quick way to change sanding disc without moving the table. my table doesn't locate into the same place every time so i have to recalibrate my miter gauge every time i move the table so this is how i avoid that.
these paper discs usually tear when removed unless the platen is waxed, some discs might not need it but ive never had a problem with discs loosening, they are still plenty stuck.

I know it’s probably not your style but I’d love to see a workshop tour, mainly because your workshop isn’t the typical RU-vidrs workshop in any sense. You rarely see a real world, commercial workshop. Working my way through your back catalogue, stunning work, keep it up. The house reno is equally impressive.

Picked up a couple of tips. I always removed the table on mine to make it easier to remove. Saving the backer from the old sanding disc is a good idea. I would never have used wax on the plate in fear the new disc wouldn't stick. It looks like you have a professional type shop so I am sure you change your disc's far more often than I do but I have never seen anyone buy Briwax by the gallon, but again I am a hobbyists. Thanks for posting I will definitely try a couple of these tips.

Holy Crap!!! That's how you do it! I wish you had posted that two weeks ago, I spent 3 hours removing a disc that had been on for years, eventually got the backing paper and adhesive off then totally bodged applying the new one. Great work love the channel keep em coming.

Sheep-Shearing Comb and Cutter grinding discs are a similar size (300mm dia) and are glued on with Latex glue, clamped for at least an hour and then allowed to dry. The longer its clamped and dried, the longer the grinding disc paper lasts. The Latex allows the emery paper to peel off the grooved steel disc relatively easily and is easy to clean up, it just rubs off. They are a little different from your sanding discs in that they spin much faster (2850rpm) and has a 1% curve to create a hollow grind on the cutters.

That's a world of difference to when I used to change sanding disks on a 3-foot diameter plates 50 years ago. Then it was a two man job to take the plate off the sander, soak it overnight in water to soften the adhesive, remove as much as possible of the paper and adhesive and then scrape the remaining adhesive off by hand to get a clean metal face. Sand paper disks were not self adhesive and were attached with some rough smelling glue that I can't remember the name of. Pairs of disks were done at a time so that they could be pressed face together overnight to let the glue cure. There were four disks on the go so that one was on the machine, one for immediate change and two for refacing.

Really good technique! The wax is a nice touch.

Wax the platen ?!?! What? Genius.

Nicely done I use a similar technique and it rarely comes off as clean. Lacquer thinner makes the glue melt and it can be wiped off or removed with a bit of wood shaped like a chisel while its soft. Where do you get adhesive discs so big?

I have about 20 large discs that don't have adhesive on them. I ran out of the old adhesive, and the brand seems to be no longer available. Can you suggest what I should use?

Just wanted to say, I really enjoy your videos but for some reason I missed this one. I am concerned about one thing in the video. As per the video title this is supposed to be a tutorial. Advising people to apply a cloth or fibrous material to the platen while the machine is running could cause someone to get hurt. I'm not saying that will happen to you but for someone else following along that might be inexperienced if their cloth were to become snagged in the machine it cause them injury or damage their equipment. I take no issue with you showing how you did this in the video as we are all grown ups and we can make our own decisions however I will advise caution and best practice to turn the platen by hand with the machine off. I'm just concerned that if someone does get hurt and tries to blame you it would open you up to a world of misery. Anyway that's all I have to say on it, I don't mean this in any mean way. Your videos are awesome and I get a lot of ideas from you. Cheers.

Nice. Where can I find sandpaper discs with glue? What I do is buy 100x30cm piece of sandpaper and cut discs out, then apply double sided carpet tape. Holds well, nightmare to remove. Most probabbly ditching my disc sander, but if I could find dics for it - might keep it. BTW, what is the rpm of yours?
