2 things. 1, you told us the 2 settings within the first minute -- THANK YOU! I hate watching over half a video and still waiting for getting to the point of what the video is about. 2, you gave us not only the why of which you change those settings, but also the why of which DVR defaults that way. Thanks again!
@psy0rz
@psy0rz 4 года назад
yeah..he changed the settings...changed them back to default..then gave the example of what davinci does by default, and THEN finally changed the setting and showed what it actually does. ...and then repeated everything AGAIN.

Super handy thing to know, especially for people who are trying to fiddle around and see what works. I was always curious why my picture looks way different than in After effects, when I put the Lumetri effect on and change the contrast and saturation. This makes alot more sense now, thank you very much :)

For subtle single colour adjustment, I use printer lights which adjusts the offset instead of gain. I know this is primarily for white balance but I find it super useful to get a nice balanced image.

Thanks for that and all the other tipps around Resolve. I also booked the online-course which was very satisfying. You are really a pro, not only because the knowledge of the matter itself but also because you also always explain the why to follow the instructions and the consequences. How only can you manage to always sound quite equal. I mean, your voice is always the same, the rhythm the same are you human? Even your favorite phrase in the course "let's undo" just always perfectly the same sound :) Thanks again, looking forward to get more tipps in the future.

Also be aware that if you set the luminance mix to zero, the luminance color curve (Y) no longer functions. Took me a while to figure out why this kept happening.

Great videos. Personally I leave S-curve on, because you can do the linear contrast with the shadows and highlights luma rings, so having the contrast slider work the other way makes sense. That way I can choose which I want without needing to change settings, or mix between the two types.

That's a great tipp!!! Thanks! But did you know, that you can save the settings as the default setting for new projects, so you don't need to make the change every time? Press "Shift+9" to get to the Settings Click on "presets" Save your current (optimized) settings as a new preset Right-click on the newly created preset and select "Save As User Default Config" That's all! I personally have set the "Color science" to "DaVinci YRGB Color Managed" as well. But I'm still a beginner with DaVinci Resolve.

Great video. I like the idea of working with less hidden signal tweaking. With contrast s-curve deactivated, you loose pivot, so workflows can change. So for example for grading raw (in BMD Color Space / Gamma, no LUT ...) I need a curve instead of pivot ...
