There's a lot of research supporting the hypothesis that visuals impact our behavior. The things we see affect our habits. Here is some of the research:
news.cornell.edu/stories/2015...
www.nbcnews.com/health/health...
www.psychologytoday.com/us/bl...
/ how-youtube-is-addictive
It's clear that changing our environment is one of the best ways to break bad habits.

The first mistake is never the one that ruins you. It is the spiral of repeated mistakes that follows. Missing once is an accident. Missing twice is the start of a new habit

Thank you for sharing this concept with the world. Amazing message!! I do this with sugary treats. I keep them out of the house so it’s not a visual temptation for me. If someone brings it home, it goes in the trash, and they know that now, so it’s no surprise to them. I am a recovering sugar addict so moderation doesn’t work for me. My kids can enjoy them at birthday parties etc but at home, it’s a safe zone and we can count on healthier options. Also, I make healthy treats at home instead. 😊👍

You know what aspect of life you could make a HUGE difference in? Kids classrooms. The amount of visual clutter is astounding. I think it literally starts to develop ADHD in the poor kids.

I was just thinking that when I visited my kindergartner’s class today. They had a Thanksgiving celebration in class. I noticed that every inch of wall space was filled with something. Of course it was all classroom appropriate but there was so much to look at I was overwhelmed.

I appreciate this comment as a teacher. We learned in trainings that kids are going to look away/stare off/get distracted, so it's better to have constructive/academic distractions. However, I've been decluttering my classroom and hadn't thought of visual clutter. Thanks for bringing it to light.

My now 43 year old ADHD son had a really hard time with one classroom and yes- it was the one where the teacher had cluttered walls, a cluttered classroom and she was disorganized in her work as well. Normal kids survived but my son and several others with ADHD had a very difficult year.

Now that I've decluttered my bathroom I am more inclined to use the stuff that I left on the surface. I see the lotion, sunscreen or hair gel and reminds myself that they are there for a reason so I probably should use them. I don't keep toothpaste out though because I don't need to - I quite like brushing my teeth.

This is so true and I am struggling with it lately. I have two ways to get to public transport after work (when I'm hungry). One of them has about seven fastfood places in a row. I kid you not. The other route is ok. I need to start taking the non fastfood route. Also, a bag of almond or cashews in my bag helps a lot to fight temptation. Thanks!

I think the habit I need to fix most is not drowning in the never ending cycle of “to do” around here. I have to actually leave the house for awhile to stop thinking about what all needs tending to or the actual constant “doing.” For that, out of sight, out of mind is def true for me. Although the tv can actually help with that if the show is good enough or long enough. Some of us are wired the other way tho. Almost like being masochistic or being a glutton for punishment. Like it’s hard for me to “let myself” even watch a thing for too long for the specific purpose of “taking a break.” Just as hard for me to actually leave the house for the same reasons also.

Love this! And love your last message- words and conversations can also contribute to your habits not only visual stuff. Thank you for sharing your wisdom. It’s a bummer though that you don’t speak of Jesus in any of your stuff being it’s your background. I realize you can reach more people keeping him out (sadly) maybe another channel to think about? The way you explain and simplify stuff. I feel could be very helpful. ❤ obviously you do you- just saying I would follow that channel as well.
