READ ME!!! I wasn't sure exactly what was limited to Free/Studio so didn't include within the video however, check the RU-vid Chapters! Anything Studio only has the Studio tag within it (if they're not there yet... give me a few ha I'm catching up!) Hopefully that clears it up. Next, here's more good stuff I missed/skipped/accidentally cut out the edit because I was in a rush to get on a plane to NAB 😄 - Magic Masks in Fusion have got a big speed boost (yay!) - New Multi Poly tool in Fusion - Awesome little tool for creating custom shapes with one node (its on favourites toolbar!) - Fusion Viewer is now Color Managed too (swear I recorded that bit but can't find it ha!) - New Layout options in Fusion - Super useful for ultrawide monitors - Referenced Fusion clips! - New Audio Options in Inspector - Under the View heading - Scroll down abit - Replace Live Production - Totally missed this TBH - Advanced Volumetric Rendering in Fusion - Missed this too! I'll have a play with it I'll make mooooore videos on loads of these cool new features as we go!
@@MrAlexTech Did they fix the slow motion sound, in Premier you can stretch the audio with the rate stretch and it sounds great slowed down, in Davinci when you slow down a sound effect it sounds really bad and tiny, like laryngitis, I hope they can fix it.
I live near an 8 lane freeway that recently opened. They erected a noise abatement wall, nevertheless the background noise is off the charts in my neighborhood. The background noise isolator function is reason enough for me to get the DR19.
Am a n00b to video editing, but as soon as I saw what you can do with AI in Studio I bought it. The fact you get all the updates for life makes it a lot easier to justify the cost.
Yep. I gave them my money years ago. It’s a smart investment and the sooner you get in the game, the better. Cheaper if you buy it now I’m guessing. Also, when you pay early you send BM a message that you’re a committed customer and with that additional earmarked funding they can focus more heavily on improving the software.
@stephantual You sacrifice crashes for performance, DaVinci can run really poorly depending on what you're doing, even with a beefy computer like mine, but I guess it does have lots of features to negate that
@@jrodd13it really is heavy. Gotta turn off color nodes to playback the video. It's understood tho.. I wonder if Premiere is like 90% CPU dependent, then how much GPU+CPU dependent is Davinci, as I understand it relies more on GPU
Looks like the difference between Background and Ambience in the Voice Separator is: Background is things like noise/AC units/crowds/etc. while Ambience is things like reverb or echo from the location. At least, that's how it seems from BM's breakdown
My mind is absolutely blown over the transcription update! Been 4 months into a massive docu series and while it was great before, literally was the recommendation that I needed! Feel like I just got hours back to my life! 😅
Hi Alex, whilst I haven’t used this feature in Resolve, in my line of work (audio forensics), the difference between “background” and “ambience” tends to imply dynamic v static sounds. For example, the constant drone of a dishwasher in the background that lasts most or all of the shot would be a “static” sound (or “ambience”), the sound of the dishwasher being slammed shut would be a “dynamic” sound (or possibly what DaVinci mean by “background” in this application). Not sure if that helps or not but thanks for the video!
they put Dehancer AND Neat Video into Resolve, two of the most popular plugins, AND the popular beauty features from CapCut AND Audio shit we lost when switching from Premiere. Finally Resolve is going from King to Emperor.
Purchasing Davinci Resolve was one of the best decisions I've ever made. This is mind blowing. I am so excited to mess around with all the new features!
Public service announcement - I have no affiliation with Audiio but I have genuinely preferred their music over competitors like Motion Array. It sounds more like composed music by film composers. Audio ducking... ducking amazing! I actually LOLed at "Da Vinci Resolve's... um... brain... the little man... the little wizard..." There were way too many good ones to shout out just one... but yeah, love most of these.
I've decided Artlist is my favorite. I found Audiio's library to be rather small, and ran into not finding what I want (I let my subscription end two weeks ago).
The Music Remixer probably works using phase cancellation. It isolates the vocals/drums/bass whatever and then phase cancels it against the original. It's a technique I used to use back in the day when I wanted to isolate a vocal from a track (for remixes and stuff) using the instrumental version or vice versa. It's a really cool technique and not too tricky to do with good quality tracks.
Another audio feature that I saw on the forum is VST sidechaining. There are so many great VST options for multiband ducking, which are far superior to what Resolve has. However, I've had loads of problems (bugs and crashes) with VST plugins while trying to do audio in Resolve, but if BMD has been also fixing these problems then I'd love to give this a try.
@@MrAlexTech I think I heard you mention Alex Audio Butler before and I just found your video on it again. I believe that is still single band (volume only) ducking, correct? With multiband ducking it uses the frequency response of the vocal to duck only those frequencies down in the music instead of turning the entire music track down. There are lots of spectral processors that are used for this (Trackspacer and Soothe2 are very common) and recently a free spectral processor called The Masker was made by tech students at a university in Italy which can do this same kind of thing.
Tried yesterday and I’m getting strange phasing from the plugin, like delay compensation not working. Will look into it more and try different plugins.
WWOOOAAAA! That's a big update! The Audio Remixer will be very welcoming. Will also be looking forward to a better auto subtitle support. Would be awesome if we could animate the subtitles or convert them to Text+
That last color feature is like Lumetri color in Premiere. What a time saver. Blackmagic design had a massive hardware and software release. Everything is jaw dropping.
They're there within the advanced. It's not as simple as a slider but the controls are there. I'll figure out exactly what each option does and make a video!
I was just saying Dialogue Separator is something I wanted a few weeks ago in your comments and people said DR would never do it. Such a huge feature for me personally.
14:50 this feature is gonna be absolutely INSANE for removing lyrics from music. Like, there are some songs I love to bits, but the vocals don't always fit the vibe, when editing I like to listen to music without lyrics (it throws me off). 90% of these additions will be amazing, can't wait to try it out!
Kind of funny how the music remixer is like Kanye's stem player, but now possible with AI without stems. Amazing. That'll be golden for avoiding copyright claims and using different tempos of instrumentals mixed in with an actual song.
Fantastic, 10:03 we just need being able to add curves to Fusion FX keyframes in the edit page next also being able to save bunch of Fusion/OpenFX together as presets in the Powerbin (without needing to apply them on adj clip or other workarounds).
There are times when even a retired bloke has stuff to do and Davinci Resolve is put on the back burner. All it takes is Alex's, second to none, enthusiasm and talent for imparting knowledge, to get me back on the keyboard trying all the new toys. Thanks Alex for your videos.
Thanks a million for putting this out so fast, Alex! Loved it. I was going to wait until the buggy period is over- nah, I‘m off to install right now. Just about to edit loads and big for me stuff (for my music channel). So much cool and helpful new/upgrades.
That beach shot in the film look creator section looks like the NHK footage from NAB in 1989 (or around there) where they were showing off the new analog high resolution format. I just stared at it for several minutes...it was amazing.
The film look creator is ace!! It's probably going to convince me to stop being lazy and shoot more Log 😄 (that beach shot was one of my mine from the Lumix S5iix!)
Well . . . there's another old fart here besides me 😁. I was using an Amiga, Video Toaster, and Lightwave way back then (1990), with a Hi 8 camcorders and editing deck. Things sure have changed since then, haven't they?
@@swdw973 Hi-8 was a great little format for it's time. I can remember one inch reel to reel, 3/4 inch, and of course Quad. So yeah...I'm getting up there. But I always dreamed about the future...no tape and no moving parts. And who would have thought that $80,000 color correction software would be free now!
There's no doubt you're having a great time with 19 and you always inspire me; thanks Alex. Beyond that here's a BIG thanks for all the work, this was a helluva lot of it. Great stuff!
Alex here is the difference btwn Background and Ambience: Background is the actual noise, like a train or a car Ambience is the way dialog reverberates. So if you have a vocal in a very echoy room, ambience will reduces the echo. There was this GOYO plugin that did exactly this, with exactly same knobs, where Ambience made de dialog thighter, less reflective from the envoierment.
Really happy with how resolve starts adding audio features that bring it closer to DAW-quality. Hope, they keep at it, so I can stay inside resolve when editing audio.
The last three years being a new editor and using Davinci have been amazing. I love the editor and they've really kept it exciting with all these features coming out all the time...and enhancements to increasing my workflow speed being I'm a crappy editor doing my own stuff lol.
Wow! Nearly every feature you mentioned is very useful. Solves a lot of current issues and fills in a lot of gaps. I can't wait to ise most of this. This is so much more stuff than I expected.
This is some really good stuff they have done, im super excited for the new dialog separator. Hats off to Black Magic for making the Studio version a one time buy, upgrade to Studio 19 for no extra cost, winning.
Film Look creator looks a little bit premiere‘ish! I like how Blackmagic update all those things to easify most things! Thank you Alex for keeping us updated 🥰
I used djpro to split audio elements from music, now DR has it built in, that's fantastic! Love how they're adding all these cool features and the software doesn't feel bloated and confusing. Kudos to em 👍
Ooh I'm really pleased to see audio ducking added. I was going mad manually mixing two vocal tracks recently 😅 Also very happy to see the improvements to auto syncing audio, ran into that problem recently. Big update for audio handling from the looks of it - very happy!
Nice as always. Always excited about these new updates.. definitely definitely excited for better favorite tab . A lot of small stuff goes along way . personally I don't download beta anymore . However I do look forward to this in six months or however long . So many good features . Course the two big ones I'm still waiting for it being able to change the size of audio clips automatically and I was waiting for better subtitles but then some people release some scripts that fix that problem for me . Which works better than I could've imagined . Took away the only reason I used CapCut . Anyway love resolve love the channel love editing have a great one .
Dude, Davinci Resolve is one badass DAW. that ducking feature for Dialog isn't some magical black box like what im seeing here. It takes some finessing
I had a look at the new features list and was initially like 'eh, I guess' - but I knew I could trust you to dig out the hidden gems and put everything in context! Actually a bit excited for this release now
I was stoked to get the studio version when they were giving the speed editor with the purchase; yet life had other plans and I couldn’t. Since then, I was never all that interested in the few things I was missing as I didn’t think I would get a huge benefit from them. *But now* … Now there are some options that I would be overjoyed to get into using. So, looks like it’s time to buy the studio version. And Alex, you could have gone on another twenty plus minutes and I would have stayed and watched. You and Casey do such fantastic content, how could I not keep going??
Whoa! So many new things! Between this and Casey's video of the new Fusion stuff too I'm super excited to try it all out. I'm actually running a couple of projects right now that could benefit from many of these upgrades. I wonder how long it will take to get out of Beta
I hope they fix the nested timeline issues (nesting a timeline of a different resolutions only allows it being cropped, drop shadows don’t carry over, etc.). I love the new features being added but there’s some core issues I hope get polished up soon! 😁
Mr Alex, I've been your fan since I first discovered you when you only had 10K subscribers. I loved your 5-min Friday series, and that's how I learned DR when it was still Ver 15 back then. Look at you now!! May I suggest your next video? I'd like to see your workflow if I had 3 camera angles from a podcast. I'd love to use the AI transcripts to text edit and clean up the podcast, and then have the option to choose a specific camera angle, or maybe use B-roll. More power to you!
This may not be an issue for 99% of DVR users but for those of us with visual impairment the dark grey on black UI is tiring to use. I find it hard to pick out active vs inactive menu item, hard to pick up scroll buttons, and many more. The black interface is obviously essential for colour editing but elsewhere it would be great to have an option to enhance the contrast and boundaries between parts of the screen.
Much to my delight, Ye have brought much light to the world of us wandering in the darkness of Resolve. In Short, This is a very useful video. It was really good too. Thanks for sharing your abundant knowledge on all things Resolve.
The constant drop rate of banging features and super smart quality of life features is honestly astonishing. I bought the studio version and I love love love it!
Audio remixer looks good, we've had this for a while in DJ software good to see it here, will be good to see it come to clip level so you can tweak parts on an underlying track without using multiple tracks but a great addition none the less
I really hope they someday expand the music remixer to do what Audtition does, where you can remix an audio track to match the video length. Guess I'll have to continue using my super legitimately purchased Adobe Audition. Audio ducking is also fantastic, I know a few people who were using a paid plug-in to do it previously. The new audio sync settings are also great, I use them for every video since I record majority of my audio in OBS but record my face cam in camera. Learned the previous method from you and the new way makes it even more convenient and flexible!
A lot of great new features in this. I do wish the Audio Ducking allowed for multiple tracks to duck the audio, but if I need to I do have a Fairlight preset for ducking that I've been using for all my projects and I can just use that. Still, overall, very cool stuff and I'm looking forward to the stable build.
long video for sure... not a 5 minute Friday lol but stuck in there as it was all really good to know, and so many great features for the Studio user. Great work Alex as per usual
Fantastic update. The remixer looks fun. What would really help me out would be a music resizer which seamlessly reduces or extends the length of the music track to fit the action
I wish they would let us do masking from the edit page like Premier Pro. And also have a layered version tab for small VFX work and Motion Graphics instead of using Fusion and Nodes.
@mralextech I'll have to play around with it but I think the reason that the difference between background ambient would be hardiner for you to see is because, as far as I know, you do most of your editing from the sound of your studio and you likely already have great audio. I think background would be outside noise, (trains, planes, cars, people, etc...) and ambient would be the natural buzz of the lights, electricity, and stuff in the room when silent. I hear this a lot when editing a scene and cutting from one take to the next for different camera angles
Alex, you and your tutorials have made the difference for me in editing. I'm a novice at it but you have helped me so, so much. Thank you for this. I'll make sure and download the 19 studio soon. We depend on you!
I was really hoping the music remixer would do what premiere does where you could take a 3:00 song and stretch it as long as you wanted. That’s what would Be really helpful
Regarding ‘background’ vs ‘ambient’ I would test audio recorded in a room with some reverb/echo. I’d guess that background refers to wind, street noise, etc. whereas ambient reduces room echo, etc.
If this isn’t a good reason to upgrade to studio I don’t know what is. So many features that premiere pro has and some better. Glad I started making the switch
I was worried about how i'm going to learn about all the new changes and then your video pops up. Can always rely on you for everything relating Resolve! Tysm!
Great review. The first thing I’m going to do is use the ambient background noise remover to get rid of your background music. Then I can finish watching it. :)
Hey Alex. Great analysis of DR19! I like it!! Never used it, however, I can maybe guess what the difference is between background and ambience... Maybe what it is doing is looking for, say, what we hear in a noisy restaurant. Now, suppose you want to hear the characters talking, but also want a little "ambience", like for example, there is live music playing over the restaurant speakers. So, do you want the ambient music to be louder, or the background restaurant customers talking to be louder? Just a guess, but it's an awesome feature for sure.
15:20 ambience is probably a feature to clean out reverb or room reflections from the voice. Or it could be that Davinci differentiates between background noise (ambience) and music/other stuff (background). I'll do some tests as soon as I get my hands on it!
BlackMagic Design is a total gift to creators like us! Their constant innovation levels the playing field between us and the big studios. Thanks for always doing these updates breakdowns!
These are awesome updates. Why do I feel like we're all on borrowed time for the one-time purchase, free updates, and no subscription fees. I'll enjoy it while it lasts.
Really wished the Transcription feature gets a "repetition" feature or "bad takes" feature of some sort. For example, if you are reading a script and have 2-3 bad takes, you could give the tool the entire script afterwards and it will filter out the bad takes or highlight the one good one. But, maybe they add this before the full update releases.
Always appreciate your tutorials; concise yet witty (as a Brit--Americanized--it just locks me in just that much better, lol). I consider you part of the DR Trilateral Commission: you, Casey and Darren. (Well, a tip of the Tricorn hat to Jay Lipman too, so Quaderalteral Commission? Anyhow, really looking forward to DR 19. I've been a Studio user for about two years, and you have been a great resource. Thanks!
