: ) What makes the string behave like locking tuners in this video is not the higher or lower number of wrappings (less is better) but the way the string is knot around the post and MOST OF ALL the way you tune your guitar (please see related videos) :)

Some time ago I found this video, back when I was very frustrated about my guitar constantly going out of tune. I tightened the Grover tuners on my Dean, and mounted the strings as described in this video. Now i´ve been playing for about a week, without the need for retuning! Incredible, how such a simple thing can have a huge effect on my playing. Thank you so much for this! I even cancelled my order for locking tuners...

I've been locking my strings for 40 years, I'm suprised other players have'nt been doing it that way also. I read about it in "Guitar Player" magazine back then. Also another tip I picked up there also was to use WD 40 for cleaning off your strings at the end of the night and that will make them come alive again and for the following night. Great channel Mr. Frudua!

Use a pair of sturdy needle nose pliers & make a strong tuning-post diameter bend about 1 to 1½ posts past the low E string post, for the bass E string Increase to a span of about two for the highest strings And yes always turn so that the the strings wraps from top to bottom & from inside to out

@perryinjax I recommend cahnging the strings one at a time and retuning each time each string. If this not possible for some reason just put the guitar on the table with a support under the first frets and it will be ok.

Hello, Mr. Frudua, and thank you for these great tutorials! However, I've got a question: in this video, you show how to tune a "Gibson style" guitar with that kind of headstock. What about a Squier Bullet Strat, which has a different headstock (by the way, I have a bridge that allows for tremolo use, but I've never used it and it seems it can't even be used, since the bridge is screwed tight into the body, so I guess it's... fixed?).
@omri1098
@omri1098 10 лет назад
hello, frudua first it's a very good and detailed video! i'm now practicing. it worked on the 1st string pretty well. but on the other strings pretty bad. i'm pretty sure it's something in my technique, so i will ask these questions: 1. after u have putted the string inside the bridge. do you insert the string inside the tuning key until the length of the string ended, or else leaving some gap on it. 2. this a a method for regular modern strings of a guitar. What about vintage style and bass tuners? Hope u will understand my word and give your best to help me. Omri.

Hi, thank you for posting these videos. Why do you leave any string tension when rapping? Wouldn't that just add extra string that can give away and thus be bad for holding the tune? I thought that was the point with locking tuners. As little string around the tuner as possible. Thanks
@mrkite89

Meglio ancora?
@FruduaTv
@FruduaTv 14 лет назад
@przecpany Yes., the videos makes some suggestions in this direction.
@FruduaTv
@FruduaTv 12 лет назад
@Genera1Smok3 It hasn't been the changin but the gauge you mounted which is most probably different then the older one (or another bradn of same gauge strings which has a different tension). did you mount a lighter gauge? Check out the truss rod you probably has to release it a bit.

rly great hints! they work perfectly. but when applying your technique to the b and high e strings it gets quite difficult to handle cuz the bent string slips away. got any extra tips? or maybe i just have to practise a bit more :D

depending on where the fret buzz is as well couldn't another problem be the bridge? I noticed this myself when mounting the same gauge strings that the bridge on my epiphone sg seemed to have gotten lower. great video though, I've been thinking there was probably a better way to wrap the strings than what I have been doing.

"Yes" to using this only on a fixed bridge? Or "Yes" to using the string wrapping on the gear post for both style of guitars? Thank you Frudua, and HAPPY NEW YEAR to you and yours! ~Kevin~

Found your website yesterday and the detail you put into building a guitar is outstanding. My question for this video is I notice on the left side you turn the tuning pegs counter clock wise when restringing. But on the right side you tune clockwise. Is there a difference? And donation has been sent!
@JustinNoOriginBand
@JustinNoOriginBand 9 лет назад
jcoo71 On a headstock with all the pegs on one side all of the strings should come off the right side of the tuner post. On a guitar with 3 on each side, the first 3 strings are to the right and the 3 high string come off to the left. that lines the strings up with the slots on the nut. You probably know this by now though.

I've reached this conclusion after I have tried to mount the whammy bar and move it so as to create that tremolo effect, but the whammy bar wouldn't move so I stopped for fear not to damage anything. Anyway, I need to restring my guitar and I was wondering what I should do - is it ok to use the sae method you've shown in this video? (except for the higher strings, which would probably have to be mounted just like the thicker strings, I suppose)... Could you please help me? :)

Question, question! When I restring my guitar (Fender Strat Mexican), I insert the string inside the hole and hold it in my hand, then I tune it up while holding so the string wraps as it likes. This way I have one wrap on every string. How does this method sound for you?

My luthier is a certified Martin, Gibson, and Fender tech. He showed me this same way and it works great for tuning stability. My only comment would be in the number of wraps mentioned in the explanation. Maybe I heard it wrong, but 3-4 (low) and 5-6 (high) are too many. The video shows fewer wraps, which is the way my luthier showed me. The lowest (thickest) strings might only have one wrap. Since you usually eyeball the slack, another wrap or two won't hurt especially on the thinnest strings.
@cornstar1253
