I just got a is300 and I have a code p0980. The trans fluid is over filled and I’m not sure if they put the right fluid into the car either. I’ve asked around about flushing it to see putting new fluid in and everyone says that I can mess the trans up. I’m just a little confused because that’s one of the things why the code is up
Putting the wrong fluid in can be dangerous for sure. And if you flush it, it doesn’t actually remove all the fluid since some of it will still sit up in the transmission. So you technically have to do multiple flushes to get it fully clean. But I mean, I see no issue in just letting some fluid out if the right fluid is in fact in there. Or flushing it and making sure you don’t add too much seems fine.
I have a lot of friends and mechanics telling me that 2.5- 3 quarts is too low but I searched it up and I see the exact same videos telling me it’s 2.5 quarts
