter feed and saw Health Education Derbyshire tweeting about a fellowship programme so got in touch with them about the fubding for training. I received a reply this morning - they told me that the fellowship was for NQN - I qualified September 2020 but due to covid they are thinking of extending it so the manager said to send her my CV and she would circulate around local practices that have shown an interest in taking on NQNs. So just seeing this video and me following a few links has already (in less than 24hrs) set the ball rolling! So thank you. I will take your advice on board too about my business management qualifications. Well, it will also be on my CV of course but I'll make reference to it given the opportunity. I'll keep watching the videos and would be interested in joining the network - as former student rep and part time officer for the student union I am always keen to inspire and help new (and old) students. 😊🙏
