How easy is a modified HF tire changer to use? Here is the answer .. ... .. its easy easy easy.
Parts I used: Steel various sizes. It is all just what I had in the shop. It just has to fit close (not perfect). Assorted bolts and nuts that I had in the shop.

Thanks for your insight and walking us through that step-by-step. Our work habits are very similar. Except for I don't have a big shop, nor a welder. Your manual tire changer modification looks the best, and most durable so far!

So, I bought my Harbour Freight Tire Changer tonight. I did not need it at this time. But after successfully changing tires myself using only tire irons on the garage floor last week for my old car's steel rims, it got me thinking that I could do even more. So I watched a million videos, but was initially disappointed in Harbor Freights Tire Changer's reputation of scratching rims. Then I saw the use of the Duck Head by you and another RU-vidr, and knew I would eventually get their changer and mod it! - Like I was saying, I did not need it at this time, having just got done putting several tires on my 2 cars, and 2 lawn mowers. BUT, then it went on sale for $39.99 AND w/ a 25% off coupon this weekend only, the price came down to just $29.99, so I could not pass it up. (Of course, the total project price will be triple that when done, but still). - I also stopped at 2 hardware stores and got the drop-in anchors for my concrete floor, the Setting Tool, and the perfect bolts and washers. I've never put in those anchors, but once I learned of their existence, I knew I had to have them, given the negative amount of garage room I have at any 1 given point in time. Of course, you wouldn't know what I mean. Anyway, thanks for your video.

Bruce L's channel has a video that shows you the dimensions and step by step to build the tire changer adapter. Cost me less than $40 CAD to build one. The only item I cannot build is the centre cone. I use an ABS reducer/increaser coupler instead for a couple of CAD dollars. Some guy on the internet is selling the tire changer adapter for like $500 USD. What is the point of DIY if you going to spend that kind of money.

I'm a big believer in the red hat brand concrete anchors. I used them on my bridge crane vertical supports, but the use that proved them was the garage, to hold the bottom plate to the concrete slab. Real pain to put in the anchor "L" bolts while the concrete is wet, and trowel around them without knocking them back and forth preventing a good concrete set around them. Good construction video. Captive hardware is always a good detail.

👍When i bought it most sites called it duck head. Just stumbled when saying it. Jokingly called it a duck foot off camera, and for some reason, that kept stucking it my head.

@@topdragster365w ....Just take the Harbor Freight round pipe to a metal shop and try it out on what they have in stock. That is what I did and they cut me a foot of it.

Yes it is, modeled after lucid autowerks tire changer. Sixtyfiveford has a video of a simple "no damage tire change bar" with the duck head on it. Simple and effective.

Nice job definitely got a few good ideas. I want a mod for smaller wheels. They got one but it another 49$ , I want to be able too do small tires on it too.

biggest issue i have is finding the right steel without spending a fortune trying to make this thing,i did make one with what i had but havent tried it out yet im think if you keep the bar to the bottom while spinning the tire off will greatly reduce the stress on the upper metal

Don't have the exact measurements right now. But id is big enough to fit around the shaft. OD is the size of the biggest piece of aluminum I had.

I.d. of the pipe I used is 2.084. (It was just a piece of scrap pipe). Od of the center tube of my tire changer is 1.99. Not sure if all of the tire changers will be the same.

LOL don't need to do all that sorry been doing this for over 30 years and no Mars on rim...just use your red pry bar drill hole at end and attach duck bill mounting piece on end and go in a circle lol its LIKE CHOPPING DOWN A TREE FOR 1 TOOTH PICK
