So a young guy at a shop I use to work at showed me an easy way to install the clutch. Just install it on the input shaft and mate the transmission. Bolt the clutch through the inspection cover afterwards. All you do is pry on the clutch a bit and the bolts will start. Been doing it like that ever since.
As soon as you said all the bolts were o it but it wasn’t coming, I knew exactly what it was 😂 was fortunate enough on my first cascadia to have noticed it after I pulled the linkage. Great video sir
Nice little job, I really like the way you modified the transmission jack now I have a few ideas on my own that I can put to work as well because the transmission jacks cost a pretty penny good job guys,👋💪👍👍👍👍
Guys, put a digital protractor on the top of the trans and get the angle when you start. Helpful if you have to tip the angle of the jack at all or if you have the trans off the jack. Nice job.
Good job, although in reality it took a lot longer than 10 minutes. On those clutches, I used to tightly stretch several bungee cords from up above down to the clutch assembly. That makes the 150 lb clutch weigh almost nothing, that makes it a lot easier when you're doing your clutch job. Also if you'll measure the top and bottom and each side between engine flywheel housing and Trans.bell housing, to get it perfectly in alignment, then it's real easy to stab the tranny to the engine.
If you have time put the pilot bearing in the freezer for a while. Will drop in. ALWAYS check the fit of the bearing on the input shaft. BTW I did not know about the clutch bolt. Don't see many Freightliners. Hope I remember if I do. Thanks
To make job easier, back truck up onto truck ramps on steering axle , lift rear of frame with OTC air jacks. You will be able to roll under steering axle and fuel tanks . The ramp portion facing front of truck leaves room behind steering tires . Never trust a garbage freight jack! Investing in tools will be beneficial and time saving . Safety is # 1. Strap transmission to jack with 1/4 chain and binder or 2 inch ratchet strap. With a friction jack against a crossmember it will easily push transmission forward ,keeping in mind input shaft turns freely to align splines.
Maybe y’all just didn’t show it but might consider fabbing or buying a rear main seal installer. Unlike the 60 series, 3406, and isx, the dd series engines use a flywheel that rides inside the seal making it a 1 time use seal. At almost 800k miles, that rear main seal is worn out. Other than that suggestion, Good job! That hidden bolt gets folks all the time no matter how many times they read the word “bolt” on the bellhousing... me being one of them lol
I agree with you... pretty much any engine should have the rear main seal replaced while the transmission and clutch are out! They made a huge mistake overlooking that seal.. 😢
Last several I done we pulled and installed them in the bell housing. That way you don't have to deal with lifting the clutch up by hand. Out clutch jack was broken.
Easiest road tractor clutch to replace was a Volvo vn670 with a 9 speed Eaton and Cummins ISX. Absolute worst was a KW T-660 with same transmission and engine. That aftertreatment system was so in the way that you had to remove it to gain access to the transmission cooler lines or to get to the transmission itself. Cascadia kind of right in the middle.
Nice video, like many of mine of late!!! 👀Did you resurface the flywheel or change the rear main seal while you had it that far a part. I once mention if you used bolts to align the clutch disc why not the bell housing? Reminds of days gone by.
@@GuyinWY Hi,nice job!Is that OEM Eaton product?I was looked same cluch with "Made in Mexico' stamped on cover.Somebody has any experience with it?Thank You!
Guys check Francisco amaya has video of clutch replacement.. you guys make it harder to replace it.check Francisco video and Techniques how to do it.put the clutch to trans together before you install the Trans.... I did it by myself
We talked about that, but the way this transmission was set up there was no way to do it. There’s no inspection plate on the bottom that you can go through to bolt the clutch to the flywheel with the trans in place.
@@GuyinWY LOL. I can just picture some engineer sitting at a desk designing that "BOLT" marker on the bell housing. Hard to believe you could miss such obvious instructions!
At around 1:51 mins they use the word "jésus Christ "" is it not a cuss word toward the lord and Christians. Imagine every one using "Mohammed " as a cuss word or Krishna for the Indians, But so far I never heard anyone using Mohammed as a cuss word or anything as a cuss word exceptthe Lord jesus.
I find it really interesting how normally US trucks are far better for doing maintenance that European trucks. But when it comes to changing clutch well we have in a lot easier. Just tilt the cab forward and you have transmission in front of you no need to crawl under it.
That's not called changing a clutch in 10 mins. that's called changing a clutch in 2 days. Where I worked in a dealership you had 5 hrs. to change a clutch. If you had to change the input shaft on the trans. that was extra.
Click bait.... sorta, I changed one before or about one to two a week in a truck shop down in thorne bay alaska and its a bit longer than that if its only say a five speed fuller..... I have lost finger nails and thumb nails and pinched my belly so bad that it looked like a hole was starting in my gut.... don't miss doing them especially the ones where everything is fried harder than the mother in laws eggs. I liked working on trucks but there are a few that I remember that were not fun... like a off highway Hayes with the extra heavy suspension and all other related stuff. Makes other rigs look like tonka toys..... so ten minutes got my attention after doing them by myself a dozenteen times/LOL
It was a ten minute video, because I don’t think anyone would want to watch a multi- hour video of us going “What is still holding this stupid thing...”😆😆
